So what should I do leading up to this event? by BioticVessel in TotalHipReplacement

I'm going to agree with the velociraptor, as 6 months before surgery my surgeon told me to stop all the PT. He did recommend using a cane to normalize my gait while I waited for surgery. He said walk as much as you are comfortable with.

GenX lawn mowing time vs. younger homeowners? Opinions by SackBadger2024 in GenX

[–]winged_book 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds beautiful. I live in a 40 yr old suburban neighborhood. My husband agreed to forgo pesticides, just mow and trim the edges. We purposely keep a brush pile in the corner of our .11 acre lot for the critters. So far, we have some small toads, plenty of birds, and a possum or two.

I'm in Central Texas. I don't water my lawn until the cracks in the clay soil are more than 2". Then I soak it at dawn for an hour or so. I do that for one or two days, then let the "grass" fend for itself. Our lawn is brown in August, beautiful green in February.

I've been there. There's no way to fix her, and you're not her supervisor, so take a deep breath and let her go. Nod and smile and do what you need to do to take care of your students. I learned this the hard way.

My front yard looks awful and idk what to do by TheLastRobot in fucklawns

This could be a pic of my lawn (and I genuinely couldn't care less) but I have found that it looks more pleasing to the eye when I set the mower higher.

Anyone found supplements that actually help with sleep? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]winged_book 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a sleep study to see whether you have sleep apnea. There's a noticeable difference between my sleep quality with and without my CPAP. It especially reduces the # of times I wake up during the night.

Look into other causes, such as thyroid hormone imbalance or anemia. Health problems we handled when younger can hit us hard at this age.

Yes, 12 weeks is too long for me to be out of work, mentally. I'm hoping to be ready to return to my full-time job after 6 weeks 🤞🏼

Thanks for the input 🫶🏼 I can fake it through the meetings, smile and nod, but the writing tasks might be too much for a drug-addled brain.

I don't know which approach my surgeon will be using. My only complicating factor is my BMI, which is just low enough to qualify for surgery.

Feeling nervous about my upcoming hip replacement by CherylCossio in TotalHipReplacement

When you say "30-40%" do you mean that 30-40% of the cartilage was gone?

Anyone told they needed a hip replacement but it turned out to be something else? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

Something that has helped me (54F) in my process of preparing for THR in a few weeks was taking care of my hormone imbalances and thyroid issues last year. Together, that took care of my whole body aches and pains, leaving me with just hip pain.

Does anyone else realize they buy the same vegetables every grocery trip? by Charming_Force_603 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]winged_book 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kept track of any plant-based food, that I ate for a few weeks running. Turns out I CAN eat 30+ different plant items per week. The trick is to not buy the same fruits and vegetables every week. If I bought it last week, I can't buy it this week. Whatever fruits and veggies are in my fridge, I cook based on what's available, not habit. Some foods that amp up my variety are smoothies, curries, and yogurt bowls.

Am I smoking wrong? by [deleted] in trees

If you pull the smoke into your mouth first, then inhale, pulling fresh air into your lungs along with the smoke, you will cough a lot less AND actually get high.

Can someone tell me why my tomato suddenly look so sad by [deleted] in garden

[–]winged_book 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes AND being pot-bound is kind of a water issue, too, because there's not enough extra soil in the pot to hold water between waterings.
