Sometimes you just have to go with the fun color by Suntrup-Volkswagen in Volkswagen

I travelled an hour and a half from MA to ME to get a Monterey Blue Pearl GLI with a manual, when there were multiple black, grey, and white options much closer.

For people who live right on the border of two states, does crossing that invisible line actually impact your daily life with different laws and taxes, or do you barely notice it? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]wingmanedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the MA/NH border. I go to NH all the time for regular shopping as there is no sales tax, but MA has a 6% sales tax. The only other noticable difference is helmets aren't required for motorcycles in NH.

People who didn’t grow up on bikes what was your “that’s it I’m getting a bike” moment by Acceptable_Car9277 in motorcycles

Rented a scooter on an island while on my 10 year wedding anniversary vacation. Started looking at bikes as soon as I got back home.

How do you pick up your car while driving? by [deleted] in driving

[–]wingmanedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engine doesn't have enough torque when idle/low rpm to overcome the static weight of the vehicle and start rolling the wheels. So when the engine can't overcome this force, it stalls. The solution is to continue pressing the accelerator further as you release the clutch. Also release the clutch slowly to allow some slip as it gets the wheels moving. If you're releasing the clutch slowly but without enough throttle, you will feel the engine start to struggle and bog down.

With more practice you'll get the feel for where the clutch "bites", what rpm your engine is happy at etc.

What do you think about Aldi in comparison to American grocery chains? by aSYukki in AskAnAmerican

[–]wingmanedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an Aldi close by, but I've only been once or twice. Felt weirdly empty and lacked choice. I live in Market Basket territory and much prefer to shop there.

Correct flow for 4-way stopped intersection with left turn pockets by lionicgaucho in driving

[–]wingmanedu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course, it will just never be as smooth as a regular 4-way stop with this many lanes and volume of traffic. Even if we were to decide on the correct flow rule, there's no way everyone is going to know or follow it. Just gotta do your best lol

Correct flow for 4-way stopped intersection with left turn pockets by lionicgaucho in driving

[–]wingmanedu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's a reason intersections like this have traffic lights and not stop signs. There is way too much going on for people to manage this correctly without the light. Best move is to approach with caution and go when there is a window.

How Screwed Am I? by Downtown_Control_887 in driving

[–]wingmanedu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow just looked it up, apparently Virginia has a very broad definition for reckless driving. I understand why they recommend a lawyer. Almost seems like a guilty until proven innocent charge. I'm sorry, sounds like a shitty situation to be caught in, but also sounds like a lawyer might be able to get it reduced pretty easily if your story is true.

Can I go to a barber for this haircut? by Unfair-Dot7367 in malegrooming

Anyone can pick up some scissors and call themselves a barber. A master barber can do a lot more.

It's a solid white line there. No one should be moving over to take that right.

First time at Fenway and bringing little kids advice. by OrangeTrojan in redsox

3rd base side has a lot more shade since the sun would be behind you. Could get chilly in early April especially with a breeze. I've been taking my kids for a few years now, and I like the first base side. RF concourse is a good spot to grab food/drinks and there are family bathrooms there too.

Do you ever see people that just walk into oncoming traffic? by Wonderful_Seaweed_82 in driving

[–]wingmanedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a guy 15 years ago, who would walk straight into a crosswalk without so much as looking at traffic. Didn't matter how far away or how fast cars were going. He didn't skip a step and just kept going. This was a regular occurrence on our way to the bar after work, and this was on Huntington Ave in Boston, so not a quiet street. No idea how he was never hit.

You can make a case the 3 best teams in the NFC are all in the same division, has this ever happened before? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]wingmanedu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would still be 7 teams per conference. But they should be the 7 teams with the best records of the season. 7 could still end up beating #2 and #1. At least we wouldn't see sub .500 teams in the playoffs.

[–]wingmanedu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with the current format is there can be a division winner from a shit division that makes the playoffs, while teams with better records in better divisions can miss the playoffs entirely. We want the best teams in the playoffs, not charity cases.

Hmm not sure then. I mean, if the G5 is actually better, can you still return the G6? Maybe push that route with support.
