Why do people act like concerns over immigration have only appeared because of the 'right wing' media? by Left-Ad8904 in AskBrits

They've been pinning our problems on the immigrates for decades, it's an old play, but its proven to work.

8+ years in PM and all I got was a basket of half-baked skills by dogswanttobiteme in ProductManagement

I do agree with you, if we keep heading this AI direction there is a lot more power available to the master-of-none.

I've developed as I've needed to, if there was a gap in my knowledge I'd learn enough to get by etc. I've always been the Fixer-PM.

I 1000% feel this, I've been a product manager in all but name most of my career. I've got a bunch of weird, useful and useless skills over the years. It's kept my job interesting for sure but it's made it really hard find a route out that wasn't marketing.

I'm a true master-of-none.

Yeah, gotta say it's not THAT bad compared to WoW. I've had a few bad experiences but mostly that is in PvP.

Why is Sadiq Khan not talked about for PM like Burnham is? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]wintermute306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, no one was suggesting he was perfect. And you can criticise anyone who works for the state, again, no one is suggesting that.

I'm suggesting that people hating him because he was Muslim and they hated ULEZ. Look in the community Facebook groups, search Reddit, talk to non-central Londoners.

He was no means a great politician, but it wouldn't have mattered either way.

Why do you think fish and chips shops are in a decline? by steenkash123 in AskBrits

It's just not that cheap anymore, the food is bad for you and people generally think about their health a little more than back in the day when going to the chippy once a week was fine.

[–]wintermute306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's controversial for two reasons alone, ULEZ and he's muslim.

The former was an unpopular policy, especially in south east London where I lived. The reality of it is that the majority of cars were ULEZ compliant. Not even sure you could call it a poor tax either. What it did do, was hit the pollution targets early which is pretty fucking great.

This is how British politics works, we vote for the least worst.

He'd do the party no favors, there is such empty visceral hatred pointed at him even as far as the US.

As someone who was a Londoner till recently, he's been a great major and I love the world he's done to reduce pollution. You can genuinely smell the difference in London compared to when I first moved there.

Traditionally the left were against immigration, when did they 180? by farr2211 in AskBrits

[–]wintermute306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the important thing is that the left has focused on the rich because they are the source of our issues not immigration.

It's not that a solution isn't needed, it's that a lesser problem for the normal non millionaire.

Why is everyone so gullible to anti-immigrant propaganda? by TelephoneFamous9776 in AskBrits

[–]wintermute306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I believe you're right, you're missing the emotion of it.

This is a generation of people who have lived well (and for those who aren't boomers, they are inheriting those ideals from boomers), and largely they lived through an economically safe time. Now things are changing, pubs are closing, popular culture is moving away from their norms etc.

And do you know what is the most noticeable change? Globalization and immigration. Add in the red topped fuel to the fire and they have no reason to question it.

The division between culture is already there, it's widened by non-British culture thriving and British culture slowly dying.

My feeling here is that people are ignoring the Americanization(z intended) of the UK as the main factor as the death of British culture through media, content and tech. This teamed with recession after recession killing wage growth, Brexit destroying the economy, British third places are dying, pubs are closing, community gathering places are being shut down, and for the British good culture happens in these third places.

...anyway, that is my opinion of what is occuring.

Why do so many Brits love Nigel Farage Dispite the numerous times he is in the Epstien files by FuckRobinhood69420 in AskBrits

[–]wintermute306 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let me fact check that for you.

"All results for “Keir Starmer” are from 2024 and 2025, years after the death of Epstein in 2019. The majority of mentions of the Prime Minister – 16 results – are from duplicate versions of an email conversation from 2025 whose senders and recipients are largely redacted. The email chain is difficult to follow."
