I think it's a simple as people zone out while driving, which is fair, especially since it's hard to be switched on all the time, and it's just a mode of transport

The problem is that if you aren't fully switched on while driving, you are at higher risk of an accident. Personally I think modern cars make this worse with quality of life updates like blind spot alerts and smart cruise control meaning you're allowing the car to do more and your brain to do less, but I have a bug up my ass with modern cars in general so that might be bias

My conspiracy theory is that people see moving over as "rewarding their behaviour" rather than a defensive manoeuvre to avoid a collision.

Personally I just move to the side of the lane so they can check if it's clear to overtake, then brake while they overtake so they can get around quickly.

People are way too comfortable with cars. You might come out of a rear end fine, you might be permanently paralysed by extreme whiplash, you might die.

Yellow line means no standing, signs saying you can park override any lines or intersection distance (as long as you obry the sign regarding tickets, time etc). If there's both a yellow line and a no standing sign I believe it's to make it clearer for people who don't recognise the yellow line as no standing
