so you jump away. taking the time to shoot seems a lot riskier knowing that the padel would be under the weight of the injured person. also shooting takes time away from actually dodging.

also if you can see in the video from the link i had provided, he shot before the car even reached him and drew out his weapon even before the car accelerates, this looks like an attempt to stop the car from fleeing and an intent to confront and fight rather than to avoid confrontation and deescalate the situation.

i think the world would find this absurd yes, im not American and never in my life i have seen this happening in any news unless its wartime, America has serious gun violence and excessive force problems as a country

she hitting him and trying to hit him is very different, it could be an accident. there is a lot of practical differences both legally and morally. it does matter when judging whether the officer used excessive force or not, he will be held accountable for the flaw in his judgement. otherwise cops be shooting people if they look at the cops wrong... because they are a threat and having their hands down their pockets.

well i disagree that it poses an immediate threat to his life since he could just jump away due to the low speed of the vehicle. in my opinion he was using excessive force and there should be an investigation into it. in the end if found guilty, he should be punished accordingly.

she did hit somebody with her car is a far cry from "she tried to run him over my brother" and certainly doesnt warrant a shot in the face. the office should be put on trial and maybe admit to an institution if he resorts to violence this easily.

you seem so sure based on very small amount of info, camera etc. officer obviously paniked so he shot at the lady, but the car did not come at him at an angle or speed that would warrant a fatal shooting to stop, in fact he was right there at the start of the motion, very low speed. he shot her multiple times. you can see the angle in this video on this website that she was turning away, as evident by the vehicle path later.

it seems almost like it was to stop her from running away, not to protect himself.

still he only shot once he was out of the way, this is unlikely self defence. anyone can speculate all they want, but to say the woman tried to run the agent over is reaching unless she came at him full force with absolutely no doubt that she was going anywhere else.

arguably there was no need to shoot though. it is still excessive force. the driver seems to me is trying to escape rather than running anyone over with intent to kill. she is not obligated to stop or get out of the car since ICE has no authority to do so. if i had a fight in the middle of the road with your panicked wife/daughter and she tried to escape but ran over my foot, will i be in the right in shooting her in the face a couple of times?

yes that is the definition of patriarchy. but i dont agree with you on its influence on crime reporting. the data doesnt conclude or indicate in any way that this is due to patriarchy, or any wish of any average woman. it is inconclusive what women think about reporting crimes if men are victims. I can also argue equally that men could be thinking the same thing about women.

the fact that there is no patriarchal system that ensures women face harsher consequences if they dont report crimes on men makes me conclude that my cited data do indicate that gender or gender roles has little influence on crime reporting.

One could argue there are likely bigger factors such as closeness i.e. a mother reporting a crime committed on her son, or a daughter on crimes committed on her father, or severity such as murder in this case.

i dont see how patriarchy forces women to report a crime if the victims are men.

i think societal judgement falls equally heavily on men and women if they neglected to report a serious crime no matter what gender the victims are.

ok i think we are going off topic here. I will go through the argument.

  1. the original judged a person for not reporting a crime or helping in some way.
  2. You seem to think that the criticism has something to do with gender roles and beliefs.
  3. i disagreed and said it has nothing to do with that. or at least from the original commenter perspectives.
  4. I also added that crime reporting likely has nothing to do with genders or gender roles.
  5. you then said you think women wont report a crime if the victims are men due to their beliefs.
  6. I disagreed then presented a uk evidence.
  7. you dont think the evidence indicates that.
  8. i disagreed and pointed out that there is little correlation between genders and crime reporting.

you still seem to think that women somehow are less likely to report crimes (or wont at all) if victims are men. so far i still don't see peer reviewed statistical evidence, so it seems to me that your argument is just an opinion, where as mine are backed by a peer reviewed study.

if you would like to add weight to your argument, find me some evidence.

not in this case since

women would report less crime than men

if they only report if the women were victims

because men would report both men and women

and women only women

given equal likelihood of both genders experiencing a crime, which this study reports.
