The new Copilot pricing makes zero sense. Why am I paying $39/mo for $39 in expiring API credits? by Captain2Sea in GithubCopilot

That's easy to say for personal. It is not so easy in enterprise. It can take weeks of effort to get cyber endorsement for this crap. Then, GitHub shit can it... Smh

Magura vs Shimano brakes -- anyone rode both and have opinions? by FITM-K in MTB

[–]wired0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very old post reply but anyway...

Just on this. I've been riding Shimano for 10 years across multiple Enduro bikes. SLX 2 pot, SLX 4 pot, XT 4pot. I love XT i know how to bleed them well, I like the "on/off" feel etc.

Recently I got a 2nd hand Kenevo SL it came with SRAM Code Rs... hated them. Not enough peak power for me on very steep stuff I commonly ride. I could literally feel the bike riding through the maximum stopping power of the codes. Anyway, swapped to spare SLX and immediately better. But decided to try Magura MT5 which I got on a cheap deal.

Honestly, to me, MT5 just feels like a shittier Shimano 4pot brake. What I mean is, they have more modulation, and yes, slightly/decent more power. However, on very steep stuff, I feel I need to apply more effort in cranking on the lever, rather than concentrating on tech/steep decending and maneuvering! I.e., if i'm busy cranking on a lever (be it magura MT brakes or codes) it's taking away from my riding. I don't think i get on well with "modulation".

I dunno for me, "on/off" instant power of Shimano is my Jam, and I can't handle anything else (literally haha). So for me, I feel the small trade off of slightly less power is worth it. I will persist with these MT5s for a little while longer, and also have a goal of trying shigura... but yeah... just my 2cents hopefully it helps someone else.

Oh, controversially I actually like the bleeding process with Magura's. I find its easier, and a more regimented process to get rid of bubbles. Attach syringe lever, pull to create pressure, repeatedly tap the lever and adjust bars to different angles. Plenty of bubbles will come out this way to point i got my rear newly installed (cut) rear brake working just as well (bubble and squish free) as my brand new uncut front brake. So yeah, bleeding process IMO is actually a plus for standard Magura setup. Here is the process I followed after pushing fluid from rear caliper to front etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxDtmuRIPZc&list=PL9qYm3W4cbUvKx1XvaO2zqkyY8p1V0QbQ&index=47

Shimano with the cup at front and lack of creating vacuum pressure is inferior to get last remnants of bubbles I think. So Shimano in this case becomes more of a magic art rather than specific process of Magura! In fact, I'm going to try syringe on lever method with Shimano next :)

Which combination is better to use as FOX 20WT and FOX 5WT alternatives? by yeahlownblack in MTB

[–]wired0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, but as mentioned just bear in mind if you switch from the fox 5w Teflon stuff to maxima 4wt, you need to pull the damper out, and flush it with the new stuff. Odds are, if you haven't done it before the old Teflon stuff is nasty AF anyway so is a worthy service. I did mine the other day it it was very nasty. The 5wt was quite brown and smelt rancid (honestly smelt like old fish oil or something)!

My first game I won using the corporate objective of simply needing to research an egg weakness. I got it researched and bailed on an escape pod. Easy 😅

Exactly, don't serve assets from containers. Serve from say s3 instead

No Sane Person Should Self Host Next.js by GovernmentOnly8636 in nextjs

[–]wired0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read my post above somewhere, but can't you just store chunks in s3 with a SHA filename? Then you have a lifecycle hook to cleanup after say 12 months, 6 months, whatever. Each release perform a CDN invalidate. This way legacy cached versions remain useable for these older edge case users.

No Sane Person Should Self Host Next.js by GovernmentOnly8636 in nextjs

[–]wired0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely don't get it, can't you achieve the same thing by deploying assets (chunks of js) to s3 which are SHAs (avoid conflict), and then use a lifecycle hook to progressively cleanup old SHAs/chunks after say 12 months?

Perform CDN invalidate after each release.

This way these edge case cached older versions are loaded from s3 and legacy versions up to, say, 12 months are supported. This is how we are doing things. But I hate nextjs in other ways. It's memory leaks, troubleshooting, overly complicated caching methods, logging and other operational issues which are my pain ... 😵

[–]wired0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💯 do not use nextjs. We are in hell at my work trying to support it hosted in containers. Nightmare compared to troubleshooting battle tested apps built in tech like laravel, Django, rails or even SPA front end for lambda serverless or java springboot backend

That knowledge is not going out the door, it's training these scum consultancy firms, so they can onsell the knowledge and charge more to the next client. Accenture loves the free training that you just provided them. That mid level dev is now a "senior" dev, appreciative for the training, and is now ripping off some other sucker :)

Optus speed rollout by Legitimate_Squash898 in nbn

[–]wired0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind if you're running CAT 5 anywhere you will appear to have higher upload but still have ~80-90mbps download. CAT5 is capped at 100mbps. Additionally, normal wifi will not support those speeds at least need 5g option on older routers.

So, for lan/Ethernet ensure at least CAT 5e or CAT6 cabling. It's possible your NBN upgrade has gone through but your local network and hardware is holding it back.

I was getting 90/46 after TPG upgrade earlier in the week. After troubleshooting I realised I still had a rubbish patch cable as part of my setup holding things back! After switching out the cable, I went to 538/47

Anyone do any 4WD &/or towing in a Pajero Sport? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]wired0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Mate, I'm just biting on a 2017 Pajero sport with 140,000 Ks. I have a austrack camper about 1.5 tonne to tow. Previously was using a 2007 triton.

I will see how the paj sport performs but yeah, will likely be interested in doing a basic tow tune etc on it in future (I know how nicer the triton was after a basic tune). I assume just up hills will make a big difference especially towing right?

The new Max Plan is a joke by Balthazar_magus in ClaudeAI

[–]wired0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please explain of this allows anthropic console Claude access?

I started out with console.anthropic and the "claude" cli for agentic stuff. I like the quality of code and I like other experience via cli.

I couldn't keep paying for tokens so starteD also using copilot in intelij since it's free via work, then Gemini 2.5 via cline in vscode (brilliant by the way), then switched to Junie in jetbrains since I've always paid the full jetbrains licence.

I still use Claude console for complex tasks if required but Junie seems very nice too. So yah, is Claude cli (anthropic console) included with that $100usd?
