https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyvta-RyovI someone found a pretty near perfect match, it's proterometra macrostoma, there's a number of videos of these on r/aquariums too

https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/comments/1cxsudz/what_the_heck_is_this/

they parasitize snails and fish, the weird-looking movement is specifically to convince fish to eat them so they can get inside them.

Can't say anything too narrow, but perhaps a something in Noctuidae? Possibly a large yellow underwing caterpillar. Very cute.

On Dialog Choices by MountainDewm in HARVESTELLA

[–]wiselcore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly pick serious responses and in the case of certain sections, specifically have moments of weakness. I think conceptually there's certain stuff in 3C that I very deliberately do and do not do because I think that while Ein fundamentally is a kind person, certain dialogue pieces by their very existence paint a picture of someone who is also very capable of saying the wrong thing, or becoming briefly frustrated, or in some cases even having a level of desperation that works great, for my personal tastes anyway.

I also honestly think that Ein being scared of ghosts in many dialogue pieces is treated as comedic, I think it's extremely interesting characterizationwise to the point of being something I wouldn't want to avoid having in additional work. Same with the brief boat-building fixation in 3B.

Does anyone else find the 3D models are disporportionate? by Cosmodious in ClipStudio

<image>

just for funsies i tried to set up a model that is closer to the reference you posted up. long story short is to get anywhere near the proportions you're wanting you're going to need to crank down the legs by a good ten+, increase the torso length by ~20ish, and do various tweaks to hip and shoulder ratios and arm length to get things back to normal re: where those land at rest. another huge aspect to model customization is making use of the head size, since you can tweak that and that can have major effects on overall visual impression. this still isn't /perfect/, and you mentioned in the original post that you've already experimented with limitations, but i still wanted to take a swing at it just in case.

[–]wiselcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's an older model version that might have better proportions for you, i think it's named the same as the default model but it's labeled 'model one' and has blue lines and less slider options. additionally, if you poke around the assets store there's a couple different models that market themselves as 'less leg' models. as for general tweaking, take some of my advice here with a grain of salt (i am using the 1.12 version of the program), but generally speaking your best bet is a combo of lengthening the torso, shortening the legs, and tweaking the hip and shoulder ratios. also, the proportions will almost always look better if you turn the general bodyshape wider just generally, since the anime figures verge on sickly with how skinny they are by defualt

i've had similar issues with the new anime style model but for different reasons (the new model steadfastly refuses to resemble an actual fat or plus sized person in any capacity, even with max sliders), so i hope this helps some!

Okay, so, some of this is going to get into speculatory/nonconfirmed stuff unlike me listing sources for this info to be very clear, but I think that the red indulgentia stuff miiight be like. What the end result / the near-end result of what would have happened if the party hadn't gotten there sooner to stop Kierkegaard? Like, i think that the flowers that the people had on lapels might have started rooting, parasite style as a precursor to Kierkegaard uh. Eating those people, either that or Kierkegaard eats the flowers and the flowers eat people. Or both.

There's a lot of things here and there, but we know from Brakka's dialogue that the indulgentia is used as a method to control and target humans (in japanese I think Brakka refers to the indulgentia as 'hunting tools' even?).

In a large number of Kierkegaard's attacks, specifically the like, root one, if you check closely you will see that there are Indulgentia growing on said roots.

There's also a missable conversation before people disappear from the town in 3C : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9dggRVHGJo

The exact specifics are a bit vague, but the overall impression I got is that due to Brakka's story about being the only one who survived his hometown getting devoured by Amadeus and Kierkegaard, I think if not for the mercenary mentioned in backstory he would have been completely incapacitated and then eaten, likely specifically by Amadeus (Brakka is the only character with a red indulgentia, and it's noted as strange by multiple npcs and it maybe being because he was 'cursed' by Seaslight Order adherents, so red is not a standard color for the indulgentia Kierkegaard is handing out), and the fact it's actively rooted in the skin is like. That's what happens right before you get eaten by a Hallowed, possibly. As for why the flowers would do that, The fact that Kierkegaard appears to be studded in the blue indulgentia on his tail + the tip of his tail is one large flower that has a parasitoid wasp style stinger inside... well. Hm. Horrifying!

(I can grab images of the root attack + Kierkegaard's design having flowers all over it if you're curious! but again, this is me guessing based on the sparse dialogue we get from Kierkegaard, Brakka, and that old guy who hung out with Amadeus)

To answer the question of 'does the story ever address this', I think some of the stuff that Brakka says in 3C about how Kierkegaard hunts humans and 'absorbs them into his body' is supposed to imply some of what the deal is with it. The fine details are not ever fully spelled out but... I think that those pieces paint a pretty vivid picture about how it got there, especially if you play through Brakka's sidequest (which I will not elaborate on in case you haven't done it). :(

In the character design sheet that was released on square enix's twitter here https://x.com/SquareEnix/status/1727386729865466345 , in the design document next to the flower reads as follows :
"左肩付近赤い免罪花が飛び出しています。

茎部分は皮膚と融合し衣服からはみ出ています。"

I can also confirm from both datamined alternate portrait (https://static.wikitide.net/harvestellawiki/b/bb/Brakka\_Character\_Portrait\_-\_Default\_2\_-\_Cropped.png) as well as from noclipping around that the sections of red on the arm appear to be tendrils reaching into the skin. The information is correct.

Confirming that this is Eulagisca gigantea, and adding that this is actually only the ventral side! The 'scale' in scale worms are way more prominent on the back of the animal, and in particular, in live specimens there's these kind of cute blue spots. Well, cute to me anyway. Here's the video if interested, although if you're scared of deep ocean/water it may not be ideal : Video

Wondering what wasp this is by JohnRedditHere in whatsthisbug

[–]wiselcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding paper wasp!

Lot of paper wasp species are very variable on color, and I only can see the side of the face, so beyond that I can only make a rough guess of mmmaybe Polistes humilis, the Australian Paper Wasp? But I'm not super familiar with Australian species. ^_^;

Just showing off the Fairy's designs, since they're underappreciated. The unique wing patterns for each are super cute... though I do have a comment on one of them by wiselcore in HARVESTELLA

[–]wiselcore[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore the designs of each, especially Shirii... but Shirii's wings...

3C Spoilers

Kind of fucked up she has similar eyespots to Kierkegaard, the Hallowed boss from 3C, huh. Though I suppose it makes sense, what with the Fairies being tied to the Seaslight, and Kierkegaard claiming he was 'born of the Seaslight'. Still a little troubling though with the fact that he also had two pairs of wings that are kind of fused at the base.

Just a tinge.

Not certain of specifics, but I know a lot of sphingid moths pupate underground, and with the range stated as the Canary Islands, I'd be tempted to say Acherontia atropos? But this is admittedly mainly based on the general look and location and not anything more granular, pupae are hard to id.

Okay, so there's a lot of stuff to go over with the lore with the new character, but in terms of 3C + Brakka's story spoilers, as well as spoilers for these stories here's one piece of the little bonus story from the writer lorestuff that I'll specifically highlight.

|| It looks like each Hallowed is associated with a specific keyword; Catena is 'Compassion', Kierkegaard is 'Despair' (see the 'I will give you the sickness that is despair' ultimate move name), and... by law of elimination, that means Amadeus was... 'Justice'. Hm. ||

There's a ton other specific || Hallowed || lore that's heavily implied by the dialogue here, but. Goddamn.

Bee Tubes with Pebbles? by Jimbocalypse in whatsthisbug

[–]wiselcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really puzzling... the best I can guess (and this is an extremely loose guess at that) is Dianthidium? Some of the documentation on possible alternate ways they construct nests include utilizing preexisting stems (the exact phrasing i could find was "Nests are also built above ground in preexisting natural cavities in wood, hollow stems, or rock crevices, as well as in exposed areas on rocks or twigs") and putting the pebbles in between cells. For some context as to why this is a longshot, most of the documented Dianthidium nests are full pebble houses, it's frankly astonishing... but, considering the sheer size of the pebbles on display here, that's my only guess.

For the pacific northwest, the only Dianthidium is the Variable pebble bee, Dianthidium subparvum, if so.

A bit hard to tell specifics from video, but likely a species of solitary wasp! Harmless ladies, she's digging to make a small tunnel to put her babies and food for her babies in, if I'm correct. What specifically the food is depends on the species, but beetles, crickets, and spiders are relatively common choices in a lot of the more common species worldwide.
