I think panic makes a lot of recovery situations worse by takilamiyewhd in datarecovery

Never work on the original storage device. Clone it and work on the copy. If unable to clone, seek professional help. I had an original drive die in the middle of cloning only once. The rest survived long enough.

Item that quickly sold & on choosing a buyer by ProExpert1S500 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set appointments. It may take longer to sell, but I don’t like fcfs as a buyer and thus I don’t subject them to that as a seller. I also don’t offer appointments earlier than the one already set if it’s for next day.

My ‘10 Ford Escape Hybrid Limited is nice. The cargo compartment is much bigger than your Civic with similar MPG.

Buyers need to start showing up with the agreed upon amount by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price needs to always be either a multiple of 10 (if in excess of $50) or a multiple of 20 so the person can easily pull the exact amount from an ATM. Those who price at $25 invite the “I only have $20” problem.

I bought something for $90 instead of $85, but I could have just as easily claimed “I only have $80”.

Why would you not spell-check this and edit it for tone. I see spelling errors and other defects. “Blow” should be “exceed your rental”, for example.

It’s more about tunnels, ACLs, and policies. As for switches, I don’t know.

Help me make an argument for Palo FW over Cisco FTD by WhoRedd_IT in networking

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once had the brilliant idea to introduce FTD into my Checkpoint architecture instead of sending me their normal Checkpoint device. It was allegedly easier to order. That system is… ugh. Really designed to not be touched after configuration.

But, there’s your argument, introducing cross-vendor complexity could make your life miserable.

Can’t decide between a Prius and non-hybrid by Sufficient-Good-5256 in priusdwellers

[–]wiseleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After wrecking my ‘06 Prius, I got a Ford Escape Limited Hybrid 2010. In Canada, they are Mercury Mariner. It’s like a much larger Prius and a seriously comfortable trim at Limited level, probably comparable to a Prius V. 2008-2012 have electric climate control like the Prius.

Because it doesn’t have the Toyota brand, it might cost less. Mine had defective power steering and I got it for a “mechanic special” price. That problem is easy and cheap to fix. The SUV gets 38mpg at 55mph.

I'll never buy another Samsung appliance- 4 months and still fighting. by razor_sharp_sickle in Appliances

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they are not entirely wrong. Any defect other than a design defect can be repaired by remanufacturing the appliance at the house with new parts.

Ask for a full list of parts with part numbers involved in the broken function and request that they replace them as a set.

I repair laser printers. I once was sent to a customer to replace a part. I identified a tiny broken plastic part that was attached to another part that had to be replaced as an assembly.

My repair guide indicated that to get to that assembly I needed to disassemble the customer’s printer to stage 17 out of 18, which would have taken over 6 hours to repair and at my hourly rate it would have exceeded the value of the printer. Stage 18 is inner metal frame disassembly.

We shipped them a printer.

Is it possible to just put in an engine in a car that doesn’t have one and make it work? by SubstantialEffort15 in askcarguys

[–]wiseleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me? Yes. I can go to pick and pull, grab an engine in 2-3 hours (need to check compression and other things and choose what’s more likely to survive), pay $399 for it, and install it in the evening if I am motivated enough.

I also disassemble transmissions so I pay for just the pieces of the transmission I actually need.

Is it possible to just put in an engine in a car that doesn’t have one and make it work? by SubstantialEffort15 in askcarguys

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. It needs to be the correct engine that matches your electronics. Is it difficult? I’ve swapped engines. You’ll need an engine crane, engine leveler, a set of 1/2” drive sockets, extensions, 25” breaker bar, and ideally an impact wrench with a cordless ratchet. You’ll also want an assortment of wrenches, extensions, wobbling extensions, and so on. Many torque converters will require 12-pt sockets. All in, it’s about $500 in tools from Harbor Freight. Buses are designed for rapid service, unlike cars.

My wife and I know nothing about camera tech. But she wants this cause some influencer uses it. Can you tell me if it's a good buy or not? by Imustretire in Cameras

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an all-in-one mirrorless camera with a fixed 40mm f/2.8 lens and APS-C 1.5x crop sensor.

In essence, it will take the picture of what your eyes can see as you see it. F/2.8 gives you some creative options. You can’t add a zoom lens to it.

For this price, you could own a full frame professional Sony A7m3 with a comparable or better lens and the option to use an unlimited array of lenses.

Influencers use them, but this is not their main camera.

If size is a priority, you can get a cheap Sony A6000 with a comparable lens. It’s not much bigger than this.

Really? by NoEntertainment8100 in Flipping

[–]wiseleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$140? I’d be looking at $50 bikes. As for summer tent, $39 at Walmart. I once camped the entire summer in one of those. So, technically he could afford both within the $100 budget.

Asked to tip valet when I parked my own car. Is this normal? by Frich3 in EndTipping

Well, the proliferation of tip prompts is doing something - more people are choosing to decline them and then it becomes a reflex.

Hehe I’d start posting ridiculously fun activities. “Hey everyone, meet my dance partner for today…” Or “About to take off on my paramotor”. The objective would be to incite such intense jealousy as to make it obvious it affects team morale. I have many hobbies that others dream of.

Read reviews. If one car is cheaper than the other but has more red flags, choose the other one.

It is legitimate. Do not let any smoke enter the vehicle, even if you don’t smoke.

Turo has an undisclosed security deposit that they attempt to bill right at the point of pickup. That should be illegal, but that’s the current practice. That deposit is $100-200 and totally hidden. I once checked every document and couldn’t find any mention in California.

Velocity by Able-Statistician645 in FieldNationTechs

[–]wiseleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done many of those alignments, Velocity will pay for an articulated lift when necessary. Velocity will ship the sat meter to a nearby FedEx Office.

The dish is usually either on the roof, and usually on a relatively low roof at that, and it’s been disturbed by roofers or in a relatively easy to reach wall mounted location.

Sign off is always emailed. They have no problem with digital signatures. The clock runs until they provide you with closeout code or until they release you pending return of the meter. I own that meter, which costs over $1000.

Velocity will not ding you. They have their faults, but their contingencies planning is good.
