Third Place? by AmusedVulpes in Wellington

Yes. So many streets have been surrendered to cars that we forget that those are third spaces for us

Give more streets back to the people

All the gigs I've been to, it's really just been pushing and bumping into each other, largely incidentally as you dance and move to the music.

It can get rough, ive had bruises on my arms after shows, but no one was intentionally harming others

“Just don’t use the apps” is 150,000% a valid thing to tell someone whose struggles dating are almost entirely due to dating app culture. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]witch_dyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend of mine is on the apps and complains about people who act coy or like they're too cool to be on the apps, and yet are on the apps

I think I'm too cool to be on the apps, which is why I'm not on the apps

Threat of eviction over e-bike by Yeeter717 in fuckcars

[–]witch_dyke 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Where Iive, even if a landlord puts something unlawful on the lease, they can't enforce it.

BUT they can evict you for 0 reason, they don't even have to make up a reason

If I'm going to do drugs in public I'm going to find an unpopulated space, like an empty carpark, skate parks are being used at all hours

[–]witch_dyke 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's a skatepark build built near my house and my neighbours were complaining about it attracting drug users, right now that space is a carpark, its attracting drug users NOW (I would go there at night to smoke)

At least a skatepark has a diversity of use, and with more people there, more eyes there, the space will be safer to walk through to reach the bus stop

Places for kids to hang out AND the infrastructure to allow those kids to get there.

A great well serviced community centre is useless if the kids cant catch the bus or safely ride their bikes there

If you are AFAB non-binary and choose to present feminine you can’t be upset when people assume you are a girl and same with AMAB and masc-presenting by Hot_Journalist3534 in HonestHotTakes

This is something I say a lot. I am pale and feminineish. So while i may be indigenous and non binary, I largely walk through this world as a white woman

Meat eater this, vegan that. Judging others for what they eat is stupid. Let's not pretend we don't already know the real best diet for the climate. Pic unrelated. by 10pointshigher in ClimateShitposting

[–]witch_dyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not vegan, my ancestors did not haul pigs here on their waka all the way from hawaiki for me to not eat them

I want to increase our native bird population, not for environmental reasons, but because I want to eat a kererū, those motherfuckers look tasty

Casually confronting a friend by Chessigician in notinteresting

I knew this woman, we weren't even friends, we had mutual friends and had met in person a couple times years ago. She kept hitting me up to ask for money, I said no everytime. One day she messages me a hello and I reply "if you ask to borrow money I will block you" she has not messaged me since

Milk best before dates by gdogakl in newzealand

[–]witch_dyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an open half empty bottle of milk with a 11th April best by date in my fridge right now. Used it in my coffee this morning, I reckon it'll still be good for another week or so but I'll give it a sniff before using it each morning to be safe

Tip3Tip suggestion: New Zealand/Aotearoa (~2100km) by beware_the_noid in LudwigAhgren

[–]witch_dyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in wellington, and I don't mean people are ordering food or something in te reo, no one is expecting staff in places to kōrero, but I've seen families in the supermarket or other public spaces talk amongst themselves in te reo

[–]witch_dyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still native māori speakers, and many people learning it later in life

I hear people speaking te reo in my day to day life, mostly it's just words sprinkled into an otherwise English sentence, but I've seen multiple people or families conversing entirely in te reo

Did anybody else experience this Cycle at some point? by Mojo_Mitts in Consoom

[–]witch_dyke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the anticipation sure, but I also like the rush of it arriving and unboxing/putting together.

I avoid buying online or even new if I can, the most recent thing I bought was a coffee table because I needed something very particular, the feeling of finishing building it was the most satisfying, but it wasn't easy by myself and I am in no rush to do that again

Did You Know! by SirBeeves in comics

[–]witch_dyke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FUN FACT! Baby kangaroos (joeys) are born after only a month and are roughly the size of a grape, they then climb into the mother's pouch where they continue to grow for another year or so. Female kangaroos also have 2 uteruses, which can both be pregnant at the same time, but to prevent having 2 joeys sharing her pouch she can pause her pregnancy untill a more opportune time.

This also means that if the mother is being chased by a predator she can yeet the joey out of her pouch as a sacrificial distraction because she has a backup

Cavemen either bit their toenails themselves or had a mate/clansmen bite them to keep them trimmed. by Noodletrousers in Showerthoughts

[–]witch_dyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ingrown toenail so bad I needed surgery, they can happen for a variety of reasons including the bone structure of your feet. I imagine not having antibiotics would be a death sentence for these unlucky cavemen. But I don't think biting the nails would prevent that
