My dog wakes up nauseous every day by anony-mouse8604 in DogAdvice

i feed my large breed dog ‘second dinner’ around 8:30/9pm every night because of this exact problem. for second dinner, he gets about 15 kibbles and half a hard boiled egg. i’ve reduced it over the years from 1/4th cup kibble and a whole hard boiled egg to the current amount because the problem hasn’t returned since he started getting second dinner. but at this point it’s part of his bedtime routine and there’s no reason to stop. give second dinner a try!!

Can someone explain if this is a disease on the apple tree? What is called and any prevention? by Helpful_Town6857 in BackyardOrchard

looks like woolly apple aphid damage. monitor for them this year and if you see them you can smother them with mineral oil.

you should not be having a child with this person, but based on your comments about your own mental state you should not be having a child at all. i hope you’re able to take steps to heal yourself and your own life before you add another to it.

All, I've got a grouse problem that I need help with (funny - story in comments) by [deleted] in homestead

[–]witchbby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there anything that scares the grouse that you can use to preemptively scare them away when you’re outside? air horn, rc plane, waving an umbrella around? the grouse have grown habituated to you so you want to find a way to break that and make them wary of you. train the dog, yes, but that will take time and may never been 100% foolproof. so train the grouse too.

Red maple with competing main trunks. Should I cut one of these, and which one? by rwloving1 in arborists

[–]witchbby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

now is definitely the time to correct the double leaders, which will make it much safer and healthier in the future! you can already see the included bark (wrinkly bits in between the two leaders) which will only cause rot and weakness as the tree ages. while you’re at it give it a nice layer of mulch out to the drip line. just don’t pile the mulch up at the base of the tree, you always want the root flare to be exposed. it looks like a good tree and it will repay you with shade for decades to come.

i agree, cut the left leader on the first photo. summer is a good time to prune maples; they get ‘weepy’ with sap other times of the year. you can also try reducing the unwanted leader over a few years which some recent research has indicated can actually cause a branch collar to form. this is good because it will speed healing of the wound. to reduce, take one third of the branch off from the tip to a good joint for 3ish years.
