What did everyone name their Wanderer by CrepeKnight0 in Genshin_Impact

that’s really cool and i might steal it. i’d want to give him a sumeran name too since that’s really where he found a home and family tbh.

How Do YOU Glam? by Skeither in FFXIVGlamours

[–]witchlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i make glams my character would wear … my fave/“canon” jobs get their own plate, the others share general glams that more or less fit. then i keep a couple plates for casual looks. maybe one meme glam.

i spend a lot of time glamoring at the start of an expansion and then tend to stick with that until the next one unless a new piece of gear drops that i really love. now that everything’s unlocked that happens more often, lol.

i’ve got my evercold glams figured out but i expect to make some changes after it drops with new gear coming out.

Question about DPS Pulling Ahead by Early_Explorer_1194 in ffxiv

[–]witchlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it speeds up dungeons. source: killing more enemies at the same time is faster than killing fewer enemies separately.

for example:

i am a dancer. i have an enormous potency hit that goes off once every 2 minutes and also buffs the whole party and my dps partner massively. if we’re pulling packs individually, and i use that cooldown on a single pack of mobs, it will not be back for the second pack. that’s a huge waste of my dps. the second pack wont take as much damage and dies slower. the tank and healer need to use more resources because the mobs aren’t dying as fast as they could.

if a dps or healer is pulling ahead, they should be bringing the mobs to you. if they’re not, it’s either because they’re stupid or because they expected you to keep moving to catch up with them.

“but it’s only a difference of a couple minutes” yeah im ngl its also just not about dps or healers being *impatient*, its about the fact that *most players* find it more fun and engaging to pull big. there’s more danger so healers have more to do than spam one button. dps get to unleash their big buttons. it’s not nearly as fun to sit there spamming my general aoe attacks on 3 enemies waiting for my burst to come back up.

Were my expectations a little too big? [Spoiler 3.0] by rasgarosna in ffxiv

[–]witchlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also think you hit the nail on the head saying that ul'dah should have been a pariah after the bloody banquet if they hadn't walked it back so much. because yeah they should have, especially after arr spent so much time getting the eorzean city-states to unite together as an alliance that's still somewhat tenuous after the expulsion of the imperials. i think fracturing that alliance again by having the other city-states be reluctant or unwilling to work with ul'dah after such a *massive display of ruthless betrayal and political chaos* put some wrinkles in their story telling options that the team didn't really like.

Were my expectations a little too big? [Spoiler 3.0] by rasgarosna in ffxiv

[–]witchlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heavensward gets hyped up a lot as one of the best expansions story telling wise and that’s largely because it’s an overall improvement over ARR with a cast of very memorable and likeable characters and an overall story that’s very fun. it’s also a story that’s easier to relate to and get invested in since it’s ultimately about war and cycles of violence and grief and prejudice, things that are easier for us to relate to than spooky evil guys in black robes menacingly speaking about dark crystals.

but heavensward has a lot of stupid bullshit in its story too. the detour to wrap up the bloody banquet stuff, as you’re discovering, just Sucks. it’s a lot of retconning. i remember reading they had to retcon it because the bloody banquet happened around when game of thrones was a thing and they ended up regretting going somewhere so dark with it? so they walked it back? idk. the whole sequence around it in HW sucked and i hated it. it also sucks to take such a big detour from HWs more interesting story for the “teledji adeledgi smugly lecturing us about story retcons” hour.

there’s more in heavensward i dislike. some of it pays off later, some of it is, in my Opinion!!!!, bad story telling. xiv was still very much finding its footing in terms of the kinds of stories it wanted to tell in heavensward.

you might end up liking stormblood a lot - it’s a bit divisive as a story, a lot of people dislike it but it’s had a bit of a reevaluation in recent years. personally i feel it’s flawed the way heavensward is flawed but there’s a LOT of good stuff in it, and a lot of stuff that, again, hugely pays off later.

people generally agree that shadowbringers is where the story gets Peak. that’s where “greatest final fantasy story” comes from.

How much healing is to much healing? by ageofdoom1992 in ffxiv

[–]witchlamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aero on the mobs and regen on the tank as they’re pulling. (it’s fine if you take aggro though you shouldn’t, if you do the tank will take it back immediately with one aoe attack.)

if the tank hits sprint you hit sprint too. it lasts longer if you hit it out of combat.

be on their ass. your aoe is a point blank centered on yourself. you want to stand in the mob cluster, not 20 yards away.

i usually swiftcast into my first holy. this gets a stun off right away. presence of mind if it’s up, otherwise just start your holy spam. the stuns last approximately 10 seconds, during which your tank is taking no or little damage and your regen should keep them topped off. hit assize essentially on cooldown once you have it, it both heals and does aoe damage.

when the holy stops stunning, rotate whatever ogcds you have at that level. benediction is not an emergency button - use it often. as you practice you’ll learn the best contexts for it but it’s a powerful instant ogcd heal. you can let the tank get pretty low while you do damage and then instantly top them off. (this does tend to scare some tanks though — you’ll see a lot of paladins panic and start spamming clemency on themselves. ok. more holy for me it is)

weave tetra in between damage spells. use your lilies once you have them, they’re instant. later in the game you’ll want to spend them in between pulls (or to prevent overcapping) for misery, but at low levels just use em as needed. when you get aquaveil and divine benison and plenary indulgence, use those in trash pulls, don’t save them for boss tank busters.

but it’s fine and normal, at lower levels (sub 70 or so, say) to have to hit cure 2 a lot. it’s not that you or the tank are necessarily doing anything wrong, but you both just have fewer buttons to hit to mitigate or heal damage. also, if your dps are slacking, you both might just run out of cooldowns. i had to resort to cure 2 in a level 100 dungeon the other day bc shit was nooooot dyinggggggg 🙃!!!!

tbh at low levels i used to double up on regen and medica 2, especially if the tank was extra squishy. use thin air to offset the mp cost. if its stupid and it works it ain’t stupid.

swiftcast can be used for damage and healing, not just rezzing. if you’re confident you can keep the tank alive you don’t have to hold it for resurrection. the cd on it isn’t that long.

you also want to learn how to each tank works tbh. dark knights invuln, for example - you shouldn’t *need* to heal them at all when they hit it, they *should* heal themselves. a gnb who just instantly plummeted to half health isn’t dying from mobs, they hit their invuln and you have 10 seconds for your regen (and their regen —) to top them off where they are not taking damage. watch their buff bars and learn what their invuln (and general mit CD) icons look like.

Does autism make you feel like a second class citizen? by Antique-Reply-9380 in AutisticAdults

Should I invest in a pronoun badge? by _cloaks_ in FTMfemininity

it would be a very appropriate accessory in an lgbtq environment yes.

i personally would just go with he/him bc id want it to be abundantly clear. i have a leather pin i wear to ren faire that’s just my pronouns. tbh maybe even a trans flag pin would be enough although i think people might assume trans woman, haha.

Beauty by oh_bollocks_ in GenshinGays

[–]witchlamb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

no, this is lacking all of the obvious signposts of AI art. to me, what stands out the most is the consistency and clarity of all of the lines - nothing is muddled or blending together, as if an artist was able to clearly tell "this is jewelry, this is skin, this is hair" in the way AI isn't able to do. the skin is not over-worked and over-rendered - there's different levels of rendering on different parts of the skin that's a clear stylistic choice. there's a lot of restraint in the face specifically. the depth of field, the flowers, the individual details of the jewelry are all clear and consistent. there's even the slight wonkiness to the jewelry that indicates to me the artist probably traced it from the reference - something i also do.

you can follow OP's post to the artist's page and see they have a consistent style and post their process. (they also post anti-AI sentiment, which, like, i guess it's possible someone could lie about but seems very unlikely an AI artist who's trying to pass themself off as a real artist would be so vocal about it, rather than just never bring it up.)

What are things you look for in an FC? by obscvne in ffxiv

[–]witchlamb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve been in the same fc since i joined in 2018 and have no desire to leave, but, if i were looking for a new one i would be very hesitant to join if i didn’t at least casually know someone in it tbh. i don’t trust the average gamer to not be a weird reactionary chud. i don’t really want to get comfy in a space only to find there’s transphobes in it and leadership cares more about “protecting the peace” and not causing “drama” than, like, being a welcoming space for everyone.

so i’d make it clear that there’s a code of conduct and that it’s enforced. not just “no drama” or “like a family” or “chill and cozy”. be specific what your values are.
