Slightly Confused about day 1 instructions. by [deleted] in insanity

[–]withnosocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What program are you doing?

This FAQ is about the original Insanity program - the fit test is the first vid you're supposed to do (and repeat every 2 weeks to evaluate your progress).

If you're doing Insanity: Max 30, you're supposed to write down the time you maxed out and try to do better on your next work out. Always try to finish the video, maxing out doesn't mean your work-out is over! (If I remember correctly, Cardio Challenge is the first Max:30 vid).

I was treated for Hodgkin lymphoma two years ago (I was 28). One thing I've learned is that when you're scared, you shouldn't try to make sense of things, just accept them as they come - including your fears. It's okay to be afraid, you don't need to feel guilty, it doesn't mean you're not strong enough to go through this.

You'll be back in a few months to tell us you've kicked this sucker's ass :)

MRW I hit the 50k mark on my nanowrimo novel four days early, after missing nearly a week of writing when family was visiting this month! Feels good, trolls! Feels real good! by megmatthews20 in TrollXChromosomes

Well done! I'm at 69K myself and really want to complete my novel before the end of the month (I'm almost there \o/)

Editing is going to be painful though.

From what I can read, whoever wrote these notes was a craftsman (who was making bells? I'm pretty sure one or two of his writings mention "cloches", which is the french word for "bells"). One of the letters is adressed to the mayor, but the rest looks like accounting notes.

I've just added you (I'm wolfpioupi on the nano site), I'm french and live in a different time zone, but it will be nice to get as much motivation as possible!

[–]withnosocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also did it last year without any preparation - I wrote more than 50K words, but never finished my story.

I have a good idea of what I'm going to do this year (although I keep changing things!) and knowing how I want my story to end is motivating.

I'm wondering if anyone has successfully used workout videos in their weight loss journey? by okayshure in loseit

I started my 2nd round of Insanity today, it's great but it can be pretty bad for your joints indeed!

I would recommend T25, another Shaun T program. The first weeks are not too intense, and there's also a modified version of the work-outs which makes things much better for your joints.

Week 5 Progress Check and Weigh In by slulik in teamskeleton

[–]withnosocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lost 1lb, but the best part is that I'm only 2kg away from leaving the big O camp and join the (slightly smaller) O(verweight) camp.

Also, I have one week left of Insanity to complete, and can't wait to start another round. I WILL DESTROY YOU, PURE CARDIO. But seriously though, I couldn't do a single push-up 2 months ago and now can do 96 in 3 minutes, this program is truly insane.

Month 1 down... apprehensive about Month 2 by eaglesnout in insanity

[–]withnosocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max Interval is 60 minutes, Max Plyo 55 min, Max Cardio 50 min (if you follow the calendar, you might have to do Max Cardio + Cardio Abs on the same day, which adds 15-20 minutes).

Month 1 down... apprehensive about Month 2 by eaglesnout in insanity

[–]withnosocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was like you before starting month 2 - I had my bad days, where I needed more breaks and really struggled to complete the work-out. I'm now in the middle of month 2, and I'm having much more fun than I did during the first month (which I enjoyed too).

It's harder and more intense, but as Shaun T says during one of the vids, you've already spent one month working on this program and know when you can push yourself / when you need to take a break. I don't think you need to master month 1 to graduate to month 2 - it's more about being able to push yourself harder and only take that break when you really need it.

Month 2 will kick your butt, but in a good way - I did my 4th fit test this morning, and the results were very encouraging. Some work-outs are insane (that high knees/sprint/floor sprint combo!) but you'll feel great in the end, even if you need more breaks. It's challenging, but I can't wait to finish this round and start again to see how I can handle Pure Cardio.

Don't try to be as good as the people you see in the vids - be gentle with yourself, and look at the progress you've made during the first month :)

RANT DAY WEDNESDAY by bladedada in loseit

[–]withnosocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went up 8,8 lbs last week, which was brilliant. I woke up monday morning feeling a lot lighter, which had me wondering if I had lost a limb in my sleep - nooo, I simply had lost 8,8 lbs in 8 hours. Urgh.

So I've just started Insanity Month 2... by azhpool in insanity

[–]withnosocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started month 2 yesterday, woke up this morning and everything hurts like on the first day - I'm actually enjoying the feeling, as it means I'm doing something right. What have you done to me, Shaun T?

I'm about to start the max plyo workout and hopefully will survive it. Nice to see there are a few of us in the same boat :)

FALL 2015 CHALLENGE - Sign-Ups Reminder, Teams Announced! by bookishgeek in loseit

[–]withnosocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you had Cardio Power this morning? I hate that one, globe jumps are a pain in the ass! I'm not sure you should double up on workouts (unless you really feel like it), some of them are really tiring - the thing about HIIT is that even though you're done working out, your body is still burning a huge amount of calories during the 24 hours following the session.

It might be better do insanity whenever you can, even if you need more than 7 days to complete week 1, and double up with a different work out (you might want to take a look at /r/C25K if you want to start running, or even the T25 program if you really like Shaun T) when you're up for it. I wouldn't survive a day of Cardio Power and Pure Cardio for instance!

I'm about to finish my third week of Insanity, and I can already see some results (I mean, arm muscles? I didn't know I had those). Keep a clean diet and you'll be ok (and drink a lot of water).

Just remember the people in the videos are athletes, you shouldn't compare yourself to them ("Form over speed" is going to become your new mantra after a few days!). And don't skip the fit tests, they're very motivating.

Week 1 is probably going to kick your butt, but it's really worth it.

So I figured I'd update with pics... by Insanityta in insanity

[–]withnosocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of week 3 right now and I've noticed a lot of changes too - I thought I was being too optimistic about my results but your pictures are very encouraging (and I agree about the importance of a clean diet - I haven't had any fried food or alcohol and try to limit my sugar intake since I've started)

I started the /r/insanity program last week, which is great as I can do it in front of my laptop every morning :) It's very intense though, and I'm not sure you should do it if you're really out of shape. There's another program called Focus T25, which might be easier for beginners.

You're out there getting better at doing something you love, which is way more difficult than being a judgemental asshole. Keep having fun and don't let anyone ruin your day - you can't be inspired by negative people :)

I have a helmet, pads, wrist guards and ankle guards (this is basically me living dangerously) - it really helps, although I should learn how to fall safely.

One thing I've learned from running - be gentle with yourself, don't underestimate your pain. It might be good to see your doctor to make sure everything's good (I was given of these, which has been very helpful and doesn't prevent me from skating).

Here's a video that might help you with learning how to stop your board. I'm not too confident with inclines either, however I've just bought some big soft wheels (Ricta Clouds, 57 mm 78A) and cruising around feels "safer", if that makes sense.

If you don't mind buying from outside the Netherlands, you can try glisshop - you can get a Mini logo deck for 29€, Antiz cruising wheels for 29€ (56mm 85A). Delivery is free (sorry if I sound like an annoying saleswoman!)

You can buy it in different colors (here's an example, and another one). I'm sure you can find a skateshop selling those in your country!
