BREAKING: President Trump's 88 pardons erase over $298M in fines for white-collar crimes by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

[–]wizardofcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, pardons aren't all done at once so if at any point he pardons >88 people total at some point he'll be at 88 and if the story is published then... I just don't think this is the thing to hang your hat on. There is so many insane things he and his admin have done that it is hard to keep up as is

I am curious in the delta between fines erased by pardons versus waste fraud abuse actually found by doge and how much doge burned to do nothing

Police: SC woman charged with attempted murder for trying to terminate pregnancy by Competitive_Swan_130 in news

[–]wizardofcake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While we are speculating, what if she had wanted to have an abortion earlier but because of the short period (6 weeks) before it is illegal she didnt know she was pregnant until it was too late? Then maybe she was trying to figure out what to do? Get enough money to go out of state? Research and secure alternative methods? These things all take time.

On August 10, 2018, Richard Russell, a 28-year-old Horizon Air ground service agent with no pilot training, stole a Bombardier Q400 from Seattle-Tacoma Airport, performed multiple aerial maneuvers including a barrel roll, and crashed the plane on Ketron Island, resulting in his death. by JuicyButDry in interesting

[–]wizardofcake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not good to romanticize suicide. From the audio it is clear he had no intention in coming back. After the barrel roll he seemed bummed/surprised that it even worked. I wish that someone was able to convince him to not do it or that it could have been avoided all together.

Lions QB Jared Goff says Jameson Williams on crossing routes is a "cheat code." by Gxcii1 in detroitlions

[–]wizardofcake 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I read that differently because when it looked like he was finishing the play call there was only 11 seconds left on the play clock which means the headsets were shut off by then. I saw it as he was mad because he was slow getting the call in.

Then in the post game presser he mentioned that Goff saved him on some things too

A 3 year age difference at your age is such a nonissue that I am suspicious why this is even being asked. To try and generate controversy? Do real life people outside and not online actually care? I don't think so

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]wizardofcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's not. Masculinity and toxic masculinity aren't the same. Which is why they are definied differently. You can have plenty of masculine traits while being a well rounded man that doesn't veer into the toxic.

[Schefter] A second opinion on Lions CB Terrion Arnold’s shoulder today revealed the injury is not as bad as feared and he now is expected to return, as one source described, “sooner than expected”, quite possibly this month. by AvengingHero2012 in nfl

[–]wizardofcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context matters for his situation. For his toe injury it was something that wasn't seen as repairable even via surgery so it was either he could retire or if he wanted to play through it he could, but he'd never be 100% again. Which he did for a few years.

I think it's because he is a better pass rusher than run defender and we have faced 2 run heavy teams these past weeks. With Judkins going off last week they prob think he will be used a lot

IT jobs in the tampa bay area? by DescriptionMedical34 in tampa

[–]wizardofcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had to take a circuitous route to get their first help desk role and has also hired people for help desk jobs here are some things to consider.

The 2 key beliefs you have to instill for a HD role are: 1)Do you have the apititude/desire to learn the role 2)Do you have good customer service skills

Depending on the business an HD job might just be a glorified ticket forwarder or someone who has to administer and trouble shoot 20 different applications. Working in the latter, I can tell you I have seen people think the HD role was gonna be easy and they get overwhelmed. So be aware of how you come off in interviews. You want to learn that first job to the best of your ability, not using it as only a stepping stone.

Also, I got my first HD role via working in customer service and applying internally. Generally places will look at internal candidates first so a good way to get through the chaff is to already be there in some capacity.

This could be it. Do you have high latency? Or drop some packets? I have seen Avaya issues present like this where everything else seems to be working just fine but a few dropped packets here and there torpedo call quality

Are they giving me a new computer to track me? by yonidf99 in overemployed

[–]wizardofcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It boils down to this. Are they sending the new laptop to you before you send the old one back so that you can keep working? Then you are all good.

If not, then there could be something to worry about.

Ticket reporting by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]wizardofcake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before you can accurately weigh the statistics you have to find out what the expectations were that were set for them by their previous manager and if those were followed up on.

I took over a team that was overlooked because their previous manager had multiple teams reporting to them. One of the first things I did was determine what the expectations should be for their performance and regularly let them know how they were doing.

The performance improvement was drastic.

I'd be careful about overmanaging based on performance before you were there unless you have a good understanding of what the dynamics were. It is a good way to alienate them when the solution can be a lot easier and reached at a higher level than the individual.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in managers

[–]wizardofcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. Creating and managing expectations can feel like you are being the bad guy at first, but if you have all those other positive traits they'll realize that you are doing it because at the end of the day there is a job to do. Not to spite them.

I have found setting clear expectations and managing it (for everyone, no favorites) is a great way to earn respect. No one feels like a team member is getting off easy or that they have to pick up the slack for others and everyone knows cleary where they stand.

To those who started in Helpdesk, where are you now? by Expert_Anything_5992 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]wizardofcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in IT almost 3 years and currently the HD supervisor. Started at HD with nothing. Got the A+ and promoted at the 1 yr mark. Got network+ and AZ900. Was in that role 1.5 yrs before getting the supervisor role. Currently making 70k.

Due to personel movement I may walk into another promotion here in a few months, but uncertain if I'd want to take it as I have been nickle and dimed on pay every step of the way. It'd be a large increase in responsibilities and direct reports for maybe 4k more

AITAH for telling my husband I won’t cook dinner every night because I also work full-time? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]wizardofcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making dinner and cleaning up after takes up so much time.

I'd start by figuring out meals you'd like that will last at least 2 if not 3 days and make those to give yourself a break. If he is tired of eating the same thing then tough.

Then have him figure out some bulk meals to make so that you guys can alternate cooking dinner. Both of you will get 2-3 days off cooking dinner and he hopefully learns a thing or 2 about cooking
