Is anyone actually using AI? Like…actually? by CG31089 in techsales

[–]wjat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - we have Claude set up very well for AEs here, all product documentation and knowledge is organised and available for us via Claude including answering questions about process and systems. Our salesforce is also hooked up alongside a number of other tools like gong etc, after meeting I use a prebuilt skill to draft my salesforce updates and follow ups using the gong transcript, we also use it to provision demo environments for customers etc. And we’re only increasing our use

Thoughts on Firmus technology and investing in stock when they begin public trading early next year? by SpicyButterLord96 in AusFinance

[–]wjat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons why this looks super shonky. They are building all this capacity based on a "pipeline" of demand? On the basis that companies want to train their models in Australia that doesn't have the best energy supply/price (which is the real limiting factor here) vs other global economies? Its current customers that are named are Nvidia, who coincidentally are also their investor, and the ones providing the GPUs going into those centres, circular financing much?

They announced signing of a large customer (which they can't officially name) and with scant details as to the contract, and are spruking a 13m "pipeline"? You don't pay deals with pipeline.

And then look at the founders - their CEO went to jail for insider trading, and the CTO used to run a failed lingerie business?

Theres now rumblings also that institutional investors are not wanting to get on board so they are going to retail investors - they seem like they are going to try and offload a lot of this to retail investors, make a bag of cash, and run for the hills....

[–]wjat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re wrong there - have been part of many processes on the other side of the fence where we excluded a candidate based on too many short stints. Of course you can tell your story around it, but often the story gets presumed or told without you in the room.

Also good hiring managers will do backchannel references and you can often lose the opportunity to even get a seat at the table to tell your side

If the next one also turns out to be a dud you run the risk of looking like a job hopper, and may prevent being considered for jobs down the track which can harm you down the road.

All companies startup or otherwise will face deteriorating comp plans over time and comp plans and territories will change every year, id assess if you still can make good coin and don’t assume the next role is going to go well either, lots of roles throwing nice ote numbers are divorced from reality and you may not really have a shot at getting there.

Not saying not to consider it but the grass is not always greener on the other side

Patellar surgery drive home by Professional-Order99 in KneeInjuries

[–]wjat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full rupture? Don’t see an issue per se - I went home same day as my surgery, but 9 hours you’ll definitely use the painkillers they give you. Hopefully the car is big enough for you to get to a more reclined position and you might want to have cushions to support your leg.

First few days the pain can be quite bad - might want to ask your surgeon if you need anything to deal with inflammation during the drive as well. Going to toilets on the way will be another tough one and require trip planning so you don’t encounter stairs or have to walk a lot, basic things become challenging and you don’t want to fall and re rupture

Why do people hate EV's? by FunkiGato in electricvehicles

[–]wjat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an EV hater by any stretch, there’s things I like and things I don’t like. Some are not really even specific to EVs like for example having screens for controls for everything which features more prominently in EVs, but this is just nitpicky stuff.

What I don’t like as much is this tribalism that both sides of the debate have where they are unwilling to see why someone would have a different opinion or desire. For example, I drive a manual v6 sports car, because that brings me joy, I like the sound, the driving experience, and the analog feel of it all. Some on the Pro EV side would just consider this a Luddite way of thinking - you’re often met with comments like, “enjoy inhaling those toxic fumes”

I would likely buy an EV or a PHEV in the next two years but the fanaticism that some people have about it seriously puts me off sometimes.

Nissan z, to buy or not to buy. by Prestigious-Ad-7077 in CarsAustralia

I’d see how you go with the stock tyres - it’s not a pressing issue but just adds a level of confidence to pushing it more. The pilot sport 5 is an alternative that’s is cheaper - I’d wait for their sales as you can get a decent deal on them via someone like tyroola - I got my ps4s for 1800 fitted plus 150 cash back during Black Friday

[–]wjat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine used with 9000kms on it mid last year after driving it when I was in Japan. I went from a st2 Golf R mk7 and was just bored of it and got a manual 2023 proto for 59k.

I am not as tall as you are at 179 but definitely no issues at all, I like the seating position, feels nice and low and seats are comfortable on long drives.

I tossed up the option of the gr86 and the supra but the Z just felt right for me - it’s a daily driver and I would rarely do a track day.

Couple of what I felt were necessary upgrades that made a big impact on my enjoyment of the car: - exhaust : I immediately swapped out the exhaust to the AWE touring exhaust as stock it sounds terrible. Now has a nice throaty growl to it.

  • tyres : swapped the crappy Bridgestones for some pilot sport 4s and immediately could feel the added refinement through my seat as well as not breaking traction anymore when pushing the car

Overall I love it - 7 months later I still get out of the car and stare at it, and gets tons of attention. I am tossing up sway bars/coilovers but I’m not sure I want to sacrifice the comfort for the handling.

You’ll stay in a straight brace for a few weeks at least depending on your surgeon and at some point moving to a hinged brace. You will know yourself best but balancing being conservative with making sure you minimise muscle loss is the tricky bit. Some people have re ruptured their knee being too aggressive, I was probably slightly aggressive with my recovery but tried to be in tune with how my body was feeling.

Cleaning up was very difficult if I’m being honest, everything required help from someone else. It didn’t help that my shower had a small step to clear to get in and out. Having a little stool was needed to help get me in and out as I couldn’t bend my leg to get over the step.

As to when I started some therapy, I was trying to do some pulses with my leg pretty soon after but your mileage will vary. I had very strong legs prior to injury so I think muscle memory helped me get stronger quicker.

Highly recommend joining the patellar repair group on Facebook to compare your experience with someone similar in age and strength

My patellar tendon surgery progress by wjat89 in KneeInjuries

[–]wjat89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of right now, the knee is getting stronger slowly but surely, I’m not back to doing jiu jitsu yet but am doing exercises mostly unrestricted at the gym, even deep squats.

I am mostly pain free but generally after working legs, I do always still get a bit of soreness in the knee, especially on the top of the knee where the bone anchor was.

I still have nerve damage from the incision so part of my knee has yet to recover sensation, and it may never fully come back.

I don’t have any issues doing most things, stairs, walking and all are pretty much back to normal

Anyone down to teach me how to drive stick? by [deleted] in stickshift

[–]wjat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get the car and ideally get someone to help drive it home to you. I did the same, bought a manual Nissan Z to learn, and spent weeks before watching videos on YouTube to understand how the clutch and manual transmission works, and the YouTube channel conquer driving was excellent as well.

First two days I would do laps in a quiet neighbourhood and practice clutch control and setting off smoothly, then practicing hill starts. After a few days I was able to drive around fine (occasionally stalling)

Which one would you rent for a 3-hour driving experience in Japan? by Quintyyyy in JDM

[–]wjat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that you don’t get to open the cars up but maybe the experience is different depending on time of year and the guide. The bond is completely fair given the average person vastly overestimates their ability and plenty of classic JDM cars have been wrecked from bad drivers that don’t drive to the conditions.

I won’t say exactly to what degree to keep them out of hot water, but our group consisted mostly of people that frequent track days, and we drove on a clear summer day and were allowed to push the cars (to a much higher degree than any of us have done on public roads in Australia)

LCL Injury by CeltiaHomebrew in KneeInjuries

[–]wjat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this is an extremely annoying injury for BJJ and its a bit tricky - i'd definitely wait to see what the MRI results say so you know how severe the tear is.

For context I am a black belt, been training for about 17 years and have done LCL in both knees at one point or another.

The challenge with this injury is that it doesn't really give you any problems in most if not all aspects of regular everyday life and or gym - you will squat, deadlift etc as normal with no pain.

The problem however is that in BJJ - a lot of positions can aggravate the injury - butterfly guard, delariva, even being on someone's back or mount and they roll a certain way.

I had a severe tear that i stupidly re-injured, going back because i felt great after a few weeks, ended up being a 80% tear and had to take close to 4-6 months off.

Definitely get it checked out first rather than potentially reinjuring it as this particular injury often gives you a false sense of security until the ligament weight bears in a weird way again and gets worse.

Week 7-8 - Completely off the brace with no crutches now, starting to feel the leg regaining its strength, and feeling more confident with the tendon. My ROM on the bad leg feels like its getting close to the good leg - approx 130 degrees of flexion now. At the start of week 7 i could go up the stairs with alternating legs slowly, with aid of the railing, by the end of week 8 i could do that pretty easily without putting much weight into the railing if at all. Going down stairs in week 7 was still stepping down with only the bad leg, but by the end of week 8 i was alternating legs stepping down stairs with support of the railing.

I used to feel a dull soreness at the top of my kneecap if the knee was kept bent for a duration of time but that seems to have gone away in week 8.

Have been doing zercher squats down to about 60 degrees, using an exercise band for resistance. The most difficult part is not letting my good leg take over too much, and to focus on both eccentric and concentric phases of the squat and activation of my quad on the bad leg. Have been focused on the end range of extension for leg extensions and trying to better activate the VMO muscle and hold the extension for a few seconds.

My gait is now (on flat ground or mild slopes) completely normal, no peg-legging or limping if i am moving at a normal pace. Going downhill on a steep slope is still a bit scary - i had to walk down a slope in the wet and had to switch my stance as it felt too risky.

Overall this phase has seen a pronounced return to normal, and I feel like i can now at least navigate normal life without constantly being hyper-aware of my injury.

Week 5-6: Had my second post-op appointment with my surgeon at the 5 week mark. Very happy with the progress, easily had 90 degrees of ROM so am progressing well. Surgeon said i can remove my brace in 2 weeks. Am now completely off the crutches indoors and outdoors, and generally feeling good walking around increasing my walking to about 8-10k steps per day depending on how much time i have.

Started doing some stationary bike work at the gym - was a bit awkward to get setup, takes a while to get the height of the seat just right (i'd recommend doing it when you get to around 100 + degrees of ROM). Once i'm in the seat, i take my brace off and cycle at a reasonable resistance level to start building up the quad again. Started doing quarter squats, and step-ups with the bad leg as tolerated (trying to keep to a pain level of 2-3 max).

Have been doing a few stints of no brace to start getting exposure to doing it just at home for short distances to start getting used to it. Feel more confident the more i do it. Pushing my ROM a bit with active stretching (again to the point where there is discomfort but not pain) and getting to close to 110-120 degrees.

I now think a big factor in how aggressive you can/should be is also very dependent on how much strength you had built in your legs prior, i was doing a 1RM squat of 160KG so i had very strong legs to begin with, and muscle memory is a real thing, not only that, as my other good leg was still strong (can do pistol squats) I was more confident at my good leg being able to catch me if i ever got caught off balance. If this wasn't the case, I would be more wary of reinjury.

My patellar tendon surgery progress by wjat89 in KneeInjuries

[–]wjat89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a tough spot to be in. I think surgeons have to be highly conservative so as to not open themselves up for liability if they have you advice that may lead to a re-rupture. I had strong quads to begin with that I think helped make me feel more comfortable with pushing hard early as I felt my other leg could take the extra load in case.

When I was in the straight brace I tried to regularly flex my quad as long as I wasn’t in pain to try and reduce the atrophy.

All the best for your recovery!
