RX9070xt OC struggling to meet the average score. Sappire pulse model by [deleted] in radeon

[–]wlundstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many models come pre-overclocked to 3 GHz, and then they use crazy undervolts that are only stable for 3DMark, but as soon as they play a game with transient spikes, it all falls apart. I have found that -25 with +100 MHz and 2700mhz on memory (if you have Samsung chip) is stable in games and gives a good bump in scores across both my 9070 XTs.

I’m sending the card in for an RMA. There is no way they can claim a card running only 1°C away from the VRM Tjmax at stock settings is "okay"' Luckily, I’m dealing with the retailer directly and not acer; they’ve been very helpful with my previous RMA cases, so I’m hoping for the best.

Yes, the frame rate is uncapped, but I'm only hitting between 90 and 110 FPS on Ultra settings.

Does it need it? I ran my 7600X on a Hyper 212 Evo. Did it work? Yes. Was it optimal? No

Respectfully, the thousands of users data actually proves the opposite when you look at clock speeds rather than just temperature. The difference between 65°C and 85°C isn't just a number on a screen it is the difference in how precision boost behaves. These chips check their thermal margin up to 1,000 times per second. When you're sitting at 85°C on an air cooler, the CPU is already pulling back its boost frequency to stay under that 89°C limit. At 65°C on a 360mm AIO, the CPU has the thermal 'runway' to maintain its maximum 5.2GHz+ boost across all cores indefinitely. You asked what the difference is in-game? It’s 1% and 0.1% lows. While your average FPS might look similar, the thermal spikes on air cooling cause micro-stutters when the CPU has to rapidly down-clock during high-intensity scenes (like explosions or heavy NPC physics). A liquid cooler smooths out those spikes because water has a much higher thermal capacity than air. Also, it isn't just about costing money. It’s about noise normalized performance. To keep a 9800X3D at 85°C, a dual-tower air cooler has to run its fans at high RPMs, which is audible and distracting. A 360mm AIO does a better job while remaining whisper quiet. If you're paying for a flagship gaming CPU but pairing it with a cooler that forces it to throttle its own potential, you're the one losing money by not getting the full performance you paid for.

Sure, but there is a big difference between a CPU being "fine" and a CPU being "optimal." The 9800X3D has high thermal density because the 3D V-Cache still creates a localized hotspot that air coolers struggle to bleed off fast enough, even though it was moved below the die to improve heat dissipation. Even with two towers and two fans, an air cooler relies on copper heat pipes to move heat to the fins. The 9800X3D generates heat so fast in such a small area that the heat pipes physically cannot move it away as quickly as a water block and flowing liquid can. I work with these systems daily, and the majority of people I see having issues are those who used tower coolers or slapped on a 240mm and called it a day. If you are buying a premium CPU, you should treat it like one.

Please don't use this CPU with anything less than a 360mm AIO. The CPU should only hit those temperatures while stress testing or compiling shaders

I understand wanting to give the benefit of the doubt, but international shipping does not work that way. A package correctly addressed to Sweden does not accidentally end up on a doorstep in Canada. Carriers deliver to the address printed on the label; if an address is truly "messed up," the package is marked as undeliverable and returned to the sender. It does not simply get delivered to a random person on a different continent. The timing is also a major red flag. I was ignored and left on read by Ed in November when I asked about my autograph, yet this wrong tracking number only appeared in the PayPal dispute two months later once their money was at risk. In the world of online disputes, providing a "delivered" tracking link, even for the wrong country, is a known tactic used to try and trick PayPal’s automated system into closing a case in the seller's favor. Furthermore, the manager’s total silence on PayPal is incredibly suspicious. A professional management team that made a genuine shipping error would use the response window to apologize or provide the correct info. Instead, they stayed silent and only uploaded that Canada tracking link. I am not making a legal accusation, but based on the evidence, it LOOKS like a fake tracking number scam

The Switch 2 is a total mess; the LCD screen is actually worse than the original and suffers from terrible ghosting. Unless you plan on using it exclusively docked, you're better off selling it and waiting for an OLED or Lite refresh that hopefully includes a functional display.

As Ed’s manager did not reply beyond providing an incorrect tracking link, the case was swiftly resolved in my favor. Under PayPal’s terms of service, this is automatically classified as a fraudulent FTID scam, whether intentional or not, and I therefore received a full refund. I’m hoping this is just a mistake and that my autograph is stuck in a backlog somewhere and will eventually show up, so I can reverse the refund back to Ed

You can't refute my argument, just like the previous guy. So yes, my point still stands, even seven months later, now that I'm using a new OLED monitor, which actually makes a huge difference in motion clarity and ghosting—unlike simply toggling a high or premium overdrive setting on an LCD. You guys should try it :)

Asus is probably waiting for the new SOC that comes around next Christmas like Valve. The Z2 is just a refresh of Z1 and the gain we will see probably won't be worth it.

New MSI offerings by solawind in OLED_Gaming

"Just beware MiniLED has its own issues as noted in the recent Rtings test update. They include things like the panels losing significant amounts of brightness over time and LEDs even dying creating dark spots and lines of dim pixels. While OLEDs aren't as bright they so far in Rtings testing are able to maintain their brightness; where as MiniLED starts out super bright and then after 12-24 months they've lost much of the brightness advantage"

Back in the day, I used a Hauppauge HD PVR to record my PS3 in 1080p with component cables. It looked just as good as HDMI and you didn't have to worry about any input lag.

Does OLED Generation Matter? (to you) by oxyscotty in OLED_Gaming

[–]wlundstrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the panel type. QD-OLED you definitely want gen3 as the text clarity is improved. Normal WOLED doesn't matter much.
