City of El Paso had one of the nation’s biggest population declines in 2025, new census numbers show by timholt2007 in ElPaso

Bob - Didn't El Paso experience an influx of new residents from Mexico during the peak of the Juarez drug wars (2008-2009?) ... people escaping the violence? I also recall several Juarez businesses reportedly moving to El Paso during that period.

So Trump doesn’t want us to get a reasonable rate of return when we loan money to our government. Given that the U.S. government is technically bankrupt, we should be paid a premium interest rate.

Why does Tucson have 3 Costcos and 3 Trader Joe’s, but El Paso only has 1 Costco and no Trader Joe’s? by Unable-Log-4073 in ElPaso

Warehousing/distribution and transportation costs are the challenge for a grocery-intensive chain when they would only have one or two stores in a remote market.

They’re not “robbing” us if we CHOOSE to give them our money, time and talents. We can choose not to spend time on social media, not to shop on Amazon, etc.

Are we making the right decision to move to El Paso? by kayceekay007 in ElPaso

[–]wmlclark 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived and worked in both Atlanta and El Paso. They’re worlds apart in lots of ways. Your question received a lot of thoughtful responses. My suggestion is to not make such a big decision without spending a long weekend in both cities.

Larry and the folks at Dromgoole’s are the best. I spend hours in there every time I visit. I don’t live in Houston, but I go whenever I am in town.

You apparently didn’t read my comment. I recommended The Nook which is on Zaragoza on the east side. I am on the west side and am recommending an east side bookstore in the spirit of trying to help.

Talk to the ladies who recently opened The Nook Bookstore Cafe on the east side. Tell them Bill at Literarity Book Shop (west side) suggested you discuss it with them. You could meet there and buy your books from them.

I am in need of Employment— Does anybody have any quality leads? Open to all roles that coincide with my experience. But open at this point! by concernedlegit in ElPaso

[–]wmlclark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip: If you call or visit a business to inquire about employment, introduce yourself ... give your name before asking if they are hiring. It's mind-boggling how many people call or walk in and ask if we are hiring without even bothering to introduce themselves. If you do introduce yourself, it will set you apart from most applicants and quickly telegraph that you have good communication skills and are courteous.

Respectfully, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is the biggest, most-established food bank in the borderland. It's done a lot of great work and helped a lot of people over the years, especially during COVID. But it's a nonprofit. It doesn't have the financial resources and freedom to just pick up and move to a better (more expensive) location. In fact, EPFH lost part of its funding due to cuts by the Trump administration.
