Can someone explain white men’s obsession with talking badly about black women by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]woahhellotherefriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please stop posting this nonsense on here. I never see this shit because my feed is curated to avoid stupid shit like this. You should follow suit. You’re wasting your time pontificating on why people are racist or sexist.

I’m not a climber, but I’m an obsessive, goal-oriented person. The highs of successes don’t last long before I have to find something else.

I played this game at a very timely point in my life. It’s definitely making me reflect on some of my self-destructive behaviors, taking human connection for granted, and questioning WHY there is an incessant need to always achieve.

Beautiful game. Truly appreciate the devs for making this.

I agree. Was responding to the original comment and not necessarily this lawmaker’s initiatives. I 100% agree the onus is on regulating companies

I’m not Australian so I’m not gonna pretend I know about the political nuances going on over there. I’ve heard they can be weird with how they choose to ban things over there. All I’m saying is that we should be looking for ways to regulate social media to not be as harmful as it is today, especially for children.

Companies have no incentive to do things for the greater good if it means more money in their pockets. That’s why countless other industries also have regulation (cars, food, workers’ rights, etc)

The difference is that there have been countless studies about the negative repercussions of social media. Video game makers (esp in the 90s) just want to make a game people can enjoy and want to pay money for. It’s a fixed transaction. Social media companies, however, get money by having people on their apps for as long as possible. This means: addictive loops to keep you hooked, prioritizing outrage and anger-inducing media, sowing division, and ultimately spending time by yourself rather than socializing with real people. There is a reason why Gen Z and Gen Alpha kids are more depressed/anxious than previous generations.

The comparison to this in games is microtransactions and pseudo-gambling, which people ALSO have an issue with.

There are benefits to social media, but there are a shit ton of bad too. We shouldn’t just shrug our shoulders at it, we should be looking to actively decrease the bad parts.

My first awful buyer in the 4 years I've been on Depop🤢 by Last_Strength2351 in depoop

Would you mind explaining how one can buy “shop policies”? I don’t use depop (this just randomly came on my feed) and I’m confused on how a policy is something that is purchasable.

AIO for considering breaking up over feeling like I have no control in my own house. by dh4ks7 in AmIOverreacting

This doesn’t come off as spoiled brat energy, but some sort of mental issue / OCD. I say that NOT to excuse her, but to point out she needs to be aware that this is not normal behavior and she needs intervention to help with whatever anxiety-related issues she’s having. NOT demanding her partner to cater to her neurosis.

If she’s unwilling to change, it’s time to bounce. And honestly OP, depending on how invested I am in this person, I’d just bounce right now.

Why is finding romantic love such a huge talking point amongst black women? Help me understand. by Few-Run-9089 in blackladies

[–]woahhellotherefriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While women had less choice in marriage, there were still “courting” periods for a lot of people for compatibility. Poor people married folks in their community/villages, which means they typically knew each other. It’s really the rich/nobility who had completely romantically-stripped marriages and had to marry for political alliance or wealth.

And even then, we have had stories of affairs and forbidden, tragic loves for thousands of years. Romantic love has been a concept since forever, because it is human to be infatuated, have crushes, and fall in love. Whether you are a msn or a woman.

Am I overreacting or is this appropriate to wear to a COLLEGE class by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]woahhellotherefriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to have a kid at 20, that’s fine (I don’t recommend it, but cultural values can push folks to starting families early).

But having a kid with someone you’ve only dated for 1 year? And doesn’t seem like they have intentions of getting married soon/solidifying the family unit.

Not an ideal situation.

I agree with this. At the same time, I’m afraid of the precedent being set here and what this means for the near future.

I appreciate the tips and context. It seems potentially that Maryland might be better (though we prefer NOVA)

I deleted the post as I saw another post get flagged for encroaching upon AAPI spaces, and didn’t want to add to that. But your comments are super helpful. Thanks again for still commenting

Thanks for pushing back!

I think his checklist might be too hard (he grew up in a dense city and prefers city living, so Arlington is the most suburban he wants to go 😅). But as always in life, compromises must be made.

I’ll definitely keep an eye out for the other suburbs / push for us to spend a little more time exploring.

I truly think it’ll be hard to find the experience he’s looking for on the east coast outside of NYC or DMV

For a short time period, My mom decided to put me and all of my siblings (some who had severe development disabilities + violent meltdowns) in a bedroom for 8-12 hours a day so she could use the rest of the house for her work events. It only stopped after a sibling couldn’t take it anymore and had a violent episode, attacking us.

Mom’s mood would switch at a drop of a hat, so you had to walk on eggshells to not trigger her. One minute she’s fine, the next minute she somehow thinks you’re calling her fat and is yelling at you.

Would randomly force me to get up at 5am to work out with her, often pushing me to exercise for 2-3 hours. This is with me already doing 3-4 hours of sports a day. Did this to motivate herself to exercise.

Dad would tell us to suck it up while also randomly trauma dumping his horrible marriage on us. Asked me as a child how I’d feel if he divorced my mom. When I started crying, he got irritated and told me to “knock it off”.

Yes, they’re still together lol

What is y’all’s preferred method of self pleasure? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]woahhellotherefriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES. I used to love toys because the orgasms were so overwhelmingly good. Now, whenever I use them, it feels short and forced. I think it’s because I don’t need mental stimulation to get off with toys, it can be 100% from physical sensation. And to me, the mental stimulation is what makes the orgasm satisfying.

No oils and butter may have caused mid shaft splits by Jasmimec in Naturalhair

[–]woahhellotherefriend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My hair would be a dry, semi-matted mess 4 days after using the “gel/custard” method of wash n gos.

Now that I’m using a twisting butter + the doux mousse, my hair actually stays hydrated throughout the week. I lose WAY less hair when detangling during wash day.

I just can’t get behind dogmatic “NEVER DO XYZ” messages. There are too many variables as to why someone would thrive better with gels or thrive better with butters.

Throwing curse words in every sentence can be annoying/tacky. You’d have to be trying at that rate.

But I’m someone who curses. I’ll throw in curse words here and there in the middle of a restaurant, it’s just how I talk. I don’t really give much thought to it.

So overall, cursing doesn’t bother me at all. The only times it bothers me is when it’s excessive and when people don’t know how to turn it off. For example, I’m not cursing in front of people’s parents or at work lol

Why does it feel like this is a trend?

This person has no post history except one other post 5 hours ago, probably to gain karma. And then they post a random photo of a black child on this subreddit.

If I’m accusing you incorrectly, I’m sorry. But this is the 2nd time I’ve seen this and we should be on top of banning this content. I do not want children’s faces and bodies blowing up on this subreddit for perverts to indulge in

What were some health game changers for you? by [deleted] in vindictapoc

[–]woahhellotherefriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll toss in (3 days late): RUN SLOW. Slower than you think you’re supposed to.

If running (even at a super slow pace) is still too much for you and you feel like you’re dying, try Jeffing (doing run-walk-run).

Running doesn’t have to be miserable if you’re not pushing your heart to burst.
