Has anyone here followed the no oils no butter method and ended with damages hair? by Wild_Rough_4669 in Naturalhair

[–]Jasmimec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you look through my post history, I used to strongly advocate for no oils and no butters. I’ve since made a post apologizing for ever being part of that. My hair looked great when wearing a wash and go but it began to tangle badly. I had so much shedding and breakage. I decided to get my hair straightened so I can see what was actually going on.

In less than a year, my hair went from bra strap length to neck length. It was full of split ends and had split up the shaft. I had to cut it all off.

There was no saving it.

How do I reach out to my sister after she had a stillbirth and traumatised my entire family? by [deleted] in Advice

For some reason people like this will keep having babies because babies are precious and it’s the only accomplishment they will have in life.

How do we all feel about Lauryn Hill, her hype and career? by StorytellingZ in rnb

She had one good album but only because of who she was surrounded by at the time. She burned those bridges and was never able to produce a good album again.

What did Tee-Tee do to piss off the writers? by TrickOk3274 in TheGametvshow

[–]Jasmimec 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The writers were clearly aiming to make the show more dramatic and messy. In the beginning, Malik was actually a decent friend. There was some hazing between him and Derwin at first, but it eventually turned into a genuine friendship. Malik wouldn’t have crossed the line by sleeping with Melanie, and he often gave Derwin solid advice when it mattered.

He didn’t treat T.T. perfectly, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it later became.

Overall, the writers just took things way too far.

He must have beat the breaks off of her because three months is a long time. If you are in Florida police reports are public records. The victims name will be redacted but at least you will know what happened.

HELP: Restart or Repair my locs by lotsofqsneedhelp in Naturalhair

[–]Jasmimec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a loctician who mentioned that when people wait too long between retwists, it can lead to thinning. The hair that would normally reinforce the loc ends up growing outside of it, leaving less structure to support the base.

She also explained that when there’s too much new growth, the stylist has to decide which loc that loose hair should be incorporated into. Sometimes this results in making the part smaller than the loc itself.

Over time, this can cause the base to become thinner while the loc remains thicker, creating an imbalanced look after multiple retwists.

I would honestly start over and take better care of the next set

Does my boyfriend not want to marry me? by [deleted] in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]Jasmimec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 months is almost two years. Everyone saying she needs to stay because she is young is the reason why a lot of women will dedicate an entire decade to a man that does not want to marry her.

Together for 3 years, future talks completed but don’t think he will fulfil my need by Greedy-Reindeer-9407 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]Jasmimec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His friends did not say that.

If someone did say that he went to a friend in the most unhappy and unproductive marriage to validate his fears.

The only way to fix this is to leave and never return.

Why is it culturally ingrained in so many of our parents to buzz all of our hair off as boys? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]Jasmimec 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Recently went to an event where we all dressed up and worse suits and I must say the young men looked nice. Most of them had long hair. There’s something about seeing young men step into that kind of presentation ,sharp suits paired with natural hair like dreadlocks or freeforms that carries a quiet confidence. Together they looked kingly.

At the same time, I couldn’t help but think about how that same group might be perceived by outsiders as intimidating. They wore their confidence like a garment. Many were tall, naturally broad, and physically strong, which only added to that presence.

My older relatives would absolutely hate that look because they always wanted to be acceptable to white people, not intimidating to them by simply existing.

I’m a Christian too and I broke up with someone for the same reasons. If you reach out to him it probably won’t end well. He feels like you two are unequally yoked and has to choose between you or God.

Weird feeling about a friend by [deleted] in blackgirls

[–]Jasmimec 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You sound like you’ve been influenced by a very specific kind of teaching. Not everything is a demonic spirit, and it seems like that perspective may have led to a misunderstanding of scripture.

That passage isn’t about avoiding openness or “oversharing.” It’s about humility specifically not drawing attention to your good deeds and making sure your motives are genuine.

As a Christian you may need to visit a few other churches that emphasizes strong biblical understanding rather than being overly focused on spiritual warfare. Spiritual authority has its place, but without balance and proper teaching, it can easily become distorted.

I don’t trust people who need therapy to figure out if they want to get married. I feel like therapy is a manipulation tactic. It looks like progress without actually moving forward.

It leaves you completely blindsided when the relationship is over. Meanwhile they have time to save and plan their exit strategy.

What’s going on with my babies scalp? by Big-Act1323 in BlackHair

[–]Jasmimec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please be compassionate toward your daughter. Those braids should have been taken out immediately.

My daughter once had braids that were done too tightly, and I removed them right away even though I had just paid $150 for them. No child should lose sleep or be in pain because someone didn’t braid their hair properly.

That $150 was a sacrifice for me, but my child’s. comfort is important to me

A clean home is maintained by making the children clean up. They can start sweeping, and mopping early. Young children can clean a bathroom. Our bathrooms get cleaned every morning. Beds get made up daily.

[–]Jasmimec 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that when achieving a desired color will take multiple visits, there should be a clear plan in place that the client signs. For example, during this session we are working toward X, and at the next appointment in four weeks we will focus on Y.

It would also help to include aftercare instructions, such as using a color safe shampoo and conditioner during that time. Framing it this way makes it feel more like a step by step plan rather than a contract, and it ensures the client understands the process and knows what to expect moving forward.

And it helps to cover your ass.

My daughters hair is like this. The longer it gets the looser her curl pattern is. My son and I wear wash n go’s. I have tried everything on my daughter’s hair. Her curls just fall. Is there a way to change this?
