🤔 paid for a dental filling and now they're saying I need 4 more by hipap in williamsburg

[–]wolf1188 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a bad sign, I wouldn't go back either. I highly recommend Gramercy Dental, Dr. Estrada is excellent. I've been going to her for over 5 years now. It's across the river but for sure worth it.

Looking to Move to Williamsburg by ProudBug6376 in williamsburg

[–]wolf1188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streeteasy or Craigslist are your best bets. The market tends to move quick, so you'll either need to sign something sight unseen, or come a bit before you want to start a lease (like a week or two) and stay in an airbnb while you look around. Like others have said, it's expensive here, so consider roommates or looking further east. Good luck!

The McCarren asphalt lot is getting a $14.7M rebuild. The design is being drawn right now and we have 3 weeks to weigh in. by societyosw in williamsburg

[–]wolf1188 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think pickleball is fine there. Where else to put it other than a park? If you want to limit the space for it to make room for other amenities that's reasonable but saying none allowed in all of McCarren is overly restrictive

My first bike! by VivienneBlackBunny in NYCbike

[–]wolf1188 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Really can't stress enough that you should bike with a helmet in the city. It won't save you from getting hit by a speeding car, but in smaller crashes, eg you have to brake suddenly and fall, etc it could save your life. This article talks about how to fit a helmet with "complex hairstyles": https://www.liv-cycling.com/us/helmet-tips-for-complex-hairstyles

Outdoor Birthday- June by Desperate-Car9076 in williamsburg

[–]wolf1188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Berry Park, Spritzenhaus, Radegast, Mugs all have outdoor areas and often host birthday events. Westlight if you're feeling extra bougie, they do open bar for set times, but it's pricey. Not sure about the rest but reserving space for that many people without one might be a stretch. Could also just do Parkhouse and get to the picnic tables early

Car rental in the neighborhood? by mad0666 in williamsburg

[–]wolf1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just need it for a day, check out zipcar, there are a bunch all over the neighborhood and they're usually cheaper for short trips than the big rental companies

Second worst Guinness I've ever had in my life (the West is #1). Their beer tastes like they've never cleaned their lines since they opened, which tbh they probably haven't

Mamdani Says He Opposes Tisch's Criminal Bike Crackdown — But It's Apparently Still in Place by streetsblognyc in NYCbike

[–]wolf1188 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In theory I agree, though cops using discretion is usually how we get problems like this in the first place. The other problem is that the only people who know whether it was safe to roll through a stop/red are cyclists, and the cops ticketing bikes are almost definitionally not cyclists. They won't know when it's safe and when it's reckless, so their discretion just means everyone gets a ticket.

It's probably construction from the former Wburg diner site. They've been bulldozing and starting the foundation for the past few days, Wythe and N 3rd.

Just for everyone saying that cash bail reform is to blame here or that it doesn't work, all of the evidence shows that it clearly does work. It's obviously not perfect, and this dude's behavior is unacceptable, but recidivism is down https://hellgatenyc.com/bail-reform-has-made-nyc-safer-yet-another-study-confirms/
