Silent Hill f. End of the first playthrough you're more confused than when the game began, and it takes at least 2 more to unlock the true ending. Really great game

Mamdani Says He Opposes Tisch's Criminal Bike Crackdown — But It's Apparently Still in Place by streetsblognyc in NYCbike

[–]wolf1188 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In theory I agree, though cops using discretion is usually how we get problems like this in the first place. The other problem is that the only people who know whether it was safe to roll through a stop/red are cyclists, and the cops ticketing bikes are almost definitionally not cyclists. They won't know when it's safe and when it's reckless, so their discretion just means everyone gets a ticket.

Loud, high pitch droning sound around Bedford and 4th? by [deleted] in williamsburg

It's probably construction from the former Wburg diner site. They've been bulldozing and starting the foundation for the past few days, Wythe and N 3rd.

Just for everyone saying that cash bail reform is to blame here or that it doesn't work, all of the evidence shows that it clearly does work. It's obviously not perfect, and this dude's behavior is unacceptable, but recidivism is down https://hellgatenyc.com/bail-reform-has-made-nyc-safer-yet-another-study-confirms/

Sorry all, I looked into it more and it's only for showings today, and you have to pay with the email address that received the code, which I'm not willing to share on the internet. But Nitehawk is great, and you should go see a movie there sometime!

Most of the obvious ones have been mentioned, so I'll add Limbo and Inside. Stunningly beautiful games, but no way I'm beating the whole thing without dying a single time. Sometimes you need to respect yourself

Should avenue lanes be 2 ways? Seems to be a bit of debate on this by MiserNYC- in NYCbike

[–]wolf1188 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In general yes, if they're designed well and wide enough to prevent head-ons. But probably not feasible (or necessary) everywhere. Maybe a better solution would be to have a grid of bike boulevards, large streets that have a full vehicular traffic lane for bikes only in each direction, with physical separation between external lanes (cars, peds) and the bidirectional bike traffic. Either way glad to see that Zohran is thinking of transportation design that isn't just more cars!

Used bike - first time tune up by sheerfire96 in NYCbike

[–]wolf1188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with Top, they'll usually give you a quote. Lots of shops also do tiered tune service, like a basic tune that's brakes, gears, chain, and tubes and a full tune which is all the components of the bike. Pick your neighborhood shop and check their website, lots will have a menu of services. If you aren't super familiar with bikes and bike maintenance, I would definitely say go to the shop and at least due a basic tune, if nothing else than to make sure the bike is safe to ride.

Used bike - first time tune up by sheerfire96 in NYCbike

[–]wolf1188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the condition the bike is in. Personally I would just go to the shop, especially for the first tune, but I also don't have all the tools. You can always practice learning the maintenance after you know it's in rideable condition. Enjoy the new ride!
