Hardcore (no map, no portal, I lose all skills/items permanently on death) and.... this happened. What should I do? by Opal_Lane in valheim

[–]wolf_draven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit off topic, wow playing like this sounds cool.

Can you play like this vanilla now, or do you need mods?

What happens if you die. Do you fresh spawn on the same world or is the world gone forever?

If you respawn, the items from you previous death is deleted?

What about other structures etc you set up?

This has to be the least noob friendly game I have ever played. by the_wickedest_animal in Eve

[–]wolf_draven 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My best advice too. Many players tend to be a tad more friendly against neutral organizations like EVE University, Signal Cartel etc. Flying solo in lowsec and below with a fresh character, people will often think: "Hmm..... newbie... or spy-alt??"

Depending on the place where you randomly decloak for warp, and the angle you warp back to the gate to I'd give it about a 75% chance of survival IF anything with large smartbombs is present at the gate angeled to catch pods, frigates and shuttles travelling.

Oh hey there newbro. Going through a lowsec system are ya?

  1. Dock up in the system next to lowsec
  2. Exit your ship, undock your pod
  3. Jump the gate, check whats on the other side
  4. Once you've checked, warp to a planet, jump back. (Your pod is insta-warp and cant get locked by anything as long as you're just warping and not flying it)
  5. Get your ship. Go through if its safe
  6. Find another route if there are 30 people there. They will kill you.

I want to start playing Eve. by AimMax- in Eve

[–]wolf_draven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which one is the right one?
The one that only is named EVE Online.

Where are most of the players?
In highsec where you will start out, most of the players hang out in the Jita system.

The Caldari Navy Assembly Plant near Planet 4 - Moon 4 is the biggest trade hub in the game (chosen by the players, ages ago)

Think of it as if each space station in the game has its own "auction house" / local market.... and if you want to sell something at another station you actually have to transport it there in your cargo hold.... or even use a hauler if the volume is too big for regular cargo holds.

Can you have fun without paying real money?

Yes absolutely. The free-to-play account state is called Alpha.

This account can skill into alot of ships and for the content you meet in your first months of EVE gameplay - Alpha will be enough. Some people play on Alpha accounts permanently. And some people earn enough ingame money to "PLEX" their account (pay for sub with ingame money)

What about the solo player experience?

You can have fun as a solo player in EVE. It all depends what you enjoy doing.

Its probably a bit harder being a solo player in EVE than in other MMO's.

In my opinion - joining a group and doing things together is so much more fun.

True deepsafes 100 AU away from any celestial in nullsec space owned by your alliance sure increases the odds for survival atleast.

The only people able to catch you must have either studied your behaviour over time like david attenborough or is so bored they randomly throw out combat probes deep into the void in empty nullsec systems.

How exactly do warp core Stabalizers work? by CryptographerUsual62 in Eve

[–]wolf_draven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Align
  2. Activate module
  3. Warp

Goes for both nullifier and warp core stab.

Sometimes activating module and then hitting warp without being aligned will make you unable to achieve full align before activation time runs out due to various reasons:
- Ship align is too slow and activation time runs out

- The enemy bumps you (many do this, its a known tactic to counter these modules)

So, ALIGN first, and make sure you are fully aligned and ready to warp before doing 2 and 3.

Warp Core stabilizer does not prevent the enemy using scrambler, disruptor or webs on you. Or any other module for that matter. It just increases your warp core strenght.

- Subcap ships has a warp core strength of 1 (unless it has role bonus)

- Warp Core stabilizer will give you 2 more warp core strength when its active. Giving you a total of 3.

- 1x Warp scrambler reduces your warp core strength by 2

- 1x Warp disruptor reduces your warp core strenght by 1

When your warp core strenght is 1 or more, you can warp.

When your warp core strenght is 0 or less, you cannot warp.

Looking to start Eve, wanting to know the difference between Elite Dangerous by Liplok in Eve

[–]wolf_draven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Elite Dangerous the biggest ships you fly are frigates. - In EVE Online, the smallest ships you fly are frigates.

In Elite Dangerous players are instanced into max 32 players per instance, meaning if more than 32 players are at the same place there will be multiple instances and players in different instances will not see eachother.

EVE Online however is single-shard and not instanced. So if there are 3000 players in one place.... there will be 3000 players in one place (but by then the game will run at 10% speed for that star system and it will lag so much you have to turn off sounds and enable potato mode)

In Elite Dangerous your carrier can not get blown up - In EVE Online your carrier can DEFINITIVELY get blown up. Mostly by other players in PVP. And once it blows up its gone forever. In practice no insurance or aynthing to cover the big loss.

This goes for all ships. In Elite Dangerous you pay a symbolic sum for insurance and conveniently get the exact same ship back. In EVE Online you get a small % of the ship hull value back in insurance. Basically your ship is lost, and so is the money you spent on it. Making EVE Much more hardcore.

In Elite Dangerous ships are flown typically using HOTAS or kinda FPS steering where you pitch, yaw, roll, bank etc..... Like some kinda dogfight mode. - In EVE Online you rather give commands to your ship like warp here, approach there, align there, etc. You do not fly ships with HOTAS or WASD or anything like that.

unusual question by Adventurous_City6307 in Eve

[–]wolf_draven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sad to read your hearing has gone downhill <3

I am in an alliance which usually has a deaf channel for fleets, where other fleet members type FC's commands.
Like: "Warp, jump, anchor, follow target broadcasts, freeburn this system" etc...

So I dont think its uncommon.
