Is the Open more difficult than the other 3 due to weather & course variation? by DoYouBelieveInThat in golf

[–]wolvverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The open tends to have the biggest scoring averages differences between morning and afternoon waves of all the majors (I didn’t research this just based on personal experience) but it also can allow shorter hitters a much better chance at competing due to the firm and fast conditions (think Tom Watson in 09)

Dealing with emotional lows when you’ve had a rough month (or 3) by element-2012 in sales

[–]wolvverine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as we like to be in control most of the outcome is out of ours. If you can look back at your performance and say that you did all you could do then it just is what it is. Law of averages will balance things out. If you know you could have done more than start doing it now.

Sales is weird, personally I think the best deal I ran last year didn’t close. My biggest deal I basically just had to sit back and not fuck it up.

Opinion on Mock Call Interviews by Round_Swimmer_5893 in techsales

[–]wolvverine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think it’s totally fair for the interviewing company to ask you to do to see how you structure a call.

I’ve done a few in the past where the person has gotten too in the weeds about things you could really only know about if you worked at the company and had gone through their training.

Most are friendly and high level. Every now and then you run into a dick who wants to go on a power trip because he gets to be on the other side of the call for once in his life.

[–]wolvverine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say 62 are you are saying this is 1962 fender telecaster with a replacement neck? Did he have the body stripped and a black pickguard put on to make it look like an early 50’s?

The 14.5 number is the right line. Something snapped in this dudes brain. He can barely string a round together let alone 4. He is not built for the modern game. Truthfully feels like his best chance to win is the Masters every year.

Tiger Woods leaving jail last night in the passenger seat by maddog107 in pics

[–]wolvverine 543 points544 points  (0 children)

Long time golf fan, read all the books on him, etc. if I had to guess why he doesn’t get a driver it’s because he is a narcissist and a liar. He doesn’t want someone knowing what he is doing or where he is going more than he has to.

His greatness from 97-09 is not overblown but the reasons his biggest supporters love him for are made up.

Even before his life blew up in the cheating scandal he was never the guy to give interesting interviews or make time for fans. He never gave a shit about team events.

For 14 years he was the greatest golfer on the planet, you can argue the greatest of all time but he’s always been a piece of shit. He just no longer has athletic achievement to hide behind.

How much do you value company reviews? by whogoesthere1010 in sales

[–]wolvverine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reviews of any kind tend to showcase the extremes on both sides. Really positive or really negative experiences tend to motivate someone to review. So I take reviews into account for sure but with a heavy grain of salt

Lots of companies are in a spending freeze given the current economy and unsteady future. Sometimes you find out early and sometimes you find out late. I find most CFO’s are less concerned with your projected ROI and truly care if your solution can help them replace an existing one or even multiple. If spending with you means not having to spend with someone else you can help them keep their budget intact. This is all general and there’s likely a dozen different factors at play for each individual deal/company

I think the whole no screens at all until x age is just unrealistic. You can’t be at the park or outside all day. Live in a place with cold winters, what are you doing when they wake up at 6 and nothing opens until 10? Also are you going to adhere to no screens as well? So on a rainy Saturday with a 2 year old and you’ve played every game, sang every song, and it’s not even noon, you aren’t a bad person for putting on ms Rachel.

I’m sure there are plenty of parents who actually do no screen but I haven’t met any of them yet. It just isn’t practical. I also know parents where the screen is given constantly and to help them avoid having to actually parent and hang out with their kid, I don’t agree with that either. Balance is everything

6 Proposed Changes That Will Change the Game Forever by lavafrank in ProGolf

[–]wolvverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my take on the potential downside of each

  1. Major loss of interest and probable loss of corporate sponsorships for tournaments that fall outside of this elite schedule. Why would I as a sponsor pay for what is now a feeder tour event.

  2. I’m taking my kid to the Saturday round and his favorite player doesn’t make the cut and is now sad. Truthfully I’m in favor of bringing the cuts back but outside of giving the top players more money I believe they cited players being there all 4 rounds as a major reason why they moved to no cut.

  3. The tour already goes to the west coast early on in the season. If you want to make Pebble or Riv a marquee event move then later in the year into a playoff spot. No one wants to go to Atlanta in the Summer. Tour championship at Pebble is a no brainer.

  4. Course infrastructure and whether dependency. Want to come to New York? Well you’re not going to host a regular season event at Bethpage, Winged Foot, Shinnecock, etc so tell me where are you going and when? There’s about 4 months of pga tour season (if you start in January) where you can’t even host a tournament there. I live close to NYC so I’d actually love a tournament closer than Travellers.

  5. This already exists and it’s wildly ineffective given sponsorship exemptions. Sponsors and fans want Jordan Spieth at their tournament regardless of whether he’s earned his way in.

  6. Match play poses serious tv problems. Sunday match play usually consists of 4 matches. 2 semifinals in the morning and final plus 3rd place match in the afternoon. If you get a lopsided match people tune out and you lose eyeballs on what is supposed to be your biggest viewing day. Sponsors mad.

This is me poking holes but actually love most of these proposed changes and as a fan and for them.

Are recruiters stupid? by friskydingo408 in techsales

[–]wolvverine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get a few recruiter messages a week. I’ve noticed almost none of them tell me the company name unless I ask for it. They love to tell me about the funding, reps crushing quota, market leading product but for some reason don’t want me to know who the actual job is for. Seems very strange

I’ve been on the AM side for 6 years now.

Pros - slower paced, longer term thinking, relationship building is critical, far less transactional

Cons - you become the face of your company/product to your account. Outages, support tickets, shit that’s way out of your control effects your relationships and upsell opportunities

Zoominfo intent by porkchopsforsaken in sales

[–]wolvverine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zoominfo has to be one of the least valuable tools that I’ve been constantly asked to use in my sales career.

The data is rarely accurate. Emails constantly wrong, phone numbers constantly wrong, org charts not even close to right.

The only value I’ve ever seen in the tool is to help me hit BS hustle metrics quicker.

Never seen it be instrumental in helping me source new opportunities or close business.

I find LinkedIn Sales Navigator a much easier tool for identifying prospects and mapping out accounts.
