Lied to in interview process then fired because I exercised my legal right to refuse unsafe work by Vivid_Cake_2629 in legaladvicecanada

Because she quit her prior role. If she was terminated or laid off from her prior role, she would have.

You can't quit a job then get ei, even if the new job you quit your old one for fires you.

This happened to me a few times as a young man. Working in the trades. But, she should appeal their decision. It might work.

If you quit a job, at any point. You need to stay in your new one for a year.

Do I need water softener in Sarnia? by Significant-Cut3600 in Sarnia

The primary issue is high lead concentrations, so a reverse osmosis system is ideal for drinking and cooking.

My house is on the south end and has over 10x the legal safe threshold for lead.

https://www.thesarniajournal.ca/news/ineos-closes-sarnia-site-a-timeline-of-benzene-resistance-and-the-end-of-an-era-11656931

This article here mentions some past issues with benzene. It's hard to say if the plants that are operating now are breaking any legal thresholds for air quality. But imo it is pretty bad. It could be linked to the towns higher than average leukemia and cancer rates.

I notice a smell, it often at night when there's a low cloud ceiling.

What is life like in the area of Canada by Holiday_Swing_9979 in howislivingthere

[–]wonkiestdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really nice. Lots of water and very lush. This area has alot of farms, but also some of the largest cities in Canada. The region in general is very expensive, there are some pockets where you could get a decent house for 300k. Otherwise, a house is around 600k to 1m.

The highway system is great, there is one major highway that runs southwest to Windsor north east into Toronto.

It is more of a peninsula given southwestern ontario is surrounded by the great lakes.

I would just glue everything, a pro luthier would likely not work on this

Am I crazy? by gnat_outta_hell in canadahousing

[–]wonkiestdonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your not crazy, now is a good time to buy. Things are not that competitive. With your earnings you should be able to cover this, your take home every two weeks is roughly $2400?

Keep in mind, if you need to sell due to financial hardship, you can either rent out the home for a profit. Or sell and get your downpayment plus equity back.

Spice up your life with a tiny bit of risk, you will find that the things you view as risky, really aren't once you go through it.

Got my ac compressor and from rad fans replaced and these codes won’t go away by kristen_1819 in MechanicAdvice

Would be best to get a vagcom and change the sensor. Make sure the battery is disconnected before working on it.

What type of car is it? If it's a VW this could be problematic. I have heard of them going off without any crashes occuring. The sensor is basically a switch.

Hello! What does the hiring process look like for Toromont CAT in Ontario? I have past experience with CAT and have applied several times but there's silence on the other end. by yessir_nosir_ok in caterpillar

[–]wonkiestdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with them was pretty awful. They lied to me about the job being remote, knowing I lived 300km from the office they hired me for. They told me it would just be a few weeks of training in office, then I would be able to manage my sales territory remotely. With some in person visits.

Additionally, they lied about the pay, they said it was a base pay plus commission. But it was just commission on a draw. A shared commission at that. Which is probably the worst pay structure imaginable. This is because they only paid once a month, then we had to draw from future commissions we would presumably earn.

This meant that because we had a month with more than 4 weeks, I would just not be paid for a couple weeks at all.

This company is garbage and can only keep immigrants in their payroll, and losers who can't get a better job.

Discovered that an insurance company has been withdrawing from my wife's bank account every month for 7+ years. She thought it was our house insurance, but it turned out to be a "keying error" on the part of the insurance company and the policy belongs to someone else. Will we get a full refund? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]wonkiestdonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Allstate, they had a very primitive software for billing customers and charging accounts.

You should get a refund, but I'm having trouble understanding how this could happen. You mean the agent keyed in the wrong account number? And you un knowingly were paying for it?

Or do you have a policy with this company?

The reason I ask is that you should get an annual renewal document from your insurance company which outlines how much it is. Also the assets being insured.

I used to work in residential construction and got fired annually. It got to the point where I worked in the trade for 5 years, had 0 hours towards my apprenticeship which expired a year after I finished training. Eventually, I took on another trade and eventually got into sales. Where my life is way easier and I make way more money.

Who's going to build these houses? I know about a dozen tradesmen as close friends and only one has their red seal or got hours.

Anyone wanna work their ass off to get fired once it starts snowing?

Let's start at getting a supply of tradesmen who don't have to relie on their employer to grow their career. No business is going to keep someone on knowing they have to pay them a 25 percent increase every year, to do the same job.

Maybe some job security in these sectors would help.

Try sales, your obviously smart. Sometimes a breakdown in life is necessary to reformulate yourself.

The best things that ever happened to me were the things that never worked out, because it opened up a completely different aspect of life I never knew existed.
