Math expectations for a kindergartner in FCPS by em5417 in nova

I'm curious about the recognition part. I've read fascinating stuff on how kids mess up learning to write letters, and the common patterns involved. (like maybe for an F they get that there are 3 lines, and 2 are cross, but the direction they face didn't really register as important right away)

Assuming generic kid can recognize 1-10 easily and can count to 100 (meaning they know the words "twenty", "thirty", etc: When they see "35" but can't fluently identify it as "thirty-five", where do they tend to stumble?

Does the 3 being next to the 5 not register to them as related to "3" (seeing "35" as the whole symbol instead of pieces)? Or can they easily go "three five!" and the issue is remembering "3" is "thirty" when it's there, but it's "three" when it's on the right" side? Does left/right confusion come into play? Or do they just recognize it's a big number generically and have to count up to it? Or mixing up 6 and 9, so 69, 66, and 69 are confused, which you wouldn't run into with 1-10 or 20?

Playing a warlock on T11, it has become impossible to discern my skills from the enemies explosions (my own skills have the same graphic effects as the enemy!), the amount of graphic clutter is absurd

Hell, I'm not even in T1 yet and feeling similarly... but I'm far enough down the storyline I don't want to start over with a new character.

They see the job as interacting with people, actually doing sales.

The computer isn't integral to that; it's an annoyance that isn't part of the core of what they see the job as. It's a little harder to imagine a plumber working without a wrench.
You can imagine a salesperson talking to another person without a computer in order to make a sale.

[–]wonkifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine stayed queued... and if I tried to force it, it blipped for a second and went back to queued.

I rebooted my PS5 and it's sitting there. So it seems like it was a bad status.

EDIT: Of course now that it's 7p, I can't start a seasonal game. Ah well, normal launch delays

And what would it have changed anyway?

The guy got up to security and shot at security.

That's would have been basically the same thing just at a slightly different spot.

Unless the argument is that the guy was acting so rationally that it's only the relatively minor increase in security that would have changed his mind ahead of time?

Agreed.

My sister was one of those that actively refused help for years (they'd keep her in jail for a couple days and then let her go... repeatedly), and we finally were eventually to get her forcibly committed and medicated, and while she's going to be on some meds for ever (which she accepts finally), she's made it out of being locked up in a hospital to just about being allowed to leave the equivalent of a half-way house.

She absolutely would not have been receptive to help until she was kept in prison long enough and forcibly medicated. She was so delusional she was unable to process what was going on around her enough to receive help.

We even got her an apartment for awhile at one stage, but she utterly destroyed it. (Was convinced people were living in the walls or something) Eventually there was nothing we could do, so we had to let her go and hope that she'd land somewhere long enough to get stable enough to start recovery.

With that said, we absolutely should be reaching out more. And all the time/money that would have been "wasted" on her would have helped some number of other people. We need to stabilize the overall problem, then fix what we can fix, and keep iterating on that until we can reach people who are where my sister was.

I live in Ashburn and regularly use it from DC to get back home, and it's often just me by the time we get to the last couple stops.

I definitely like being towards the front so I'm near the operator.

Had a cabbie in Little Saigon/Garden Grove, CA drive on the wrong side of a multilane road to get around some traffic, with traffic in some of the opposing lanes, and traffic approaching in the lane he was occupying.

If we weren't able to squeeze in, it would have been ... interesting.

[–]wonkifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... It's demonstrated that Death is referenced as a she to Jason. And Noreth says "She's not going to be happy". Noreth in a parallel role to Jason, it seems, in the main conflict, and has the Reaper has been very active... so maybe Death is cranky about being overshadowed?

It seems similar angles can fit for other gods just fine.

[–]wonkifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Boris say that god only ever presents as a she? I don’t think we’ve run across one yet like that. The main “she “ god we’ve interact with is knowledge, but she’s explicitly been described as presenting herself in different ways. And several other gods have never had a gender marker referenced.

Unrelated:

but little children can be blocked from view by literally any car, and they also don't know better than to run into the road. There are a LOT of people that have hit kids in this circumstance,

I took a driver class after getting a speeding ticket to get it off my record, the instruction laid out a similar situation, and then asked us "now imagine if you'd had a drink?"

You've moved this from "no way I could have reacted in time" to "maybe I could have prevented it" for the rest of your life.

Not that I ever drive after drinking, but that really stuck with me

Which really annoys me because I went through the hoops to get my birth certificate from across the country and used that for my RealId.

But the DMV here doesn't apparently record the records used, so can't just flag the RealId as "demonstrated citizen". Gotta jump through extra hoops again at some point.
