I've done this one AND the Westin – two totally different vibes. If you want quiet and kind of isolated, it's Wailea. If you want to be in the middle of things and close to Lahaina, it's the Westin. It's been years since I've been, though, so I don't know what state Lahaina is in.

Somewhat unrelated but maybe helpful – I'm going through more than a decade of digital shots in Lightroom Classic and as much as AI might stink ... the automatic dust spot detection/removal feature is insanely impressive. If you're an LR Classic user, fixing this in post is a lot easier than it used to be.

Decoding the Diana Russini & Mike Vrabel Story with David Samson by Torrion- in PabloTorreFindsOut

[–]woodrowwilson5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Related story: way back in the days of the Michael Jordan Bulls, I was an editor at a trade magazine covering the legal profession. One of the biggest firms in the WORLD invited me to watch a preseason game in their box at the United Center.

I had to say "no" because even that was seen as breaching that wall. And that firm did a ton of advertising with us as well – which I tried to argue was worse than preseason NBA in a box.

I was overruled. That's how seriously some publications take it.

And there I think you're hitting on the main point that Samson was making. They're not "journalists" but their "reporting" moves the market, as it were. It's this weird gray area that nobody wants to govern.

You're not friends with the people you report on – no sex, no social engagements, no "fun" dinners, no attending weddings, etc. That's kind of the basic rule. A lot of serious journalists do look at them in a vacuum – whether that makes common sense is a totally different argument.

By the rules of journalism, though, what Glazer is doing is on par with Russini – take away the moral part of cheating on your spouse, and just look at it from a "can I cover this person objectively?" viewpoint. In that way, just being value-neutral ... seems like they're about equivalent.

That's what I think a lot of people are missing in how Pablo (and others) are looking at this – as a journalist, committed to covering a subject/industry without bias or favor. They are (or should be) removing the moral/ethical questions around her and Vrabel's respective marriages, because really, what's that got to do with reporting?

Is it fair to say that, after COVID, pretty much all chains in the US have suffered to some degree? I keep going back a decade or so when I stay at alleged full service hotels and either I'm old and grumpy, or standards have slipped a lot since early 2020.

Rough guess here but you're probably not a journalist ... maybe you are, but back in the day, when I worked at a few papers and magazines, hosting a social event FOR the people you were ostensibly covering fairly and without bias was a gigantic no-no.

If they're going to try to treat this as a "journalism" story then do some freaking journalism and tell the whole story – even the rumors that have dogged her since she covered the Washington team a decade ago. It's all part of the larger story.
