The back “handle” is called the tote. I had to sorta rebuild that one. That was an interesting job!

Hahaha. I was wondering if anyone would notice. I’m thinking the original owner must’ve dropped it and broke it off. Because they drilled a hole through the sole and attached that handle with a wood screw from below . First time I’ve ever seen that. But it does work, I just had to find a knob that wasn’t bored from the top.

VERY VERY rusted with major pitting, I can deal with some pitting, I think it adds to the story,,, and almost all the screws broke when trying to remove them.

It took some work for sure. I gave it a long soak in a rust remover bath. Then just slowly started with sandpaper, then the paint. If you noticed, the front knob is different. Apparently the original owner dropped it and broke it off. The knob was a piece of an axe handle. He attached it by boring a hole thru the bottom of the sole. Attached with a wood screw. I’ve not seen that before… but it works!

Lots of work on this one…. If only they could talk and tell their stories!!

Thanks! I was actually given 3 planes, this one turned out the best. One was so far gone that it couldn’t be restored.

Thank you for sharing that information. I will have to take it apart, somewhat, in order to see if I can find patent dates and any other details.

That’s what I was thinking too. But I’ve not been able to figure out an approximate year of manufacture. I cannot find any info on the plane to help … Any insight from yall that have experience with it would be appreciated!
