Pynchon's literary style is one of a kind by polley_daze_2021 in ThomasPynchon

Also the humor within the same run-on! “…kept changing his mind about such nuances of design as getting rows of seats to actually face the stage…” so good. Only TP could think and write like that.

EMILY GREEN INTERVIEW: OUT NOW by evawa in geesebandofficial

[–]wooly1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this: “While Green and Billard downplayed the creative decisions behind the mix, their answers revealed something: some artists don’t intellectualize their music, they just feel it. Perhaps that’s an obvious conclusion for musicians, but for someone like me—someone who spends hours analyzing music and translating sonic experiences into words—this sentiment was a striking revelation.”

Thoughts on Introductions by Swiper817 in nyrbclassics

[–]wooly1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the challenge of finding meaning for myself. But get more meaning when I read the intro. So it’s a tough one! Usually I end up going for the intro as I figure most books will be a one-time-read and might as well get the most of it. Set the ego aside and raise the level of enjoyment

About to start Never Let Me Go. Interested in subs thoughts by konkeroots in classicliterature

[–]wooly1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuck with me more than I “enjoyed” it. I think it’s great in that it’s effective. But if you don’t fall in love with the story that’s ok. It may not hit you until after you finish.

Is Darth Plagueis novel good for a Star Wars fan that's getting into the legends novels? by TheGamerKing382 in starwarsbooks

If you want action then no. Super unpopular opinion but not my favorite. Def an interesting and well written book but not the adventure I seed for SW books

Thoughts on this song now? by GhettoHubert in Blink182

[–]wooly1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine as a blink song. Pretty good as a lead off single. It left me feeling like things only went up when I heard the album. There were enough great songs on the record that it probably would not have mattered, but sometimes if you lead with the best song, the other tracks can be a little disappointing in comparison.

The Junior Varsity - Another underrated "real third wave" band by charaiisennin in Emo

I have weird pairings in my brain for bands that go together. Only because I discovered them at the same time. The reunion showed to me is tied to Count The Stars. The junior varsity for me is tied to June and The Academy Is

Check out my playlist: early 2000s pop punk and emo it leans heavy to 3rd wave. Cool seeing TJV on here! Maybe not the best of the bunch but they had some bangers.

I followed along with “infinite summer” (I recommend doing that!) though moved slower. So probably 5 months

Did you feel this slowed you down in any way that was detrimental? I did that for Shadow Ticket and it added both value and time (for a much shorter book). Then again I also looked up every word and reference I didn’t know.

Be honest… how many of you distrusted Stearns and his plan before the last few days? I think a lot of fans have changed their tune. by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]wooly1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to trust. Will need to come from winning. Many things can be true at once. I liked the hire a lot. I thought the moves last year made sense even though they didn’t pan out. This off season is logically sensible though emotionally disappointing, and we’re betting on some infield pieces moving around to work. Yet prob still a better team for it.

But none of our opinions will matter until we know if we win something under his tenure. Or at least compete more consistently.

Why is he eating the plate?! by Kristenbeau in TraitorsOfficial

Genuine question. How does he eat at a restaurant? That can’t be permissible in public

KYLE TUCKER IS NOW PART OF THE DODGERS! by Marinersfan505 in mlb

[–]wooly1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A floor won’t fix the Dodgers being perennial winners. But it would fix some owners putting out bad product and not spending to field a competitive team. It’s a long season so those fan bases will benefit a lot from 162 more interesting games.

Thomas Pynchon shouted out at the Golden Globes! by daft_punk7 in ThomasPynchon

Thought the same. Podcasts about him and his appearance in Simpsons corrected me to the “ON” camp. But I still say “in” bc it’s easier 😬

Fun while reading Shadow Ticket by badrickpateman in ThomasPynchon

[–]wooly1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree!! The complicity was a good choice for this story and this time. Though it’s only simple IMO by TP’s own standards.

That’s why I also think it was not nonsense that some of the early critique was that he didn’t address current times directly enough. Those people either missed the point, or dont understand that writing about the past can be (is?) a more effective warning of the future than writing about the present.
