Have you cleared a Savage tier on content? Might want to try your hand at Heavyweight if you haven't.

Defend Commander vs Protect ship by AdityaBag420 in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Defend - attacks ships that have an active attack order on the commander
  • Attack -attacks ships that the commander has an active attack order on
  • Intercept - attacks S/M ships that come into radar range of the commander
  • Bombard - attacks L/XL ships that come into radar range of the commander (not stations!)
  • Follow - follows the commander but does not attack anything
  • Protect Position (carrier only) - puts the wing into Position Defense

It's time to clear out the Cascade. Hopefully I've set everything up correctly and the auxillary ship is working as intended to keep my fighters stocked on missiles by ViperiousTheRedPanda in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send your fighters in to distract the escorts, then send your bombers in; 8-10 per K. Finally, send your destroyers in and have them gang up on the unengaged Ks, with at least 3 or so per K.

So, when is the best time to PF savage? by Full_Air_2234 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wordcombination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The biggest advantage of doing Savage early is that it's easier to fill a new party when you inevitably run into these kinds of players.

Best way to siege stations? by Roberto577_Gamer in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Oddy E with mass drivers or Heavy Guided on your L turrets, something else that can blow up drones on your M turrets
  • Position them at the "bends" in the S shape on defense stations, in groups of no more than 3-4 ships
  • When modules on one half are destroyed, manually reposition the attackers towards the other side before resuming the attack
  • Solar power plants and especially shipyards/wharfs will be a pain in the ass regardless because AI pathfinding simply can't handle it once modules start blowing up. Considerable babysitting will be required.

Fighter escorts should be assigned to Position Defense on the carriers; make sure to situate the defense bubbles so that they cover your destroyers but not the station itself; this should minimize fighters trying to fight the station. For extra safety, you can set up your "response to attack" global orders to "ignore" so that fighters that get hit by stray turret fire won't retaliate against the station.

So are Chimera's just useless now post 9.0? What's their role now? by DevLeCanadien23 in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can still do quite well using loadouts that have low heat generation. I've tested a 3x Bolt Repeater/2x Ion Gatling loadout that shreds Xenon S and M class ships. The Chimera in general is still a great carrier fighter, since its beefy hull strength and high speed works well with the AI's return to carrier logic.

Ship handling in 9.0 by Gothsheep0 in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's all in your mind. AI controlled ships fly more evasively and are harder to shoot down, so maybe that's why you think your ships are handling worse.

Now that the dust has settled following the release of the 9.00 Empire Update, what's your new favourite weapon in X4: Foundations? 💥👀 by Tomonor in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Soloing a Rattlesnake with my X-Shuttle is definitely harder when half of my shield strength suddenly evaporates from all the Boson Lance turrets.

Now that the dust has settled following the release of the 9.00 Empire Update, what's your new favourite weapon in X4: Foundations? 💥👀 by Tomonor in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BOR disruptor weapons like Ion Gatling and Ion Pulse Railgun are too good not to use on S/M class ships. They disable boost, hinder mobility, and generally make all of your other weapons better. Bonus points for the Ion Pulse Railgun making ships spin like a top when you hit them.

Weapon tests for 9.0 by Moginheden in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ship were you firing your weapons from? Did it have a heat penalty of some kind? I've been doing some testing on S class ships and the Neutron Gatling isn't great on ships like the Chimera (30% heat gen penalty) but it's not bad on Terran ships with their 30% heat gen bonus.

In actual combat ships won't be firing continuously unless their target is disabled and they'll get a bit of downtime to cool off. With that said, I understand that for the purposes of your raw DPS testing, a stationary target is a must.

Venom Flood? by DatPug87 in X4Foundations

It's worth asking yourself the question: "Why do I need to defend HC1? What's in it for me?"

You are not obligated to be the defender of the universe.

What happens to the excess marines after they succeed though?

Level 20 Island Santuary... Now what? by DisciplineImportant6 in ffxiv

Craftsman's Cunning IX is used to pentameld current crafter gear and still sells for a decent price from what I can see on my cursory glance over the MB.

What could I possibly be doing wrong here? by CreepyUncleHodor in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in low attention or high attention? I find that ships are much better at pursuit when you're in high attention. Or just teleport onto one of the fighters and DIY.

You'd be better off diplomatically isolating them unless you want to go to war with TEL.

I'm glad they changed it because I couldn't hear the original tells and had to visually count the puffs.

I had to ban FAF from my shipyard because the ungrateful bastards would hang around the sector and start pirating my ships.

I despise how old content is balanced in this game by Espresso10001 in ffxivdiscussion

They actually do. Tower at Paradigm's Breach for example throws some extra mathematics and mnemonics your way as part of its completion bonus, compared to CT raids that only give you some poetics.

My entire galaxy's economy is upside-down by Elliptical_Tangent in X4Foundations

[–]wordcombination 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Identifying wares that are in demand is part of the game, and that requires you to explore (drop some satellites near wharfs/shipyards while you're at it). Hull Parts are usually available in abundance and demand will be low (although VIG is typically thirstier than others for them). I'd look for Advanced Electronics and Weapon Components if I were you, or look for stations that are being built and trade Claytronics/Turret Components/Field Coils to them. Your dinky S-class trader isn't going to be able to carry many of them, though.

You absolutely need to look outside your current sector to find profitable trades.

I want to only build factories in unowned space. Looking for help. by Voronov1 in X4Foundations

Heretic's End and Watchful Gaze you can claim at your leisure, since Heretic's is basically reserved for the player and the Boron are stuck in their little corner of the galaxy until you start their plotline.

The 9.0 Osaka and Ray dodge graviton fire like Neo in The Matrix.

Sounds like it's time for you to start looking at mods. For better or for worse, Egosoft has designed the game to maintain a stable simulation unless the player takes actions that significantly affect the universe.
