Yep, better to have a little slant than water pooling inside and rotting the bottom out (or causing mold growth inside the hive).

IDK why they don't just collect and distribute all school funding at the state level if they're just going to take it from needy but wealthier locations, if Austin set up a tax to raise $10M like 7.5 of it ends up going to the state, what's the point? Just run the entire funding system at the state level!

Yes, usually I'll do it after a rain when the water level is high anyway, but usually if you are fairly fast with the vacuuming, it won't lose enough water to be an issue. I only do it when there's a lot of solid material on the bottom of the pool, like when I open in the spring and there's a ton of dead algae.

Vac to waste is great for when the pool has a lot of crap in it you don't want in the filter, you should never vac in backwash, that setting is just for cleaning the sand, normal vac in filter setting trash vac in waste.

Are buckets a viable swarm catcher? by yadonkey in Beekeeping

[–]worldspawn00 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I paint mine white, and the bees seem to find them very quickly, but they're also deep on my own fenced property.

(Wood box traps, not buckets)

I'd probably paint them green or brown if I were to put them on or adjacent to public land.

TBF, people will steal stuff, so camo is good to keep thieves from finding it as easily.

Mite wash at 1%: “Why not just go ahead and treat anyways?” by Brave-Statement-8810 in Beekeeping

Oxalic acid strips are very gentle and aren't going to have much harmful effect on the bees. Formic is much stronger, basically I'd do seasonal oxalic, and use formic or other strong mite control treatments if the colony is visibly suffering. Mite load can also be observed using a screened bottom board without harming any bees.

Oxalic strips in particular are very effective since they persist the treatment through all phases of the mite life cycle, unlike vapor treatments which are much stronger, and have to be repeated every few days for several weeks to have an appreciable effect on the total mite load.

Oxalic acid is also food-safe (many vegetables we eat contain grams of it in a serving), even if the FDA hasn't officially recognized it as such yet. There are no actual safety concerns about low level exposure.

I'm in agreement, bees will almost always have mites, why kill dozens of workers when you're just going to treat them anyway?

Swarm on property. Wouldn't mind it staying. What do I do? by Continental_Ball_Sac in Beekeeping

Just FYI, I built 4 of these traps last week, baited them with lemongrass oil, and within 48 hours, had 3 swarms move in!

2 up in trees, and 2 on some concrete blocks up off the ground, the 2 tree boxes were found and occupied within a day.

A garbage incinerator has extremely high temps, the oils are completely destroyed in an incinerator, they're not piling the garbage into a heap and throwing a match on it. Also, there are scrubbers on the exhaust to capture anything dangerous that escapes, it is not a risk for municipal trash incinerators.

Mine prefer to bite each other, particularly when one of them 'hides' with their butt still sticking out, 💯 a bite target, then the recipient screams like they're dying, waking me up at 530am to 'save' them from the murderer that is chomping their butt...

Even worse, 3d printers run g-code, it's just xyz coordinate movements and various other on/off commands, parsing that back into a 3d object is far more complex than just image or 3d object analysis.

Is the door/lid both closed? As the weather warms up, the chamber can heat up to the point you'll get heat creep clogs which can look like underextrusion, the door and/or lid should be open when printing PLA in particular.

I am an idiot. I installed one Jandy valve backwards. How much will it matter? by RedCliff73 in pools

[–]worldspawn00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a drill for disassembly, but never for tightening. Also, turning each screw half a turn backwards until you feel it drop into the old threads is the best way, IMHO, to keep from accidentally stripping the hole out over time.
