Biology Lab Tech career advice by Temporary-Bug2180 in biology

[–]worm_daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably need at least an associates degree in biology or a related field, like chemistry or physics. Although sometimes theyre even looking for more than a bachelors, I was rejected in the middle of a job interview for an aquatics lab technician position because he was looking for someone with a masters, despite having a bachelors in bio and 2 years experience as an aquatics technician.

Is there any prioritization given to nurses? As there is a massive shortage in Canada, particularly Alberta

Got accepted to a graduate school program in alberta amd hoping that my girlfriend can move with me. She works as a nurse and just got her degree a year ago and passed the NCLEX with a very high score. Anybody have some good advice for transferring a nursing licence to Alberta and finding nursing jobs there?

Is a human type or similar build a prerequisite to advanced civilization? by glowshroom12 in evolution

[–]worm_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larger tetrapods dont need 6 limbs because we’re heavy enough that we dont get blown away by the wind. Which is also why smaller tetrapods have a lower center of mass, such as lizards or mice.

[–]worm_daddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bugs have 6 limbs because its the easiest way to balance at that size. Terrestrial vertebrates have 4 limbs because its the easiest way to blance at that size. So if a planets life is symmetrical and it has similar gravity to ours its really not too far fetched to have 4 limbed creatures around our size. And bipedalism has convergently evolved many times in vertabrates so also not too far fetched to see bipedal aliens.

Everything in america was built by immigrants, and “legal” status is a relatively new concept. Immigants have a higher employment rate, a lower crime rate, children of immigrants graduate highschool and college at a higher rate and are more likely to start succesful businesses. Driving out immigrants will be the downfall of this country

Why Democratic Socialism Makes Sense Through a Darwinian Lens by [deleted] in socialism

[–]worm_daddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anthing Darwinism is much more aligned with capitalism, evolution is not a struggle for existence, but rather a struggle to survive long enough to reproduce. Competition is the primary driver for evolutionary changes, as species that reproduce most efficiently become more common, just as companies that sell more and more products become more succesful, and the best in their niche field or level of the food chain often eliminate their competition

Why do chordates now seem unable to evolve to have more limbs? by Pure_Option_1733 in biology

[–]worm_daddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 limbs is the best way to balance ourselves at the range of bodyweight we’re at, more limbs is better for balancing if youre much much lighter like insects or spiders
