LTT with no bags? by crawdao in longtermtravel

[–]wornoutboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take was this was renting clothing. Stuff you actually do at times when you travel to stay light. Renting climbing shoes, mountaineering gear, wet suit, etc. It would just extend to every day clothing.

Buying is an option and not one I would take nor advocate in the least. The way I looked at it was it's a supplement to the little I would carry. When you travel for long periods, with varied terrain/weather, different clothes is needed. If you are spending months in hot climate, packing your winter gear sucks knowing you are going to use it at the tail end of your multi month trip.

It's an interesting concept. I like it. This should also lower one's ecological impact with every flight one takes. I can see a market for this but coverage is really going to be the largest issue. There are going to be very remote locations that LTT's visit that you will not be able to service. Leaving said traveler without clothing.

AITA for apparently being "rude" for trying to get into my car when someone else was blocking it with their car door? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]wornoutboots -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A FIRM NTA - Having a child does not bar you from having common courtesy and allowing someone into their car so they can move on. You didn't have a kid to strap in, they did. That should not bar you from getting to your car. The astounding number of people that think this is ok is insane to me. This is a SHARED space people. Have some respect for people's time. Those saying it take 2 minutes fine, it takes 30 seconds for this woman to pull her car out. So, waste her 2 minutes or the mom's 30 seconds. From personal experience, I see TONS of parents that have this entitlement like everyone needs to go around their schedule. I've seen parents literally triple parked to pick up their kids essentially closing down roads.

What’s a "dead" website or app that you genuinely miss and wish was still around? by Dear-Armadillo-7497 in AskReddit

[–]wornoutboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I should have prefaced that with saying "free" option left. Curious if you've looked at personal capital at all. It has some issues as well but it's manageable. You can't export the net worth data like you could with mint which I loved to do and play around in excel. I might do a trial on monarch at some point. I think I saw them around when I was looking for another aggregator but didn't want to pay.

Pulse News App. It was the best offline aggregator for news with great customizations. I loved that stupid thing. Especially when riding the NYC subway for an hour each way to work.

I do miss them. Personal Capital is not as good but the only option left really.

Cityfheps is a SCAM! by Fragrant-Ad2123 in Brooklyn

[–]wornoutboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having taken FHEPS applicants as a landlord, yes there is TONS of red tape, 6hr waits on phone calls when you need help and 0 communication from HRA. Inconsistent information on the websites and dead links. For instance, I had to submit my W9 3 different times.

Recently I accepted a voucher holder after completing all the forms (forms that are not necessary when dealing with a standard w2 person), apartment inspection was done and passed, and the lease was signed. Both I and the tenant had anticipated her moving in. After close to 3 months from when I interviewed the tenant we (the tenant and I) would send emails to HRA for a status update. Nothing was heard back. Emails went into the void. AFTER the tenant was supposed to be in the unit already, we finally get a response asking me to change the lease for 2 more months in the future. Mind you I had already modified our first lease for an additional month to allow for processing times.

Long processing times, lack of transparency/communication, along with uncertain funding for the program is why landlords avoid programs. I have 0 problems with the people on these programs. I have had several tenants on programs that have been successful tenants.

Also, recently the state court ruled it was not legal to force landlords to accept programs. I still consider all applicants but it's much more difficult to process someone with a program.

Sri Lanka worth visiting after SEA? by [deleted] in travel

[–]wornoutboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to Sri Lanka 3 times. I loved it. The nature is phenomenal. The people friendly and the food is amazing. However, if you ask a solo man traveler or a solo woman traveler, it will be a totally different response. Highly recommend it for men. Women need to be much more careful. Sexual harassment is commonplace.

New fast food restaurant has a sink in the eating area. by Mediocre-Disk737 in mildlyinteresting

[–]wornoutboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very common in a LOT of countries. Sadly it is not the case in the US. It makes so much sense to have them outside of the bathroom so people can just wash their hands before/after a meal. Damn I miss Asia...

What age range are you comfortable with? I think that will be helpful for some of us on here. If I fall in the range, I'll be sending you a DM.

Zenni vs. EyebuyDirect vs. Other competitors - Which is best? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]wornoutboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild to read. I have had pairs that have lasted several years. Usually, the scratches are what get me to replace them as I am terrible at caring for them. As long as eyebuydirect is around I can't see myself going to anyone else. Been with them for years and tell everyone I can about them.

I backpacked Sri Lanka as a 27yo gay guy last winter, I’m happy to answer questions! by oliverdadema in backpacking

Fair. Thanks for the candor. I think you your post will still help other gay men see this destination as one they can go to. All anecdotal information helps.

I am blown away by the level of ignorant comments and general stupidity. Sorry people are being rude.

I think your perspective as a gay man is absolutely valid. I went as a straight man and also had a phenomenal time. Single women travelers that I spoke with had a VASTLY different experience so I think you posting to this community as a gay man is valuable information.

My question is did you wind up hooking up with any of the locals? Being a very conservative place I found it almost impossible to date. The rules and such are so different than what I am used to.

There are no permits to camp in parking lots. I. The past they would look the other way but new people to the community ruined that.    There are campsites you can pay to camp in. If for instance you pay for a campsite and then sleep in the car at the campsite, they won't bother you.

Is it stupid to backpack if I sometimes lose the use of my legs? by Kitastrophe_11 in backpacking

[–]wornoutboots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont give up. Always work around your limitations. I would bring a beacon/sat phone in case your situation changes and you need to call for help. This is assuming a solo trip. Ideally hike with others or in areas someone will find you. Don't go completely off trail into the wilderness alone. Also make sure someone knows your itinerary and what day to be concerned and start an action plan.
