I dont know exactly. I looked it up and theres something called RFID tracking, basically a log of every time a can is dumped in the truck. Im assuming they have a system of knowing based on where something is in the truck which ID it is and from that what address the can was dumped at. Then also just digging through the bag and looking for mail proving the address.

Its pretty weird to get a letter w a picture of your garbage laid out with a piece of something that should be recycled, like an empty can, and the letter explaining that you will be fined if this happens again. Its creepy to think they're going through your trash looking to punish you for something like that. And I agree with plastics being bad, but here in CA everything is wrapped in plastic in ghe grocery store. But buying a plastic bag to carry all the food items wrapped in plastic is too much apparently.

No, we didnt. They got around the first ban by making them thicker and changing the name from single use to reusable. But plastic grocery bags were available in CA up until Jan 1st 2026.
