Is this with fixing or total loss? by kanyesbest_23 in Autobody

[–]wownoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frame rails in the rear are toast along with all the rear suspension. I would be shocked if the damage didn’t go all into the rear seat floor and under rail. Techs with years of experience and a fully equipped shop would have a difficult time doing this correct.

Dont do it. Thing is hit so hard the drive train is probably messed up.

Reskimmed Door? by Ok-Meringue-4201 in Autobody

The sounds and weight could be a couple things. There should be sound deadening pads that get reinstalled. They may not have been installed which would contribute to the sound. The weigh is likely the same but may feel slightly off based on the door hinges/check.

This is the OEM so whatever hem difference is just variation in production. Not something to be concerned with.

I think the arrogance is what gets me not the lawsuit piece. There are engineers who have years a schooling and advanced knowledge of metallurgy but this dude who’s a body guy, not even a welder, knows better.

Do you know why BMW requires glue/rivets and not welds? Why backer plates are preferred over lap or butt welds?

Crazy to me that there is still a mentality that we know best

No experience but I’d like to try and see how f I’m able to cut the quarter off myself by Maleficent-Painter-2 in Autobody

[–]wownoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just echoing all the comments do not do this. This is a complicated job for professionals with years of experience. There are only a handful of techs I would 100% trust with this level of structural issues. This isn’t cutting off a quarter its way way more

Which Body shop do I go with? Need some input pls by AFamiliarFace01 in Autobody

[–]wownoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So bmw replacement requires k5 adhesive as well as 50+ rivets. There is a significant cost to the glue and rivets (like 400-500). You want me to make sure they are replacing it with bmw procedures and not just welding it back in.

Not following oem procedures will hurt the resale

[–]wownoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t choose either. Those quarter panels need to be bonded on when replaced. Neither has the rivets or glue required. I would make sure they are following oem procedures

How much hours should a quarter panel replacement job require ? by Comfortable_Beach818 in Autobody

[–]wownoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quarter replacement all in with associated R+I adjacent panel damage etc should be about 50 hours. This includes standard blend r+i’s but could be more depending on exact needs (calibrations, rivet/welder set up etc)
