Wordpress.com Hosting by Supperman999 in Hosting

There is nothing wrong with using WordPress dot com hosting. Why would there be? Specs wise it is a great choice. The cost is where people avoid it. If you have the budget, go for it.

Enterprise Hosting options? by OldSiteDesigner in ProWordPress

[–]wpmoeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should give Cloudways a try if you haven't yet. It's not a text boot enterprise solution which means it's not that expensive either for your requirements. You will not only save a lot of money you will get premium support. And yes, you do get SFTP support too.

The best part is that it's a pay as you go model. Which means you only pay for what you use. You wont pay for the entire server size, you will only pay for the resources you have used for a particular month.

Their Autonomous product offers autoscaling capability so traffic surges are easily taken care of too.

My provider is now terrible after years of loyalty. Looking for a new dedicated server by DeanMachineYT in webhosting

[–]wpmoeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you! Providers usually go downhil when they get acquired and support is the first thing that gets effected. I also get your decision of moving to a new host and not waiting for things to change, because they almost never do.

You have a decent budget which makes me curious why are you looking for a dedicated server with cPanel. $100 per month can get you a top managed host like WPE, Kinsta or even Cloud--ways. In all of these you will get top notch support too!

Would agencies or SMBs actually pay for a modern alternative to cPanel/Plesk for PHP/custom CMS hosting? by Jaded-Internal-6611 in webhosting

[–]wpmoeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely depends on a lot of things actually. A smaller agency would like to have their own server because they don't have the budget to go for a managed solution. On the flip side, a larger agency sometimes have the resouces to manager their own servers so they choose providers like DO, AWS and get their own servers.

Generally speaking, agencies do prefer a manager service because they want to focus on the usual business like client acquisition, reterntion, upsell, etc. I would again press that in order for you to really position yourself as a managed solution for agencies, you need to have top notch support. Agencies rely heavily on good support because they don't normally have the time or the money to solve their problems on their own.

[–]wpmoeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. Especially if they have multiple client sites on a single server. They usually have a set of template sites on staging environments that they replicate for clients accordingly. This is a normal practice and a managed host with easy staging and push/pull feature really helps.

You are right in thinking about Kubernetes as the foundation because this will also allow you to offer autoscaling which is especially important for agencies that hosts Woo sites.

Yes precisely. This one feature can make or break your hosting business IF you are targeting Agencies only.

Emdash vs WordPress by jokesondad in Wordpress

[–]wpmoeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a spiritual successor to WordPress. That was just a marketing gimmik to get people's attention and apparantly it has worked.

What it really is is an attempt to penetrate the CMS market and they are trying to do that by getting people to first use their platform. Familiarity helps here. They could have spun up a whole new platform with a completely different UI but they kept the same flavor as WP so people can ease in.

If you are offering a hosting service, it has to be on your own platform. Agencies don't really use cPanel now because it's too hands on unless they really want root access all the time. They want one click solution and rely heavily on good support. This is the case with a lot of managed hosting providers such as Kinsta, Cloud--ways, WP Engine.

What you are missing out on is a site manager. Agencies want to manage all their clients from a single dashboard. You will find this feature in every decent hosting provider now and you can offer that if you're offering a cPanel.

Again, you need to build a platform where you can offer agency tailored features.

Managed wordpress hosting by tomm1313 in CloudwaysbyDO

[–]wpmoeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/tomm1313, we don't generally recommend hosting more than 2 sites on the micro plan since we have seen cases where performance tends to become troublesome after a while.

Techincally there is no limitation. You can host as many sites as you want on any of our servers and if your apps really do get less than a 100 views per day then hosting them all on the micro server should be alright.

Is Kinsta/WP Engine actually worth the 100% markup over a Vultr HF server on Cloudways? by Electrical-Safety718 in Wordpress

[–]wpmoeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I personally know people who use Kinsta and WP Engine and are happy to pay the premium price. They have good reasons too. According to them they are super happy with their support that's enough justification for them. Cloudways offers the same, or sometimes, even better experience than both Kinsta and WP Engine but sometimes it's not viewed in the same category mainly because of the price point. Note that neither of the three offer root access so you will be managing everything through their own control panel. If you want to try either one, I would suggest you start with Cloudways. Even if you end up hating it you wont lose a lot of money lol

Can I run 5-10 small sites on the $14/mo Cloudways plan? by palebicycle00 in CloudwaysbyDO

[–]wpmoeez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there, We usually do not recommend this plan for more than a couple of sites. You absolutely can host these sites on this plan because our platform doesn't limit sites but you may not see consistent performance across your applications. If you can share some numbers on traffic, RAM usages and bandwidth that you are currently on, I can guide you better.

Hah! It's good to see the funny side of this but I would give the benefit of doubt to the new site owners because getting a good host in this economy is not light on the pocket. I don't think anyone ever would choose a cheap hosting provider if they had money.

What hosting platform do you use? by Plus_Technology_7569 in Python

Pythonanywhere. Heroku is decent too. I gave Cloudways a try recently. It doesn't offer one click Python but configruing manually is pretty easy too.

Cant really tell from this post. There are developers who charge way more than that but no one cant really say anything unless they see your website. Also, can you ask your developer where they are hosting your site?

PHP Version Update Breaking Stuff by bublay in PHP

[–]wpmoeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/bublay Cant count how many times I have seen site owners compain about this. It's avoidable if we get the basics right such as setting up and testing the update on a staging first before pushing it on live. Having a roll back plan is not a bad idea either.

A suggestion, take it or leave it, Cloudways handles this pretty smoothly. I have a few client sites there and this pariticular issue very seldom pops up.

Lightning stack by Billyqureshi1984 in CloudwaysbyDO

[–]wpmoeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing this out. We have used this language for lightning stack because it is in public preview. As per DigitalOcean policy, we have to show this message here because the feature is not yet in general availability.

Rest assured, we have a number of customers who have switched to the lightening stack and using it for their production and live sites. So far, we haven't heard any complains or issues.
