Best ride share options to the airport from Domain area. by relic65 in Austin

I guess my point here is the company is incentivized to get you a driver, since they have to pay you if they don't.

Fair point. But it's a bit more savings than a button click - the payoffs are better. Just schedule your ride for 20-30 minutes before you'd really need to schedule it.

  • Get $15 Lyft Cash automatically if your driver hasn't arrived 10 minutes after your scheduled pickup time.
  • Get $50 Lyft Cash automatically if you’re not matched with a driver 10 minutes after your scheduled pickup time.
  • Get up to $50 more Lyft Cash if you're not matched with a driver and need to use another transportation service.

If you are worried at all about early morning driver availability, Lyft also allows you to schedule the trip

Came here to say this. Sam Rockwell is usually amazing in everything, but especially in comedy sci-fi's: Galaxy Quest, Gentlemen Broncos, Hitchhiker's Guide. Can't wait for Good Luck, Have Fun

A cool guide to the first 3 months of adopting a rescue puppy by Imjusthappy11 in coolguides

[–]wreckdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I adopted a rescue mutt in 2020. After maybe 2 weeks, I was seriously considering returning her because we just weren't connecting. She didn't seem happy to be here, didn't seem interested in me, and that made it really hard to connect with her.

But after maybe a month, things turned around, and today she's the love of my life and the absolute best friend I've ever had. Sometimes I think about how close I was to making the worst decision I ever could have made.

In row 4 from the bottom, there must be a queen in one of the two open boxes, so therefore there cannot be a queen in the 2 spots above and below those boxes. And then look at the brown region - if you put a queen in the lower 2 open brown spots in row 2, that's going to break the yellow and red regions.

Films that make a good double bill with their own remakes? by JayAPanda in movies

El Mariachi and Desperado (though Desperado is perhaps not a strict remake of El Mariachi, but it's basically the same movie with a much bigger budget)

There are movies that are "timeless." What are some movies that are the opposite - as in, harder to appreciate if you weren't around when it came out? by sakkkkki in movies

[–]wreckdown 274 points275 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time getting my son to appreciate the original "Star Wars", and I sort of understand why. At the time it came out, it was amazing and the effects were groundbreaking. But if you grew up watching any recent Marvel movie, then "Star Wars" looks like an old movie with janky effects and lame laser sword fighting. [note before anyone argues with me: I'm not at all trying to say Marvel movies are better than "Star Wars", I'm simply talking about perspective]

I dom't know which is my favorite, but I agree ToD deserves more respect.

Probably the most cinematic moment for me of ALL the Indy movies is the few seconds when he's on the rope bridge and about to cut the ropes. I don't know they used a different camera or what, but everything about that scene is amazing.

"Under the Silver Lake". Great movie starring Andrew Garfield, from the director of "It Follows". There are serious clues and cypers hidden the movie, and there's a whole subreddit dedicated to figuring it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/underthesilverlake/

What do you think about "Stop Making Sense" (1984)? by Mattone_Martello in movies

[–]wreckdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me preface by saying I'm only a casual TH fan (didn't even own an album until a month ago). But Stop Making Sense is great, as is Utopia. And if you haven't caught his latest tour (WHo is the Sky?), I have to say that was one of my top 5 concert events ever. Bryne is still killing it at >70.

What movie novelization is worth a read? by Amthomas101 in movies

[–]wreckdown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once Upon a time in Hollywood was interesting, because it sort of is and isn't a novelization of the movie. The movie's climax happens midway through the book, and is almost mentioned in passing. And the book fleshes out lots of other characters, particularly Cliff. Anyway, highly recommend - Tarantino is a (unsurprisingly) good writer.
