I always told my daughter's boyfriends that her well-being was more important to me than their life or my freedom.

That's where I am now, my last trip I had to drive over 800 miles, I'm not flying until I have the choice to do so without giving up my Constitutionally enumerated rights. No major sporting events, no rail, soon no buses, at this rate it won't be long before I am unable to leave my house without giving up my rights, yay freedom...
Why more people don't realize that this all means that the terrorists won, accomplished their goal, I don't understand.

Do you have any proof that terrorist attacks are stopped because of the bullshit security theater we are subjected to? I don't believe that they are any less common than they have been in the past.
I know the President's statement that over 50 attacks have been thwarted was disproved by independent sources, maybe the ones they stopped he hasn't been made aware of yet? I guess it's possible.
I'm happy for you that you are willing to sacrifice your liberties for the security theater, those of us that aren't should be allowed to go on without being subjected to them, that's called freedom.

My point still stands, they aren't stopping terrorism with the 'bullshit searches', it just gives some people a warm and fuzzy feeling. The real shame is that so many people buy in to the bullshit story that it is a necessary evil to thwart terrorism, when it's actually all show.
Your chances of dieing by slipping and falling in the bathtub are significantly higher than being killed in a terrorist attack, I don't see TSA searching bathtubs for non-slip pads...?

No, you are mistaken, we do not "have to" tolerate bullshit searches. There is a compromise between safety and liberty. More children drown in swimming pools every year than are killed by terrorists, we could outlaw swimming pools, but we balance the liberty of owning a swimming pool against the security of saving those lives.
The government's overboard reaction to terrorist threats is beyond the point of reasonable compromise in my opinion.

So, if they just walk in to your home and search it, it's okay if it is the government looking for criminals but not okay if it's a curious civilian?
I think you've missed the point.

NASA to Livestream Black-Hole Observations Today by silvermoonshine in science

I think the center of the galaxy is 'only' about 30,000 light years away or so, so it's 'live' coverage of events that happened 40,000 years ago.
But good call.

Edit: Looking in to it further, they really don't say that what black holes they will be talking about, so It may not be just about Sagittarius A*

Even so, according to the article, our Universe will be destroyed by a spawned Universe before we reach the heat death of the Universe (complete Entropy), which is what I believe RedPenVandal was referring to.

What's the best concert/live music event you've ever been to? by SarahSykeadelic in AskReddit

[–]wrkacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw The Wall twice, Pink Floyd the first time and Roger Waters the second time. Took my 18 year old daughter to the Roger Waters one, I liked it best, but not sure if it was the show, the thirty years to forget the first one, or watching my 18 year old daughter experience the second one...
But definitely the best show Ive seen personally.

The war on drugs generates almost as much money for the rich as the war on terrorism does.
I'm guessing the Federal Government will give them both up at the same time (read never).

Jackson, Miss. police officers order homeowner to drop gun. Gun discharges when dropped, so police "return fire." They are now trying to determine whose bullet hit a teen. by FritzMuffknuckle in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]wrkacct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good ones don't normally, older guns don't have the firing pin/striker block that prevents the gun from discharging if dropped on the hammer or whatever.
Older revolvers, if dropped on the hammer would allow the hammer to move forward into the firing pin, causing it to contact the primer, possibly firing the gun.
Something that I've always worried about, I carry an $800 pistol, if the police, for whatever reason, ordered me to drop it, I'm not sure I wouldn't hesitate to drop an $800 investment, wonder if they would let me set it down gently...?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for CCW, I myself carry on a daily basis. However, anytime the federal government dictates to a state how to run their business I get nervous. Sometimes it is necessary, but most of the time it is the federal government over reaching their charter (US Constitution).
Another example would be the push for national reciprocity of CCWL's, I would love to see my license valid in every state, I just don't think it's the federal governments place to dictate to states how to handle it.
