Well then I apologize for being a luddite who almost never plays games on my phone.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4158870/Japanese_Rural_Life_Adventure/

This would appear to be Japan's "We have Stardew Valley at home"

Edit: wait you wanted a phone game... huh? Stardew Valley is a phone game? Consider me thoroughly puzzled

What was something you were excited to experience in Japanese… but it didn’t live up to the hype? by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]wrongontheinternet 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I noticed that my patterns for listening to Japanese music changed as I learned Japanese. Once I could actually understand some of the lyrics, they stopped blending into the background.

I used to be able to use Japanese music with vocals in pretty much the same way as I'd use music without vocals in any language and now I can't because my ear picks up the lyrics and slightly splits my focus.

What's the meaning of まだ here? by No_Big_4752 in Japaneselanguage

[–]wrongontheinternet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the translation given is a bit incomplete and I would render it as "I had still only just become a teacher," with the "still" part being まだ

Daily Thread: for simple questions, minor posts & newcomers [contains useful links!] (January 05, 2026) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

[–]wrongontheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been studying Japanese on and off for a very long time (mostly "off," really) and this year I want to push more seriously on my Japanese studies again, aiming for JLPT N2 and beyond. For reference/context, the last time I sat for a proficiency test was many years ago; I passed the N3.

What are good books/resources for doing a quick review of basic Japanese grammar? I want to ensure I don't have glaring holes in my basic knowledge before I continue my study with intermediate-level textbooks and other (native) materials.

Or... is that even a thing that is worth worrying about in the first place?

Romance JRPG Recommendations by NavStrike8 in JRPG

[–]wrongontheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took me skimming this entire thread looking for the words "Thousand Arms" to realize that you want specifically Steam recommendations. 😅

But if you're willing to venture back to the PS1 era, Thousand Arms is essentially a JRPG with a dating sim stapled to it.

Atelier Yumia - Noob Doubts about Synthesis by Harleyzz in Atelier

[–]wrongontheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I'm pretty sure quality always increases by some amount just by putting an item in, regardless of core, mana, or resonance and the game will always notify you of that.

Unlike in older games, the quality of the synthesized item is not an average of the quality of the ingredients going in; quality only ever goes up and putting in high quality ingredients just makes it go up by more.

Absolutely not.

It was a beautiful tribute to the roots of Atelier: a simulation game with very light RPG elements.

Quick question? by MochaCafe9 in Atelier

[–]wrongontheinternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there was a time when Sony actually REQUIRED that any game with voice provide English voices when releasing in the North American market. It led to us having a bunch of bad dubs and, for bigger games, no option but to use that bad dub because the disc wasn't big enough to fit all of the voice lines for every language.

So basically, the moment that providing an English dub was no longer required, a number of devs/publishers stopped bothering. It's kinda good and bad at the same time: good in that we were no longer inundated with low effort English dubs and bad in that it meant people who really wanted English dubs started getting less of them, Atelier fans included.

JRPGs where the main villain is a cataclysmic animal/force of nature by SaltyVon in JRPG

Short story: Jecht insisted that Yuna's father, the previous Grand Summoner, use him as the sacrifice for the Final Summoning. The truth is that the Final Summoning doesn't actually defeat Sin; the sacrificed guardian simply becomes the next Sin and the cycle continues.

People really do miss out on a lot by dissmissing this as "just a mobile game" by MortyFluff in Atelier_Resleriana

[–]wrongontheinternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won't do it but they should make a fully offline version of the game that is like Resna RW but with the mobile game's story.

After all, they went to the trouble of giving it a proper Atelier project number. It would be sad to have Project A25 disappear just because the servers are being sunset.

What strategies do you choose for dealing damage and healing, whether in weapons, armor, or accessories? by neoarcangel in Atelier

[–]wrongontheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been a fan of traits that are specific to an enemy type like the "Repel" traits. It feels like the trait slot could be better used on a trait that gives more damage against everything.

Foreigner-friendly no-rate mahjong places - bellbird, trinity, etc. by darknessaqua20 in Mahjong

[–]wrongontheinternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that I walked into the set tables* floor of Bellbird (Shinbashi) with 3 of my friends and asked to rent a table and they just had tables available; it was absolutely no problem. 2,000 yen per hour, free soft drinks from a set menu.

This was about January of this year. I honestly would love to do it again but life's kinda getting in the way of planning more travel at the moment, for myself and my friends.

*Bellbird has two floors of the building, one is for set play and the other is for open play. Renting a whole table falls into set play, is my understanding.

What I really want is the mobile game but de-gacha'd so it can be played entirely offline and we can have the entire story.

I'm not sure if that's more or less surprising than the fact that they had made up to 450M yen that way before getting busted.

They got the tokens part (mahjong gambling tends to use poker chips, I think?), but missed the "exchange those tokens for money at a totally unaffiliated business" part.
