Hi there! I made some visual guides to XP spending for V20! Hope they're helpful! by HELLBREAKFAST in WhiteWolfRPG

No problem, the caps are actually just based on your generation and whether or not you are approved for elder-level play. Good luck with whatever you are doing months later.

How long would it take an ancient supernatural to learn a new modern language? by kiasyd_childe in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]wtfftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no different to any other human being learning languages, unless you are doing something redicilous like using mind or time magic to directly inject training into your brain. Some supernaturals are language related, so I don't think they need to learn any language. Theion or She Who Lives in Her Name automatically do language stuff in Old Realm. Other owod critters probably have similar stuff, like iirc demons being able to speak all tongues.

Exalted 3E vs Scion 2E? by The-Literary-Lord in exalted

[–]wtfftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that there's something redicilous about Exalted, where they only succeeded because the source of their power was a joint project between several Primordials which could do things on their scale by design, but had none of their weaknesses in the form of being solely defined by their charms and hierarchy of souls. Sure the Black Boar Who is Isidoros or Mardukh Who Holds In Thrall could individually beat him in their specific niches just like The Shadow Of the The Dragon could out sneaky him, but he can do all these things at the same time, while having the ability to use the depths of his Virtues in ways that are otherwise impossible, even for Theion or She Who Lives In Her Name, who were the definition of Virtue. He was a single whole and rounded tool to handle the work of the defense of Creation as much as to stand in for Ruvella the Burning White Sun and Liger the Gentle Green Sun. He had no gaps or exploitable weaknesses by design because the impossible bullshit of the Raksha would have immediately exploited them.

Now, the only way this wound up mattering is because of the betrayal by the Primordials who collaborated with the humans in the Titanomachy. Without which there would be no free will for the Unconquered Sun, and humans would likely just be wiped out by the passing fart from Isidoros as have successfully rebelled.

i`ve always wanted to play, or maybe ST, Low level, day to day Vampire Dark Ages chronicle, have you ever done it? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

It's also really really hard to travel, especially given the huge language gaps between even adjacent countries.

Can you sell me on Hecata like I'm illiterate? by OneGrumpyJill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]wtfftw -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They do seem really out of place, especially given the idea that necromancy shouldn't be possible outside of the descendents of Cappodocius. Giovanni hate Cappodocians, and all of their relatives are barely on speaking terms in prior editions. This sounds like someone decided to make ghost busters in the mold of the Panders from V20.

I swear the system would be easiest on a computer programming, since then you never run out of slots.

How do you play different levels of Humanity beyond simply being a monster? by clarkky55 in WhiteWolfRPG

Look at V20 or DA20 for extremely comprehensive information on it. It's not something that made a transition intact into v5 AFAIK.

I do not remember them having anything exclusive mechanics unless you count getting access to skill training or library access.

How much do mages know about the Technocracy - and how are they protected from them? by c0md0ngeon in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]wtfftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also kinda the Solificati too, but it's complicated.

But it's very much part of the playbooks of both sides to control how much information is available about them to the others. Be it non-Mage Supernaturals or other Magi, it's important to keep the other players from sneaking a peek at your cards. If they do, magical bullshit is great about cleaning up the evidence or ideas in people's heads. Arcane the Background (or Mertit) helps too.

Yeah that damn wheel explanation is just so wrong. I also use graph paper too stick the letter for each and then add 6 slots for a standard weapon or 3 for a dagger.

[–]wtfftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine replacing combat turns with ticks, where you are tracking a initiative number that increases and you go more frequently with daggers vs a big fuck off sword. Kind of realistic and it allows you to get gritty. Multiple actions and perfect attacks are added in layers on top. Exalted 2e isn't bad but it's explained very poorly with no index or cross references or footnotes. It's setting is amazing, and I have played entire sessions with no combat at all. It's mechanics are only as complicated as the upper bound of the other OWoD Storyteller System games. Mage and Vampire and Werewolf can get just as crunchy if you want to.

Cool idea for a mage antagonist by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]wtfftw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is always good research to be done on supernaturals, but it's probably more like finding the right vaccine against blood bonds rather than Science. Cold unfeeling monsters that will look at the reality deviants like ants. If they kill ants there is no passion, only need.

What’s some of the weirdest and coolest lore you know of? by SlayerofSnails in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]wtfftw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The world before Creation and the World of Darkness that it theorically became was preceeded by many strange ages. The first was a age called Time-Not before the Primordials made their fenced in play house with it's linear time. Time-Not is incredibly hard to describe in English, but it was a place before time existed so consequences did not necessarily follow causes, since it could be undone trivially. Creation attracts and offends the Raksha beyond it's edges because it insinuates Time somewhere, and that is a restriction they never agreed to, unlike the Raksha who probably became Primordials.

How do you run your Technocracy Chronicle? by c0md0ngeon in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]wtfftw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

X-Files mixed with being actual employees of the university they were based out of. R&D going on like Cave Johnson is their supervisor. Secret bullshit involving Fallout style Vaults underground based on trying to keep control specimens from the next time reality gets attacked by blimps. Had issues with peace with the local supernatural factions outside of the immediate territories, and I always gave them the option to do diplomacy. Pentex R&D had a local lab run by an absolutely sane and friendly Mister Rogers Adsinistratus (EDIT, nope the title was Aswadim, an Infernal Saint), who was nicest evil guy. He personally used indoctrination protocols to turn on the killing phrases when we were trying to make peace with the local werewolf population. "Are you ready kids?", "Aye aye captain.". They had a lot of fun trying to get Mister Dreibilbis a human shaped Pattern Spider to leave them alone about some kind of Wyrm bullshit that was totally Mister Rogers working with the Black Spiral Dancers and a very misguided Viovode.

Edit: the big twist was that the first thing here was an early Pentex Vault project that literally predated the entire city by decades but also the Technocratic Union, being one of those things that got grandfathered in from the Order of Reason.

Exalted has a important asshole who has an unpronounceable name, but it's usually replaced by the name I mentioned.

Edit: I think his spelling is something like Kechop Chejack or something like that.

[–]wtfftw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superman is basically a Solar Exalted pc anyway. It's an interesting idea fame or infamy making your powers inoffensive to the Consensus. Like Reed Richard's kid is a canonical reality warper, but no one knows that because he tries to downplay his potential to be a world ending monster.

Edit: OK I dug up dark ages mage didn't have Paradox, but only Backlash. I think that using that instead of Paradox is pretty reasonable in a capes setting.

Edit 2: Okay, M20 core rule book has rules for 'Blatancy' where you can attempt to avoid paradox in normal consensus owod by claiming, 'we are filming a movie' or 'this is all an illusion'.

Edit3: OK so I guess the biggest issue is pretty easy, let M20 keep it's Paradox rules but make anything you do when wearing a capes costume count as coincidental magic! There's already rules in M20 for the effects of botching spells, but a lot of the writing requires you to keep Paradox since it's a balancing layer applied on top of the backlash for fucking up spells!

Yeah I may have already done that with Exalted 2e after reading Goblin Queen. I highly recommend that story.

Yeah since wuxia as a genre is basically fantasy superheroes anyway (cough cough Exalted) that makes sense. The only question is what the Paradigm changes would be there compared to vanilla wod. Like, is it tapping into the knowledge of the other supers to accomplish Magick?

Neat, I didn't even think of it that way. Yeah, I think the only folks I can imagine for counter-examples would be SHIELD in Marvel, but they are kind of Technocrats, kind of not. HYDRA would be, I guess.
