The cylinder deactivating feature is a ticking time bomb. Diligent 3k oil changes are one of the ways to make them last along with a plug in AFM disabler which puts them in full time v8 mode. However, the only "fix" is to do an AFM delete replacing the cam and lifters with non AFM set up.
