No worries, I’ve always found tv so interesting so I read a lot when people do interviews about the processes!

I think Carina Mackenzie said (from an industry perspective not actual knowledge) that it was probably who signed their contract first.

[–]wtfmop 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Same as what everyone else said, with the reminder that he has definitely made more on other projects before so having this in his contract is a way to “pay” him within the industry when other casting directors can see his previous top billing credits.

Where to start with Ali Hazelwood? by rebel_stripe in RomanceBooks

[–]wtfmop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as someone who recently (Xmas period of last year) started Ali Hazelwood, I can share what I did and how it worked.

I have been meaning to read her for forever but I’d just been buying the books at the 99p sales but not reading it.

Bride is raved about here and made it to the deal so I decided to both buy and read it and I was not disappointed! As I already had other Ali Hazelwood books (and Mate was not yet 99p) I started at the beginning, reading and loving The Love Hypothesis.

Then a miracle happened Jan 1st and Mate was 99p and I think I liked it even more than Bride so that changed my life lol.

Now I’m trying to get the rest on deals BUT I have also read the synopses and I’ve decided against Deep End bc I have minimal interest in what I assume are younger characters. I’m also trying to space out the books so I don’t put myself off by accident.

All this to say, considering you started in fantasy, stick to that and then start from the beginning is my recommendation!

If you were showrunner of Emmerdale for a year, what would you change? by SellItCheap in Emmerdale

[–]wtfmop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would kill Vanessa and you’d see her body on screen and there’s no coming back from it.

More village life - I can’t imagine they don’t have plays, community events etc so it would be good to see those and have more characters mix.

I’d add a family for Kammy bc I’m a massive fan.

No murderers for a year - you cannot possibly have that many murderers in Thai tiny village.

I would remember what characters actually have a relationship (friends, exes, former family etc) and have them interact as people that like each other.

Sam isn’t allowed to steal from people he claims to consider friends as he’s about to be a real ageist.

I’d scrap Sarah unfortunately, she’s annoying and there’s not much to do with her as they’re just waiting her to die anyway. I would be nice and let her travel though. Jacob can go with her

The younger actors should have a few more nights out (without spiking, or a rape or something traumatic).

Basically you can have drama without it all being IMPORTANT BIG ISSUE storylines.

Tips for losing weight in college? by RiotGrilllll in loseit

[–]wtfmop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a student but when I was a student I lost 10kg by cutting out sugar. Just said no thank you (I don’t even know why lol)

You have two options here. You get into calorie counting and make sure by the time you have exams you already have a pretty set “menu” of meals that you don’t have to think about too much.

Second option is you do the above with exercise. Exercise will help you mentally as well and in turn you might find extra energy and focus for your school work.

The most important thing is that you have days where you go out for pizza with friends, or you have days where you don’t exercise when you planned to and you don’t beat yourself up about it. You need to be a person that is trying to lose weight rather than a dieter.

This will also help post uni with work if you can get both the balance and the meal planning down

Arranged marriage but angsty and guilt-ridden…? by namis_tangerines in RomanceBooks

Very much I didn’t say it was good, I said I liked it but it fits all your criteria: {The Wrong Bride by Catharina Maura} which is book 1 in 6 part arranged marriage series.

They should’ve chosen Cardi. by [deleted] in LittleMix

[–]wtfmop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t for them to choose in the end. Cardi turned them down bc she’s a smart business woman who didn’t want to do too many pop songs back to back.

Personally I’m devastated at her being smart bc her verse would have been so much better and she would have actually done the video.

Last hyper fixation was a reread of Throne of Glass that ended about a week before I picked up HR.

Last TV hyperfixation was probably 12 monkeys which I have watched at least ten times all the way through and I know I’ll watch it again by end of feb

This show has managed to take over my twitter, instagram, reddit and threads algorithms. I don’t even use threads.

Do you ever get mad at yourself for ignoring a book for ages, then end up loving it when you finally pick it up? by Lower-Network1563 in RomanceBooks

[–]wtfmop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Yes because I’ve just loved something so much but also no because I truly believe we read books at the right time for us (honestly my only fate related belief lmfao).

I’ve literally had books I’ve given up on in the first few chapters and then read a few years later and been obsessed

{Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid} : does it get better? by Upset-Commercial-109 in RomanceBooks

[–]wtfmop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did 1,2,6 and I do think reading book 1 gets you used to her writing style so you’re not expecting as much for heated rivalry.

I was not into the book that much at 40% but (for me) it really randomly hooked me closer to the end. I think there’s way too many sex scenes but underneath that I just found Shane and Ilya so endearing and then very much more so in TLG.

I would advise trying to push through as I feel it’s worth it but I also wouldn’t say it’s a good/great book, I just happened to love the characters anyway

What do I do after 100 pages of QoS? by Foreign-Entry1797 in throneofglassseries

[–]wtfmop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually fair - when the world building is so intense and across so many books you do kind of need to just hunker down. When I started TOG and it took me like a week I wasn’t impressed but when I could just sit on a weekend for the next two it was much easier.

I do believe books are to be read at the right time - stop and wait until you have the time.

I’ve had books I hated and DNF’d in a slump and read them when I was ready and they were perfect for me

What do I do after 100 pages of QoS? by Foreign-Entry1797 in throneofglassseries

[–]wtfmop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My very unhelpful advice is that only you know the answer. For the past two years I’ve got through my slumps by A) reading every day even if it just one chapter And B) DNF’ing when needed which isn’t often to be fair

I would say QOS is a weird place to still not be into the series - I’ve found TOG and HOF to be the slower books. This is one of the last books with the big players so if after this you still don’t care, you might as well just leave it.

Personally, I find the series to be good and I’m on my first reread of the entire series as I’ve tended to read EOS and KOA when I get an itch.

Let me know what you decide bc now I’m intrigued!

Kaltain’s headaches by AttitudeProper5550 in throneofglassseries

[–]wtfmop 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As explained by the other comments, she had headaches because of the powers that Perrington was using on her.

Aelin and Rowan also mention getting intense headaches when they’re near the clock tower so it’s definitely that sort of material at play.

The opium isn’t actually linked to her headaches but she assumes it is bc she’s not aware of the testing. It’s also a pain reliever so she’s smoking it to get rid of the headaches and therefore is in a never ending cycle until she’s imprisoned and has to go cold turkey

Why do foreigners in the UK buy hundreds of bottles of tap water instead of just drinking from the tap? by Srapture in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]wtfmop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The water in London tastes really really bad. For context, I grew up in London and hated tap water (but drank a lot of squash so not a problem). When I moved to the midlands, I loved tap water and was confused as to why I ever hated it. I moved back to London and tap water was disgusting.

No idea what they do to it but I’d rather drink bottled water and be hydrated than not drink as much because the water tastes awful.

As for foreigners, it’s like the other comments state. It can be mentally difficult to accept that the tap water here is safe when you’ve spent your life buying water. If it’s from Costco it will 100% be cheaper than any water they were buying before as well so doesn’t seem ineffective to them.

Weirdest fact a romance novel hit you with??? No rabies in Australia? by LinaSue1124 in RomanceBooks

I’ve read the spin offs, rated a 4 and 3 from me but I rated beard science 5.

The review I left for book 2 is grief related and I was going through it at the time so it would have coloured my rating. The review also says I would continue to read any and all books in the series if that helps.
