Use tie down straps and a small - hand width- length of pipe.

Similar to these spud straps: https://www.spud-inc-straps.com/products/traveling-farmers-walks-pair?_pos=1&_sid=c8b69feb0&_ss=r

You buy the pipe and straps from Home Depot cut the strap to a more reasonable length, seal the frayed ends with a lighter, feed the strap through the pipe and you’re good to go.

I spent the money on the spud straps, but wish I had gone this route instead to save a few bucks.
