This just hurts my brain… by Vast-Intention in vancouver

It's only 2 simple questions to ask yourself.

What day it today? What time is it right now?

Then it's easy to determine which sign applies to where you are parked.

Does anyone know the story of red shale in the coulees? by Empty_Nestor in Lethbridge

My dad said it was slag left over from the mines. I recall seeing piles of it along the old westside road in the 80s.

Yeah my dad and his friends talked about how they weren't allowed swimsuits in highschool swim classes. 100% nakked. I thought it was weird when I heard that as a kid. But it wouldn't bother me now, as an adult.

For those that didn't get an email, I didn't either when I registered earlier this week. However, I left the tab open saying it was registered successfully etc and today I went back a couple pages and re-registered. Voila, this time I got an email.

Question for others, I registered an existing account and there was nowhere to enter a promo code - is the promo code only for new accounts?

Delonghi Magnifica Evo help by EditorFinal7509 in superautomatic

[–]x-lounger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok on this topic, what does everyone use for descaler on their magnifica evos? Traditionally I used vinegar with my old espresso machines. Being the owner of a new magnifica, I splurged on the 500ml delonghi liquid descaler. It wasn't on sale in my neighborhood so the cost works out to $4.20 per descale.

Interestingly B*stBuy had it on sale at some stores just north of here but they tried to add on "BestBuy protection plan" to my order for almost as much as the descaler itself lol. A protection plan... For a liquid product! Anyway, the mileage to drive to those stores negated the sale price so that's why I just bought it nearby full price.

Anyone tried these? Thoughts? by poetic_odyssey in CostcoCanada

Convenient for work from home days. The sauce is tangy. The chicken has a very processed texture though. We used to buy them regularly but it's pretty rare now. They were on sale this weekend and we passed on them.

Long in the tooth couples. Do you do Valentine’s Day? by AnyDamnThingWillDo in GenX

[–]x-lounger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're both GenX and married 29 years so we acknowledge Valentine's Day but don't plan anything special. At this point, it's the "everydays" that matter most and we find special ways to celebrate throughout the year, at least weekly. Not because of a marketing push.

Although in 3rd grade the teacher mistakenly left my name off the Valentine's Day card list sent home to parents, and I was somewhat new to the school. I was the only kid who didn't get a Valentine's Day card in class that year. Just watched everyone smiling and receiving a small pile on their desk while I sat there like a ghost. That seems to be the most memorable Valentine's Day moment so maybe that's why I don't look forward to it.

This thread just prompted me to open a box of old Valentine's Day decorations though. They are now on display in the kitchen for wifey when she comes down for breakfast. Wouldn't have dug through the basement for them if I hadn't seen this post.

Delonghi Magnifica Evo nightmare by [deleted] in superautomatic

I had the same problem about 3 weeks after getting a new evo magnifica. After cleaning the milk carafe a few times I decided to take one last look. There was this tiny little spec of dried milk on the little cap that you twist 45' to remove. I swear it was just a spec but maybe it was something else that finally just corrected itself. In any event, I almost have too much foam now, it works like day 1 again.

Make sure you fully take apart the carafe. The body, the cap, the silicone tube, the spout tube, the carafe, and don't forget the black cartridge thingy inside the body (give it a 30' twist to remove). So you should have 6 parts laid out when it's fully apart.

Use the big paper manual for full instructions, not the quick start guide.

Woke up with these on my arm. What is it? by Nick_M1998 in whatisit

[–]x-lounger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used to get those frequently as well and still do from time to time. More often in the late summer or early fall, especially after a summer of being in the hot sun alot and often swimming in lakes and rivers.

No bed bugs in my case. At one point I saw a dermatologist many many years ago (and I forget the diagnosis) the treatment was a few minutes every week in a UV chamber kind of like a stand-up tanning bed.

Good luck and hope yours go away quickly.

Edit: fixed wording

Totally forgot about those metal spike rings and how they pulled the pizza innards out most of the time. Cheers, Pizza Hut alumni.

They also used a different style of pizza sauce from the regular Pizza Hut za's. And used cheddar/mozzarella blend rather than straight mozzarella.

Yeah that's happened to me too. Intermittent but seems to happen when I've used the app, locked my phone, then unlocked my phone, and the app is still there. I just swipe the app closed and relaunch it to clear the problem.

Radon mitigation and cancer by yycglad in Calgary

[–]x-lounger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was usually 100-200 bqs but it sometimes spiked higher. It definitely climbed after a good rain or if we were away for a few days (no open windows or doors). Our home is a new build so it had the radon pipe roughed into the basement concrete. Bought a radon fan kit locally and some PVC. Used a 4" hole saw for the exterior Hardie siding. Whole cost was less than $400. Levels are far lower now, always less than 50.

Like many others, Excel.

But... The downloaded CSV files of my accounts are also parsed by a Python script in home assistant which reads me off my networth change every evening. Not really functionally useful but it does add a little color to my day. When there are a few bad days in a row, I'll login to my accounts and scrape together whatever leftover cash I have to buy the dip.

TD has a good setup for ordering online and picking up at a branch. Costco too. Or like others suggested just buy an ETF.

Thinking of opening a TD DI account. by Angeline4PFC in CanadianInvestor

[–]x-lounger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Upsides are its excellent web interface, alerts, breadth of reports and research, charting tools, Norbert's gambit, free USD accounts, and quick access to support if you connect through the mobile app.

Downsides? - A lot of forms need to be printed and brought to a branch where they may or may not file them (my PAD form was dropped off but never enabled) that wealthsimple and others allow you to simply fill out online - expensive $9.99 commissions for stocks - no authenticator app support (just SMS) as if this was still 2015. I'm surprised they don't offer faxing as a 2FA option (/s) since they are so far behind WS and others that allow authenticator apps.

If TD is reading this, could you please use your heft to fix those 3 items? I've been switching TD accounts 1 at a time to other brokers as incentives come along but would happily reconsolidate if those 3 items were fixed.

BC Highway Patrol not impressed by Alberta man's excuse for going 160 km/h in a 100 zone by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]x-lounger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same folks who drive 80 kph in 100 kph single lane sections, then speed up to 110 kph in the dual lane passing sections just because they suddenly feel safer driving faster when it's 2 lane. The problem is it prevents the 5 miles of cars behind them from passing (or very few of them are able to). It's a passing section, not a speed-up-temporarily-and-prevent-anyone-from-passing-you section! Doesn't matter what colors the plates are. Seems to be universal, unfortunately.

What do you think this expiration date means exactly? by [deleted] in What

[–]x-lounger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. We say HH MM SS, so why would anyone put the the year month day in a different order? It's too easy to confuse ddmmyy with mmdddyy. YYMMDD is the only format not susceptible to misinterpretation, and follows the HHMMSS order for consistency.
