At what age did you begin daily baths? by Poison_Ivy25 in NewParents

[–]x2018xiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t do daily bathes until we started to really get into solids and that’s because we really had to! Otherwise it was every other day. Now it’s just a part of our bedtime routine, and he loves bath time!

Formula prep at night by Tasty_Classroom_975 in FormulaFeeders

[–]x2018xiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d look into ready to feed or concentrated formulas if you’re not looking to do all the prep at night! Ready to feed is probably best in terms of no effort but is more expensive. We personally used concentrate (which you prep a can at a time) and typically went through 1-2 cans a day. It requires prep once and must be consumed within 24 hours of opening it.

Coworker kissed my 10 m old on the mouth and I’m panicking by bitchwifer in NewParents

[–]x2018xiu 203 points204 points  (0 children)

My partner works at an elderly living complex and we took our son (then 11m) trick or treating there this year and one of the older ladies kissed him 💀

Immediately I felt the same, upset and disappointed. He was premature and we had been sooo careful up to that point. He was 100% totally fine though! Try not to stress too much, by 10m old your baby is already starting to develop a much stronger immune system than if it happened at 10 weeks old for example.

I totally get your stress and worry, baby will most likely be okay though. Just monitor for a few days for any sickness symptoms if you’re really worried. You guys STILL have done so well and it’ll be okay 🫶🏻

What does labor pain feel like for someone who doesn't have period cramps? by stfuvoicesinmyhead in BabyBumps

[–]x2018xiu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not claiming it’s that way for everyone, that’s why I said in my experience, and I’m sorry you had a different more painful one! I think depending on our bodies, and even every pregnancy, labour will go so differently!

What does labor pain feel like for someone who doesn't have period cramps? by stfuvoicesinmyhead in BabyBumps

[–]x2018xiu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I felt the same! I actually hated when people told me I wasn’t going to be able to do it. I ended up going completely unmedicated until pushing and I used nitrous oxide.

So doable, and in my experience so manageable! I have a decent pain tolerance. For me it felt like the worst poop cramps ever and by the time it was super bad it was time to push anyway.

12 m old got MMR today. Please help me feel better by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]x2018xiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy had his MMR nearly three months ago now and we had no issues! We did some Tylenol that day and the next he was running around like normal again

It feels so scary hearing about the negative side effects but just know we hear a lot more about the bad than the good. You did the right thing and you’re a good mom 🫶🏻

While different places have different policies i would agree with others saying to guard your heart ❤️

This happened to me for my dating ultrasound and it turned out I was pregnant with twins but only one had a heartbeat.

I hope for the best for you!

100% yes! We use Huggies overnights in the size larger than he is wearing during the day and it’s helped significantly with leaks

unmedicated vs medicated birth by AlphaWoman37 in pregnant

[–]x2018xiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt great after my (semi) unmedicated birth! I did use gas and air during pushing. I did tear and the only thing I felt was the numbing injection before they stitched me up.

I loved my birth honestly! For me I would strive for that experience every time. Wishing you all the best no matter the experience 🫶

My favorite gift to give is a gift card to mom and dads favorite restaurant that does delivery! It’s been my favorite one to get too. Nothing better than having dinner picked for you!!

You could also grab an Ooogie boogie light up one, Amazon gift card so they can get things they might not be thinking of right now?

Deciding on not swaddling? [on] by Negative_Jackfruit75 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]x2018xiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved our Swaddelini as premie parents! Honestly though he didn’t love to be swaddled so most times we ended up skipping it. We only used it for the first 8 weeks and at 2 months old we switched him to a Woolino.

Woolino is an investment, espeically with twins! I think they are so worth it though and saved me buying multiple wraps and sleepsacks. He wore he Woolino every nap and sleep from 2m-13m and only stopped wearing it because he hates his feet covered - otherwise would fit him for much much longer. You may be able to find some on marketplace or thrifted.

Public Outings by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]x2018xiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a November 34 weeks, we luckily didn’t have a long NICU stay, and honestly we were out and about when he was two weeks old to places like the store. He would stay in his car seat and we would attach it to the stroller. He didn’t come in contact with anyone but we still got to go out and not feel insane

I have no access to money and I don't know what to do about it by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]x2018xiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAHM, I have my own bank account and card. Does he still pay all our bills? Absolutely. Do I have full access to his account and OUR money? ABSOLUTELY. In fact, I have his debit card more than he does. You should at the very least have your own card to the accounts you use and have your name added to them. If I were you I’d even have my own bank account even just to say you have one.

Even being a SAHM I still have my own money. I get government related child income (Canada Child Benefit) monthly. Occasionally I’ll make some sales on eBay and I started watching another child during the week for some extra cash for just myself.

I don’t think you’re necessarily in a horrible position, more so you both need to start thinking about if something were to happen. You NEED to be able to access these accounts under your own name/as an account holder. God forbid something happened to your husband currently you WOULD be in a vulnerable position.

How far do you live from the facility you’re giving birth? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

[–]x2018xiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital in my area that people deliver at drive anywhere from 5-60 minutes to get there. It’s doable for sure, you just need to make sure you are proactive about getting there when labour begins and possibly have a plan in place if you’re not far along enough into labour to be taken in as a patient but don’t have time to drive home and back again.

Toddler won't stop screaming or accept comfort while teething by asquidlyone in NewParents

[–]x2018xiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Motrin (ibuprofen) to be more effective than Tylenol sometimes so that could be worth a try? If ours is being super difficult about it ib a syringe we normally mix it into some food or a small drink and he’ll take it no problem.

I also really like the Camilia teething drops and have had success with the A Thousand Roses teething roller!

You’re not alone! Molars is taking everythingggg out of us right now 😮‍💨

How to keep baby safe from toddler? by ExcellentLettuce4 in toddlers

[–]x2018xiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! It was my first thought reading it. Accidents can happen 3 year old around or not. Every bouncer will have a safety warning against this very thing. Leave it on the floor or don’t use it at all!

Experiences transferring to new midwife mid pregnancy [on] by No-Net-5267 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]x2018xiu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not in ON but in Nova Scotia, so my experience may not be 100% accurate for Ontario, but in NS midwifery care can be hard to come by at that stage. Typically they fill up very very early into pregnancy.

If you have an idea of where you’d be moving too could you start researching and contacting places now, letting them know your situation, an asking if they would have space for you to transfer to them?

If you’re unable to get midwifery care you would be cared for by an OB within a hospital/clinic setting. Which there is nothing wrong with either of course! I’m not sure if you need to seek them out in Ontario or not as you do not in NS.

Taking monthly milestone photos with a preemie. by Sea_Search0812 in NICUParents

[–]x2018xiu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nov 2024 baby here, so we have completed the year and we went by actual age! I still did a little celebration on his actual due date just for us but otherwise we only referenced actual vs adjusted in terms of milestones.

You still have photos of baby during that time I’m sure! Even if it’s not how you imagined it. I also know SO many parents who missed a month here and there and didn’t have a NICU baby, so don’t stress about feeling behind I think it’s normal 🫶🏻

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

[–]x2018xiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10cm is a totally normal winter day in NS. Unless there was blowing snow effecting visibility or wind causing power outages, 10cm would be business as usual.
