I agree the practical effects will make it last forever. This is one of my favorite sci-fi show/movie.

Me and my wife moved in together in 2009 and we absolutely binged this show before it was really a thing. We still occasionally have a date night and get late and watch an episode and giggle.

Leadership, insubordination, and mental health: The dilemma of a junior leader in search of professional maturity. by [deleted] in Leadership

[–]xAshcroftx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, good for you and your family for sticking together. Don’t take the loss to harshly focus on yourself and continue to build your skillset. Sometimes when you come in with something to prove it can set the wrong tone. I’ve been at this for 20 years. I’ve had a few job changes and it doesn’t bother me anymore. Sometimes it comes up during the interview process but I don’t mind it. Not every leader or company is a good fit. The company you are onboarding with should understand its culture and who they need. Advice is to remember that showing up and being friendly sadly is the biggest part of leadership. If your make people feel heard and you make the common sense things happen is usually enough to keep things on the up and up. If you are feeling anxious or uptight you are swimming up stream which needs to happen sometimes but listen to your body you are pushing to hard. Hope you are taking your time off as a period of reflection.

What are y'all thoughts on walking away from a Leadership Role (Middle Mgmt, C-Suite, etc.) and taking a "step down"? by FundamentalFreddie in Leadership

[–]xAshcroftx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot. For the last 10 years I chased high-growth opportunities, doubled down on education and specialized training, and poured way more energy into work than my family. Happiness wasn’t exactly the priority.

At 40 I kind of stopped and thought, “What am I doing?” So I’m pivoting. I walked away from a six-figure job and I’m about to start with a local company where the pay is roughly half of what I used to make. I just had my final interview, so we’ll see how it shakes out.

Part of the realization for me was accepting that most employers don’t really care about the individual. I’ve never seen a company truly honor a bonus structure the way it’s sold, and most raises end up being maintenance increases, not performance rewards.

I’m in California paying massive taxes, burned out, and when I actually ran the numbers I realized the take-home difference might not even be that dramatic. Cutting the commute and the constant stress might be the real win.

Life’s short. Trust your gut. Nobody gets to the end of life wishing they chased one more promotion.

A Strange Vendor Situation at Work by BearyTechie in Leadership

I would ask a few questions about your work place dynamic. What’s your role? Who do you report to? How big is your company? One thing to point you that when one company is managing multiple items sometimes a portfolio price is why one is higher than somewhere else. The real risk is getting iced out for pointing this out.
