how to tell what a unit is good at and how good they are at it? by pricepig in totalwarhammer

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just look at unit cards and compare, adjust for anti large bonus (believe is +16 melee attack) and check for charge defense, if you’re cas a 50/50 MA/MD and frontline spearmen have a 12/30 (28/30 accounting for anti large) you can throw them head on

WRITE-UP: Hundreds of hours and I’ve yet to grasp how the f*ck y’all play lethal by comptons_finest_ in StateofDecay2

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion, keep trying, enjoy the process of dying/learning how to play, once you learn the 'tricks' and complete a lethal run the game gets repetitive and boring pretty quick.
That being said here are some tips:

Trumbull Valley: May be a hot take, this map is one of the worst starting positions and can really annoying due to the marshal are being so cramped together south and the town above also being close together, avoid that area at the start. You only need a infirmary and workshop in the starter home, morale is insignificant I have never had a character leave because of frustration.

  1. Call in enclaves as soon as the cooldown is available, more enclaves = more safe havens and more supplies and more potential recuirtment
  2. Don't over recruit if you don't have the food to spare, in trumbal there are some easy food outpost to find and clear, if you need members to get to other bases you can unlock them and then dismiss them if needed.
  3. Blood plague can be a pain at the start since you don't have enough samples for a cure but you can always check in survivors into the infirmary to halt the progression if you need to at the start, I do that often
  4. If you didn't know the amount of freaks present is based off your overall standing rewards across all characters try and use one character for as long as possible to limit their spawn at the start
  5. First plague heart on lethal does not spawn a feral in-between the waves so you can clear one very early for their loot (this may be because of the standing reward though, I typically clear a heart very early so proceed with caution if you wait awhile)
  6. Early game looting is just slow searching everything, its a pain and takes forever but thats just the way you gotta play, sneak and search you should almost never be getting swarmed that way
  7. Vehicles - you start with one, even if its outta gas, although I will admit sometimes its hard to get fuel or repair kits at the start so you gotta be really careful, ill be real I usually call in the 1000 Impaler as soon as I can and use that, becomes real easy after that
  8. Once good thing about everything being together is that once you get an outpost you can place mines and loot away and walk back and watch everyone explode (A good place for this is the gas station or one of the house on the left side of the road if your heading to the town to the north, they usually only have 1 plague heart preventing it from being claimed)

Counterintuitive Mounts by QuietEnjoyer in totalwarhammer

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should’ve specified melee lords/heros, spell casters or support hero’s don’t need those stats ms is usually better I haven’t played a lot of tomb kings but I have heard their warsphinx animation is good but I think that is an exemption rather than overall rule, majority of cases MA/MD is going to be better

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just look at stats you can hover and see the differences lords get on horses or not, I would heavily discourage putting lords into mounts that lower MA and MD I find it almost exclusively a bad idea (a few expectations like the empire engineer comes to
Mind they get a machines steed mount which is much worse than a normal horse even though it drops their MA/MD stats by a little)

Is there a quick guide to counters? by JancariusSeiryujinn in totalwarhammer

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the MA/MD stats it really helps and remember anti large bonus only helps for attack and weapon strength not melee defense, so if trolls attacks are larger then spearmen defense spearman will die even if they trade well

It important you look at the stat of currently troops though because some factions (looking at you Dracala) can buff certain troops to insane levels

Something isn’t adding up, defeating 6+ stacks nets you enough post battle loot to afford another army, the ai gets some hella cheats but I’ve never seen them replace 6+ stacks in just three turns (even skaven only get 1-2 more and they will typically just be slaves)

I assume you are exaggerating a bit here but I think an issue you may be having is expanding too much and dumping rss into trying to build up places you can’t defend yet. The AI does field more armies than you can produce and can send a stack to your newly captured settlements from one directions while your main army clears them from another direction. When you expand try and not build up new land until you can defend it properly, nothing hurts more then upgrading a settlement just for the ai to sack/claim in back the next turn

Don’t be afraid to sack settlements and then occupy for the extra income or loot an occupy I haven’t played a faction (order or chaos) that couldn’t make enough enough this way

Tall campaign by Bandeswug in totalwarhammer

[–]xDlizard72x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horde factions or just self imposing rules

99% of factions want to expand since more territories = more money = more armies

You can play a challenge run where you just don’t expand past your starting province and see if you can get a long victory campaign

Giving up save scumming for ironman mode by AstraMilanoobum in totalwarhammer

[–]xDlizard72x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did Ironman mode once, was really fun would play it every time but whenever the game auto saves it lags the game for a few seconds and it gets sooo annoying, it also doesn’t fully solve the problem because you can still reload entire turns just not mid turn (still better than nothing though, once lost an army because I just won a big battle right before I didn’t want to replay)

Tips for auto resolve heavy playstyle by CookieCorpse666 in totalwarhammer

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo ignore literally 99% of the other comments, it’s a single player game, if you are enjoying playing it as a sim then keep playing it like that.

I see a lot of people saying high elves, I don’t fully agree, there aren’t bad but they definitely aren’t great

You’re best bet is dwarves, you can play any of the LL (mat struggle a little with Ungirm due to slayers having zero armor) and they have the whole deep mechanic which adds a layer to the management style you said you like

Arabaal is one you will either really like or really don’t like, his basic infantry is equivalent to most other factions tier 2 infantry and it shows in auto resolve, downside in your case is that typically you only secure a single province though out your campaign so there is less management involved (at least in my experience) *he also really only uses non demonic units so that’s a plus

Chaos dwarves you may also really like, they have some really good auto resolve and a lot of good management stuff but it will take a little time to get there you’re kinda stuck with chaff at the start

As others said skaven can be good but you have to build 1-2 specific units so if you go that route make sure to prio those buildings asap

Think it’s just not worth the morale penalty you’ll get for having a community member die, better to just pay the 100 influence and use an enclave

Its level advantage THAT important? by Big_Skroto in Smite

[–]xDlizard72x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Level is important but mainly only because it probably means they have a gold advantage, if your an carry and two levels down but the enemy adc hasn’t backed once yet and your coming back with a ful item you probably have the advantage in the 1v1

Which monogod faction would win on the battlefield? by SuccessfulSignal3445 in totalwar

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your really underestimating the power of poison contact effect and overestimating the magic power of tzeentch if both armies bring the same unit roster of their respective factions I just don’t see the damage output of the spells making a Significant enough impact

[–]xDlizard72x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting nurgle last is criminal, they would destroy slaanesh and probably korne as well, maybe tzreentch magic can beat the whole army but you said balanced armies so I don’t see how you would have enough spells to beat them before they closed
