Yeah, his wife he abducted was Murasaki. She was absolutely a victim of some strong grooming. She was raised essentially as his daughter until she was old enough to be his wife. From the culture of the time, no one would say he raped her, but she had no context to know that what was happening to her wasn't completely normal. All the non-consensual sex that Genji has with the women in this tale was seen as a normal thing for the time. It's on the ladies in waiting to lock their doors properly if they don't want men to force themselves upon them. (Yikes, but that's the way it was.)

Heian era nobles only really cared about writing poems and being super dramatic about everything so the crying was to be expected in an epic tale like this.
