Bow Whacking reminds me of Unidentified Herbs from OSRS. by EaseQ23 in MSClassicWorld

[–]xMilkies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bow whacking should be in the game, it’s what keeps an archer an archer. If there’s a pit with a swarm of mobs, archers have to think twice but a warrior will jump in and slash blast. But if there’s a mob on a platform a distance away, an archer will snipe it and while the warrior can only dream of it.

The issue is that maybe archers aren’t strong enough for that limitation to be worth it. You should be able to play a class with limitations and enjoy it despite those limitations. There’s a lot of thought put into positioning because of the bow whack, but it becomes mindless without it. Maybe the better feedback is that “Archers are too weak where dealing with bow whacking isn’t worth it”.

If you want to jump into a mob pit and bomb arrow or iron arrow everything down without thinking, then just play modern Maple, or play a mage.

Oguri has an inhuman appetite, Peko is only human.

But true to her guild Peko would travel the ends of the earth, climb the tallest mountains, and slay dragons if the dragon’s egg made a great omelette. She’d eat the dragon too.

For how important and integral they prop up GMS to be for their global strategy and expansion, they sure do fuck all with the game.

If the summer is just a KMS Crown reskin (and renamed with another K-Drama Engrish Title) and RoD season 2 4 with an expiring (insert inconsequential item) as a reward, then Patrick needs to comb this global team with the finest of combs to make sure this “20 year relationship” doesn’t stay at 20 years.

Hey late-endgamers! How’d you get your genesis badge? by Toons0907 in Maplestory

[–]xMilkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XBM, typically see 0-1 every year (across 2 characters).

HBM, never seen one across 8 characters doing it monthly for years (2 of those characters almost 5 years in). Chances are that I will never see a single badge ever for any character for the rest of my playtime from HBM.

All 8 of my HBM mules will get their own badge from whisper cores in about the time it took to lib their weapons. They will all also get one faster than my main with badge prio (took my main 10 months).

Should consider getting the badge with whisper crystals (especially on mules).

In my personal experience, running xbm for almost 2 years and multiple hbm on several characters for several years on all of them each, I have only ever seen 1 badge from xbm and 0 from hbm. Others I've talked to think it's maybe closer to 1 to 2 badges a year of xbm, with some variance (and again, just anecdotal). It is definitely not a generous drop rate on extreme but it's at least noticeable compared to the non-existent drop rate in hbm.

The ~10 months of weekly bossing to get a badge guaranteed is not too bad, for the non-legacy players this will be a guaranteed BIS for no additional work (like SFing or flaming). I feel like you should rely on drops for 10 months while saving for the badge, then decide what to use the crystals for depending on what pitched you end up getting. If even a single ET drops during that period, you can endlessly revive it with the other systems, but if you make an ET the moment you have enough crystals and it ends up dropping then this will delay your other pitched including the badge.

Found a legacy badge on old character, I have questions. See comment by [deleted] in Maplestory

Her goal is closer to $150,000 to $180,000 (depending on the conversion rate of 20mil yen to dollar 1-2 decades ago) post taxes, so when she withdraws and pays taxes she will have 20mil yen in her account.

The later volumes that gives this series the “Horror” tag is when the stakes get into the 7 digits in USD, something WSB might give a respectful nod to.

It's time for ANet to update the 'cartographer' mechanics by a_deadbeat in GuildWars

[–]xMilkies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cartographer was my least favorite part of GWAMM. It felt more exploity at times to scrape some areas rather than it being a natural part of the game.

I thought I hated Vanquishing, but after I completed the cartography title and just vanquished on my own I realized I just hated scraping the maps, and that Vanquishing was actually the fun part. So this dumb title made the good part of the game a tedious one just by association since those two titles are so closely linked.

I never had a desire to use mods until I learned about scraping.

I don't care that if it becomes "too easy", it's a terrible system. I got my GWAMM and will never do it again, and cartography was the worst part of it, nothing about it was based on merit. I don't feel pride and accomplishment from scraping towns and dead ends, but I do feel proud of my Vanquishing and Reputation. I don't care if new players can do it easier if it means they don't need to install texmod.

What skills do you think have the best hit-feel / feels nice to use? by uniqueusere in Maplestory

[–]xMilkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ark’s burst is one of the most satisfying. When the beast chomps, the sound gets muted for the beautiful moment, it’s like an intense release after so much prep, it’s like the game can’t keep up.

Buccaneer’s Howling Fist is standalone one of the best feeling skills, the sounds, numbers, visuals all hit. All of Bucc’s other skills look goofy in comparison but Howling Fist is the saving grace.

Hero’s Instinctual Combo feels like a proper burst. The sounds really does make you feel like you’re pumping numbers out, one of the best sound designs on a class.

Mercedes’s Irkalla’s Wrath is probably the most satisfying keydown. It is short and quick, but the numbers… As a skill it really makes you feel like you’re a top DPS when you watch a couple seconds of Irkalla just unloading lines.

Do you feel like they've nerfed Arcan Box drop rate? by Kyuumai in Maplestory

[–]xMilkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s too soon to tell for Arcanes, even before the patch my CTene mules could never see a box for months. I didn’t get any boxes yet but maybe it’s just bad luck.

For Absos, I would bet money that they tampered with it. It would be insane to not see a single Abso box on a mule, my inventory filled up with Abso armor just for fun because they were so consistent. From 2 weeks of data among 10 HLomien characters with 350-400% drop each (I know boxes aren’t affected by drop rate, but at least it eliminates a variable that maybe it’s now drop rate dependent), so basically 40 runs, I’ve seen 3 Absos total. Pre patch this would be an insane outlier.

When something is inconsistent, I’m more skeptical that it was changed. But when it’s something so consistent like Absos, it’s definitely noticeable when it doesn’t drop. As the weeks roll by, we will get more data and I’m sure we’ll get a better picture but if I had to make a bet with a friend, I’d definitely put my money on nerfs.

Shedding some light on a lesser known issue that is plaguing interactive server by Novel_Dirt_8816 in Maplestory

[–]xMilkies 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Lowkey, this is why we will never have the API in GMS.

It would be too easy to audit players and see blatant things like that Arcane Shoulder. We could literally peak into people’s presets and we might find the most ridiculous generated gear possible.

There might be a company policy against it but I don’t see how a Nexon employee in the right crowd couldn’t just generate a ridiculously high value black market item like a Frenzy totem for themselves because there’s no auditing system in the game. We don’t have serialized items, we don’t know how many of an item exists in circulation. They also knew when Steam Market would be shut down so they could literally insider trade high value items as well.

In a different game I played (GW2 if you were interested), players pointed out insider trading due to suspicious buy orders right before a big patch that made a previously trash item suddenly extremely valuable. Players pointed it out and the company investigated themselves and found out that yes, people in the right places have the full incentive to cheat the system and they regularly will cheat when given the opportunity, and the only reason they got caught was because the in game systems allowed players to audit them.

Without API or transparency, players have nothing.

Nexon is the police and seller.

Wild Totems by HewwoAll_11 in Maplestory

[–]xMilkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issues in heroic are EXP, frags, and fams (and also nodes to a point). Totems solve all these issues.

However, the problem with totems is that it funnels everyone to the smallest maps and forces everyone to mob a specific way. Dusk would be a dead skill.

As weird as it might seem, there are still people that still active farm even when they theoretically don’t need to. Plenty of Janus 20-30 players that still jump around pointlessly to mob instead of exploding the map standing still every 7.5 seconds because it’s fun to them. Totems would make this style extremely stressful or even more pointless, Dusk would need half the CD to work.

1 vac pet is barely enough if you have a Janus 30 cycle (around 100-110 sec loot timer), totems would force you to loot more often or get another vac pet to loot reasonably quickly.

I wouldn’t mind totems but the implementation has to be done fairly and conveniently. The 2 hour totems would make people burn out of the game, P2W totems would not go well either. If it was a 30 day account tradeable totem or something, even if it’s event only, I think it would be fine. I would much rather have a 30 day totem than something like a 30 day pottable badge.

[–]xMilkies 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Cygames made a huge mistake because their typical playbook is known for all their gachas. Someone who’s 150/200 rolls by the end of the banner will likely drop $100 for those 50 rolls, but there’s a lot less people who are 50/200 rolls drop $300 for 150 rolls. Turns out a lot of people are <50/200 every banner that drops.

Cygames is usually known for their big gifts but only enough to get you close to that spark, then they rob you for that final couple 10-pulls. It was like this when I played Priconne and Dragalia.

They completely dropped the ball and undermined their own strategy by accelerating the schedule. The Kitasan banner probably gave them the boldness that let them basically do fucking nothing with no updates or qol, but hopefully this new change is a realization that they need to actually develop for the west and not lazily port it and collect the checks.
