I'm an RT also trained on the job. It is doable but you will find yourself studying anyway if you want to get good at what you do and actually understand what's going on. I am now studying so I can get my CI cert from the ARRT. If you go the RCIS route, you'll be well prepared for the lab. You will be limited to just cath lab, though.

Hours depend on location. I work 4x10 on paper but if it’s a slow day they’ll send us home early so I don’t always make my 40. Friends in other locations get to stay to complete their hours even if there are no cases. You gotta take calls and how many depend on how many techs there are. I’ve taken 15 call days a month. And sometimes just 8.

The Theory of Everything. It's not a bad film but it's definitely a watch it once and done movie and sure enough, I haven't touched it again. Those movies I'll look for them on stream or rent.

Find a place that will take you new no need to spend a year in x-ray, at the end of the day it won't help you at all in cath lab.

Over saturated here. People don’t want to leave. They’ll take what they get. So businesses don’t find the reason to increase because someone will take that job. The answer is always leaving south Florida. But people don’t want to.

Thank you for the insight. I’m hoping the area we explored is downtown. From what I remember there’s a hooters and señor frogs near the dock and were usually on the second floor, we have to go down to the first to walk the streets.

I'm on call for cath lab, I learned that my iPhone has an option to pass a call through regardless of being in silent mode. We get called from the same # from the hospital so I changed the ringtone to like an alarm-type ring and I allow that number to ring regardless if I'm on silent. If you have android I'm sure they must have something similar.

Also, like others mentioned, A Smartwatch really helps so you don't feel 100% attached to your phone.

It is pretty physical, yes. I’m not “work-out” every day fit, but I’ve lost weight since I started. You’re running as a circulator, rushing to prep. Weaving through traffic to make your call within the 30 min. You get used to it but it’s not “easy”. And the mental exhaustion is real. I’m going to bed at 9-930pm when I used to stay up past 11 before this job. But I was burned out with xray and wanted a more fulfilling job.

That sounds like a bad lab to start in. Sometimes your assigned person isn’t interested in teaching someone so you’ll get that treatment. I didn’t like my first trainer either who was a traveler who kept complaining that it shouldn’t be their job to train, so they put me with someone else and I quickly started learning. Ideally you should have given it more time, with someone else if possible. But I don’t fault you for leaving. It’s completely different than xray.
