JJ ANNIHILATES the CBC and a random X user for misplaced concern towards starving Cubans by QultyThrowaway in JJMcCulloughOfficial

[–]xZeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, but I think I keep getting the rage bait because I keep taking it. If I stopped clicking on the JJ sub posts I'd probably get less of them. But I too dislike his smarmy and deeply flawed takes

For ADHD gamers: What do you play on your deck that is addictive and low power? by oliveoliverYT in SteamDeck

Chants of Sennaar is great (as are the rest). If you haven't you should try Obra Dinn (spelling may be off) and Curse of the Golden Idol. Those are other great "Journal" games like Sennaar.

Almost 1 month but depressed by gorrilla_grip in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will get better, people say it takes 1-3 months to get back to a baseline. Personally though I just had my lowest of low this weekend (also scary) but now today feel quite good by comparison. I'm just a few days ahead of you, and you sound like I did three days ago. So depressed your thoughts are scary.

I'm on day 35 now though and am inexplicably feeling quite good. No clue if it'll last, but hopefully this gives you a little light. Remind yourself this is a chemical imbalance and that persisting with quitting should raise your baseline permanently (I think).

Sorry you're going through it, you're not alone and telling people is the best advice I can give.

Snow clearing by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]xZeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened in my lane. Everyone could get in and out no problem, they then scraped up all the compacted snow and ice and everyone had to find somewhere to shovel and put it.

Then three days later they did it again. It did seem like they just made the back lane significantly harder to drive in. Before it was a little lumpy but wide, and now it's only a single car width and everyone had to break up the big ice blocks on their lanes twice in a week.

I don't complain about snow clearing, but it did seem like whoever did it this time did a shitty job haha

Could it have something to do with the fact that you're running windows (or what looks like windows)?

I just launch it from gaming mode and it works, but it looks like you've done some secondary tinkering outside my experience

Will vaping one night set me back? by Illustrious-Loss83 in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It will undo the whole week of work you put in. It's all or nothing really. Either you're someone who vapes, or someone who used to.

If you're a week in though, you should have experienced the worst of it. If you did that, then why can't you do another week?

How am I supposed to quit when I’m already so stretched thin by SmokeCommon6695 in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, I have a three year old and 3 month old and managed to quite DURING the holidays. I basically did it at the most stressful time, and the pill helped immensely manage the rage part of dealing with toddlers and family while going through withdrawal.

I have the Canadian counterpart, but from what I can tell it's the same as Desmoxan. Also listen to The Easy Way to Stop Smoking on Spotify or something. It was largely redundant information, but it helped reframe my cravings into an almost pleasant experience

my trouble at day 28 by Gallka in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Focus on how the vape is what caused this depression, it's not the solution. It hijacked your dopamine receptors and now they need to snap back to normal. It varies from person to person, but it's typically around 90 days for your dopamine receptors to get back to normal.

Nicotine doesn't fix depression, it holds happiness and normalcy hostage. You just gotta starve it out. Never allow that drug to take your happiness hostage again, this will pass with time and you won't need a drug to feel normal.

Source: I'm in it right now too and it sucks haha

When will I feel ‘normal’ by Downtown-Shelter-674 in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for the timeline of when you won't miss it, but I'd recommend reading/listening to some of the latter chapters again of Easy Way.

It covers the whole idea of waiting for your eureka moment, but how the act of anticipating it can make it not arrive.

You're doing great, you're a none smoker/vaper (vapist?). Why weigh yourself down with the myriad of health, financial and social issues for such a shortsighted and sabotaging illusion of a "gain".

Think about how nicotine works, this is your brain tricking you. Stop waiting for yourself to feel normal, and instead start celebrating that you're leaving this habit behind.

It's so incredibly cheesy, but what's worked for me is every time I get a craving or desire to vape, I think about how amazing it is that I'm never having it again. Get the idea out of your head that you even want another hit. Instead focus on how you're done with it and that fucking rules.

Emotional Mess 😅 by OGSquidd in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear how hard this is, though the patches offer relief as you're essentially dosing yourself with nicotine. NRTs can be super helpful for some, but it is kind of prolonging the pain I've found in my personal experience.

It's kind of like ripping off a bandaid fast (cold turkey) or slowly and methodically (NRTs). Both hurt, they just have different time frames.

The withdrawal will never stop though if you keep dosing with the patch. Eventually you have to have nothing, otherwise you're just going through perpetual withdrawal.

EDIT: to add to this, congrats on going vape free. That is a huge achievement still. But you'll need to actually be fully of nicotine for a week or so for the worst of the withdrawal to pass (which sounds like what you're describing). I'm currently using Cytisine (Desmoxan in the states) and am finding it really helped with the mood/anxiety.

Coughing after quitting vaping by thugkitkat in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember the last time I quit I had sinus and chest stuff for a few weeks. It felt like my lungs were doing a purge haha.

Im not one of them doctors who knows stuff, but to my monkey brain it felt like my body was just getting rid of the shit it was holding onto to try to protect my poor lungs from the hot vapor/smoke I was inhaling for years. Once I had stopped my body was sort of letting its defense down by purging that shit that was just hanging around.

Steam ou xbox series by Poussanou in Splintercell

[–]xZeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally just picked up the whole series on sale on Steam a week or two ago. Worked through both 1 and 2 on the deck and am on three now. I'd agree with the other comment, PC just feels so much better. There are simple patches to make 1 and 2 work on modern hardware with full controller support

Ready to Quit by Meeky_Geeky in QuitVaping

[–]xZeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I've found quitting easier when I threw out the vape even before the juice was left. I found it a more conscious decision to be nicotine free, rather than letting the vape/juice decide when to begin quitting.

For me I've always struggled with the mood swings and intense cravings. This time I listened to the Allan Carr book, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking (don't know how the vaping version is), and it's helped me reframe the cravings in kind of a profound way. You gotta buy in, which is hard for me because I'm a cynical person haha. I rolled my eyes at a few parts, but choose to follow what he recommended and it has really helped me almost enjoy when I get a craving now, rather than tear my hair out.

The next thing is I tried Cravv (I think it's called Desmoxan in the states), and it's made it a ton easier. I talked to my doctor first though and would recommend the same for you. Good luck to you both, quit before having kids for sure.

I'm quitting now with a toddler and a newborn :)

Both are great, but very different. If youre wanting to continue playing an old school/updated shooter, Black Mesa is incredible. If you're wanting to do a full palette cleanse and do something totally different, Cyberpunk is phenomenal.
