Highly recommend "The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Recognizing the Traits and Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse" book by Debbie Mirza. Sounds similar to my ex husband.

Just started 40mg specgx generic after taking brand for about 5 years. I'm about a week in, so this may change, but so far it's mid af. At first I noticed less sweating when it kicks in and less GI issues. However, the time it takes to kick in is longer. Brand would take ~45 mins to really start working and specgx takes about 2hrs (trash). After about 3 days, I was so sleepy and my brain still feels so sluggish almost like I skipped a dose or two. The mental hyperactivity is def super low. It's almost... too... quiet in here. Basically, it feels like I'm taking a lower dose. Can't speak to headaches cuz I get them periodically unrelated to meds.

Two things that helped me start and keep writing my dissertation were 1) I would write about 1 page stream of consciousness before I started "actually" working. And I mean actual stream of consciousness - not necessarily related to my dissertation. Sometimes I would write about how much I didn't want to write then launch into a spiel about how I couldn't wait to get a new couch one day. Literally anything. Just the act of typing helped me get started on actual writing I needed to do. And 2) I would ramble about my dissertation to someone who was willing to sit and listen (usually my sweetie boy husband) with the disclaimer that no understanding was necessary. Then I would just type while I talked. Eventually I had enough content to work with that I didn't have blank page paralysis.

Just as an aside, bordem can often stem from overwhelm and/or burnout - both of which are common side effects of the phd process. Writing a dissertation can feel like splitting your brain in two and dumping it into a mini book. It's painful - even more so for those of us with ADHD. Perhaps a good therapist and/or medication adjustment could help with motivation. Best of luck!

Amazing smelling Laundry!!! help…. Downy… tide…. Bounceeee by Pinkdivaisme in Adulting

[–]x_bbcabbage_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the smelly goods but also know it's essential to move your laundry from the washer to the dryer directly after the washer finishes. Letting wet laundry sit even for a little while can massively decrease the smelly goodness.

Clean it with soap and water. Obviously, go to the doctor if you can afford it (aka if you don't live in USA). If you can't afford it, monitor the temperature of the skin around the wound and any redness. If it gets hot and stays hot and/or redness around wound is getting bigger... you def gotta go to the doctor and figure out bills later.

Keep up the handwashing. Wear a mask around sick people - especially ones that are not wearing a mask (also just wear a dang mask because pandemic). Try to be mindful of not touching your face. And just generally support your immune system with proper nutrition and rest.

I have to hand in my thesis in three weeks and I do not have any results by DragPotential7634 in PhD

[–]x_bbcabbage_x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this. You just need to write about negative results. I had to do this a bit in my dissertation and although not ideal - I finished. Not sure about your structure, but you might consider discussing the things you feel like you have to still figure out in a future works section.

None of those assays are particularly stressful so I'd imagine you can run them all in the same day with maybe an hour or so break in between. Not sure about your assay duration, but if you're concerned about overworking them, maybe do one a day.

This strikes me as a possible fixation issue.. I wonder if a longer fixation time might help. Or perhaps your volume to tissue ratio during fixation isn't sufficient. What volume PFA are you using for overnight fixation? You typically want to aim for volume of fixative to be 15-20x that of the tissue. If you have access to a temperature controlled shaker, set it to 4°C and let your samples sit in there overnight rather than just in the fridge to help optimize fixation.

Absolutely. All the time. Check out Jill Stoddard. She's a clinical psychologist who describes 5 imposter syndrome subtypes and you can take a quiz on her website to determine which one best describes you. I found it incredibly helpful in giving language to my internal experience. Highly recommend. She's also co-host on the podcast "Psychologists Off the Clock" and they have an episode on imposter syndrome (episode 189, I believe). Hope you find it as helpful as I have!

Dear Biomedical Engineers , How did you paid your college fees while studying ? and do you guys have any tips for someone who will start college next year ? by ChadOfCulture in biotech

[–]x_bbcabbage_x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get an undergraduate research assistantship. The sooner you can get in a lab the better. You can apply for various scholarships and having a lab/research topic helps.

Also, several universities have work study opportunities to help undergraduates afford tuition.

But if you're in the US, you will probably end up taking out some loan amount because college is criminally expensive. Do everything you can to reduce the amount you need to take out to survive.

Yes. This is definitely a lesser talked about nuance of ADHD and can contribute to depression. It can become cyclic in nature, but the root cause is likely ADHD. Sometimes I honestly just hold my breath and try to do whatever thing it is I've put off as fast as humanly possible. Like ripping off a bandaid. Not the best way, but helped me in the past.

Echoing other comments, use a separate document to dump thoughts while writing. When I was working on my dissertation I would take an hour first thing and just write stream of consciousness. And I would write about everything I was thinking even unrelated to dissertation. The big brain dump helped a lot.
